Welcome Governor Marley! W e are honored to welcome Governor
Arley Marley III to our clubthis week. The Governor will meet with
Dr. Susan Klear and her Board prior to the regular meeting and then
address the entire club at regular meeting. Itis expected that
Governor Marley willpresent pins to members who havepledged their
contributions to TheRotary Foundation.
Dr. Sue received a note from her friend, Sandra, who grew up in
Joplin, Mo . She had planned a trip to Joplin to see relatives, but
a cousin s knee surgerypushed plans forward by several weeks and
she missed staying in the hotel thatwas leveled on the day she was
to be there. When she went on her previouslyplanned trip to see
relatives in MO and OK and sent me the email that is below.
After seeing a picture in Time Magazine of Joplin and reworksin
the background from July 4 th , I had to look into what the Rotary
Clubsare doing and how they are coping. I took excerpts from her
email tome dated 6/28/2011: Well, It has been a long two days! I am
staying in
Miami, OK, because there are no hotel rooms available in
Joplin.
Miamiis about a half hour up the road and across the border. I
guess I need totalk just a bit about the "path of destruction" but
I really can't! Thereare really no words to describe it! . . .
# I came in from the south following Main Street; I usually come
inanother way but I was afraid that way might have been blocked.
Therehad just been a thunder shower and things were damp.
Everythinglooked the same. There was a block, perhaps two, where
things lookeda little odd, and then there was nothing in tact! That
went on I guess forabout a mile as I bisected the path of the
tornado.
