Minutes of August Meeting Minutes of Meeting Winnipesauke Chapter 2529 Meeting August, 14th 2011

Director: Rick Bassett called the meeting to order at 9:10 am with the pledge of allegiance. Rick advised that John

(Jack) Carey’s son died from cancer back in June and now Jack has 3 aneurisms and just came out of ICU this past

Wednesday. He is at Tufts Medical Center 800 Washington St Room 4034 Boston MA if you would like to send

him a card. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts & prayers. New members & Guests; Sal Pinto from

Alexandria was present.

Secretary’s report: Motion to accept the minutes as written in last month’s newsletter. There were some problems

with downloading & printing the newsletter last month. If you post comments on the website it will go to Rick or

Bob.

Membership coordinator: Fran processed 10 renewals and 3 new memberships during the period following the

last chapter meeting. We are currently at 201 members. At the end of August the May non-renewals will be re-

moved. He welcomed new members; Kelly Bolger, Gregorio Batista & Chuck Hale. Also he now has the rockers

for any new members who had not received them. If you are at the meeting come see him or he will mail them to

you.

Treasurer’s report: Sab read the report and answered questions about our expenses.

Old Business: Rick advised that we purchased 2 new chapter flags that actually say chapter on them not just chap.

We had to change our charter to change the spelling. It was a lot of paperwork but Judy worked her magic to get

the paperwork pushed through and we will be sending one flag to the Florida chapter. Bob advised that the Pitts-

burg trip was a success and fun was had by all. The ride up was very hot but when you jumped in the lake not only

did it cool you off but it was so cold that it took your breath away.

Merchandise: Sue advised that the new patches are in and she thanked Janet & Judy for setting up for her as she

was late. All merchandise is on sale today. She also advised that the chapter lap top that she uses for the newsletter

is on its last legs. She cleaned up everything she could and it is still running very slowly and sputtering along. It is

taking her a long time to get the newsletter done. A motion was made and accepted to get prices from a couple of

places to replace the lap top and software she needs for the newsletter after the next meeting. It is too old to spend

money having someone look at it; we may delete everything from the hard drive and donate it to a local school.

New Business: Rick advised that Laconia Harley Davidson has 2 rides coming up, the Police & EMS ride is on

8/20/11 and they are asking for experienced road captains to do a curvy notches ride on 8/27/11. Rick will be out

of town so he is unavailable to do the ride. Judy is looking into doing a wine tasting and lunch for a future activity.

We would rent a bus and she needs to know if there are enough members interested to fill the bus. The ride today

after the meeting will leave at 10:15 and will be to Bentley’s in ME for lunch and will return by 2:00.

We discussed the Harvest Supper and it was decided that we will get prices from Harts and the Lobster Pound and

decide where and when to have it at the next meeting. The Gaudette’s will do a cookout at their house after the

next chapter meeting on September 11th. Skip advised the he checked with VT motor vehicle Dept and they now

only require that your helmet be DOT approved, the reflective sticker requirement has been repealed.

Dealer News: Judy advised that the general merchandise department asked her to take a vote to see if there is any

interest in heated boots. Also H.O.G. members have been invited to stop at the Laconia fire department on Main

St on Saturday 9/3/11 from 2-3:00 pm to greet Woody & Terri from Wisconsin who are doing a 17 state ride to

honor rescue workers who lost their lives on 9/11. They will stop at the Pentagon, Ground Zero and Shanksville

PA, as well as visiting 19 local fire stations along the route. She also advised that 2 members of LHD staff were

involved in motorcycle accidents. Tim McDonald from the rental dept was rear ended and has a cracked vertebrate

and Ethan from sales also had a bad accident. They have a lot or road rash but are both expected to be okay.

Winnipesauke Chapter 2529 Meeting August, 14th 2011

NH/VT Rally: The rally starts on Thursday The Seacoast chapter will be riding to Manchester around 10:00 and

the Concord, Laconia & Conway chapters can meet them in Manchester and ride to Lebanon with them. The

numbers are very low for the rally. There will be 2 covered bridge rides and a tethered hot air balloon ride. Rick &

Sab will attend the meeting on Sunday and will use our votes for Loon NH for the rally in 2012. They are thinking

of doing another 5 state rally in Sturbridge MA for 2013.

