Upcoming Programs & Events

Dear Rotarians,

October is the month in which we are reminded of the importance of vocational service.

As members of Randolph Rotary, we have high ethical standards in our professions. Our chosen careers allow us to serve through our day-to-day interaction with clients, students, patients, and our community. We donate our time and talent to support local and global vocational service projects and mentor youth so that they can succeed in their vocational pursuits. We are making a difference in Randolph County.

As we work together, we inspire club members and non-Rotarians to take action.

Yours in Rotary Service, Diane Winnemuller

In the March issue of The Rotarian, Diana Schoenberg wrote about a grassroots effort to establish neighborhood lending libraries. The editors of Reader’s Digest ranked the libraries as No. 11 on the list of the “50 Surprising Reasons We Love America.”

The lending libraries beat out Bill Gates at No. 25 and Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi at No. 50. Today, there are more than 16,000 lending libraries in 55 countries. The Little Free Library phenomenon was started by Rotarian Todd Bol.

Randolph Rotary continues to build libraries in our community one book at time. Each week, we donate a book to Randolph County Partnership for Children. We also put dictionaries into the hands of third graders each year.

One of our goals for the upcoming year is to reach more children in Randolph County through our literacy efforts. With that idea in mind, we would like to provide 5th graders a book entitled Your Greatest Power. This book has inspired many people to consider their power of choice. If we can inspire rising middle school students to explore their options, we will create a legacy in our community and hopefully a book that children and parents alike will want to share.

Stopping hunger is one of Rotary’s major humanitarian goals. The Asheboro, Troy, and Randolph Rotary Clubs will be participating in a meal packaging program for Stop Hunger Now at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 505 Mountain Road in Asheboro. We need at least 75 volunteers to package 20,000 meals on Saturday, October 18th. The program is a volunteer-based effort through which participants package high-protein, dehydrated meals to support lunch feeding programs (for 25 cents per meal) at schools and orphanages in areas of chronic malnutrition around the world. Stop Hunger Now will provide the ingredients for the meals and a short training for each packaging session. Set up will begin at 8am in the Parish Hall. First shift will run from 9-11am. Second shift will begin at 11:15 and run until 12:45pm. Clean up begins at 12:45 pm. There are jobs for all types of volunteers. Children are great “runners” carrying items to the stations. Those with excellent penmanship are fantastic at labeling the boxes. If you need a set-down-job, you can sit and weigh the meals as they are packed. We need folks to set up and clean up as well. So, there’s something for everyone. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this event – please sign up to set up, clean up or work a shift. SATURDAY - OCTOBER 18TH. IT’S A LOT OF FUN!

STOP HUNGER NOW

Thanks for making Big Sweep a huge success! Rotarians and Interact students pitched in to help keep Lake Lucas beautiful.