Being no further business a motion was made an accepted to adjourn at 10:00 am Kathy Azotea

FROM THE CAPTAINS SEAT

Wow August is almost over.

Time to get your pictures in to me for the Harvest Supper.

2012 NH VT Rally will be at Loon Mountain. August 17,18,19th 2012.

More news to follow in the upcoming months.

September meeting is on the 11th followed by a short ride ending at Bob and Sue’s for a cookout.

Laconia Harley Davidson sponsored H.O.G. Lead ride on August 27th still needs 3 road captains

I will be out of town that weekend. It is advertised as an experienced rider event “Notches Ride”

Please give me a call so that I can let the dealership know who will be helping with this event.

Jack Carey update: Jack is now in the Physical Therapy rehabilitation facility.

Please check out the new website Winnihog2529.com and post a comment to let me know that members

are able to easily use this webpage.

Judi has more information on the winery visit.

The 2012 NH VT rally proposal meeting was attended by all NH and VT chapters for the first time ever.

I met all the Directors of the chapters and while talking with Concord NH group they challenged us to

downhill tubing at Gunstock! Which I found very interesting whereas we already schedule that activity

each winter. So we should look at the numbers and see if we can do a chapter challenge. The Concord

Chapter also does bowling and Pool challenges during the winter months and have officially challenged

the Winni HOG chapter to participate. Usually Manchester, Nashua and Seacoast attend.

On the Sunday’s when there is no official HOG Ride. Members will meet at Laconia Harley at 9:00 AM and

leave by 9:30 on a ride of their choice.

See you on the road and September 11th

2529 MEMBERS RIDE TO MAINE

Skip and Bette Fields hosted a HOG ride on July 31. Although

the turnout was small (4) bikes) kickstands went up at 9:30 and

we headed north through Franconia Notch over to Bethel, ME

for a yummy lunch at Rooster Roadhouse. We got to know new

member, Keith from Laconia-always nice to meet new mem-

bers. After lunch break, back on the road over some quiet

routes to Evans Notch and Fryburg, ME. Fields and Dunlaps continued on to Province Lake and

Johnsons for ice cream. Back to Weirs by 7pm. Weather was wonderful, route relaxing and the

best part having a great time with HOG members. Thanks to Skip and Bette taking the time and

effort for a perfect day.

In the Wind…

It’s great to see that members are starting to use the HOG bulle-

tin board on the new website. The new website is coming along

and thanks to Rick for all his work on it. It is always great to of-

fer members options for weekend rides—some long some

shorter but the good thing is that we can ride and share time to-

gether.

This newsletter has many ride photos and articles from several

sources and I remind all of you that the newsletter and the web-

site is for all chapter members to use, include your ride or upcoming event for everyone to share

ride experiences and chapter news and information with each other. Don’t forget to forward your

ride pics to Terri B. so she can include them on the bulletin board-which is looking great by the

way.

The last meeting we had news that bike accidents had taken a toll on several sister chapter mem-

bers. We are glad to hear they are coming along but it is a harsh reminder just how quickly things

can go wrong on a ride. It does not matter how long you have been riding or how much experi-

ence one has, bad situations come up very quickly and you always need to be on your guard. It is

never a bad time to take a refresher course on safety and skill and I find myself constantly review-

ing even the most basic tools of safe riding. I hope you will too.

We have some great fall riding ahead, and I hope its safe and fun for all of our chapter and sister

chapter members. Maybe I will have to go pay ‘Hoss’ a visit this winter. He did offer after all and I

am thinking this good-will sharing of chapters visits is a great idea. See you in the spring Suzi!

We look forward to having you all to the house for an ‘after ride cookout’ on Sept. 11. Come by

bike or car—everyone is welcome. Lets hope for a nice sunny day.
