On May 4, 1987, the US Supreme Court ruled that Rotary Clubs could no longer exclude women from membership on the basis of gender.

in June, 1987, Dr Sylvia Whitlock was inducted byDGE Dr Kim K Siu as the first woman ClubPresident in the historyof Rotary.

Today, there are well over 200,000 female Rotarians,working alongside their male club mates, to servetheir community.

On their Charter Presentation night, Rotary Club of Adliyainducted their first Lady Rotarians. Virginia Adams, Faiza AlZayani and Amanda Ball were the first three Lady Rotariansin Bahrain.

Rotary Clubs of Manama and Sulmaniya followed in 1995 with inductionofDr.SafiaDowaigherandMasoomaKhalafrespectively.

As she spoke of her 15 years as a member of RotarySafia’s face lit up: “You give a lot but you get so much from the experience…… It’s a big commitment and it’s quite competitive because each year you look at what others did and add to it”

Nazha Abu Hendi, first female President of RotaryClub of Adliya in 2008/09, when asked why shebecame a Rotarian: “I liked the spirit. I liked thecode. And I liked the principles….. I am still amember for those reasons.”

The Rotary Club of Sulmaniya elected its first femalePresident in 2011/12, Nada Alawi Shubbar. She wasvery impressed with the commitment of members tohelp others: “I wanted to be involved with such anorganization for its commitment to make adifference and for the friendships the membersmade and support they gave.”

Jennifer E. Jones, a member of the Rotary Club ofWindsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has beennominated to become Rotary International’spresident for 2022-23, a groundbreaking selectionthat will make her the first woman to hold that officein the organization’s 115-year history.

And today Jennifer E. Jones makes history, by becoming first woman named Rotary

president-nominee

Mr. Abdulwahed AlJanahi, CEO of The BENEFIT Company, and Vice Chairman of SINNAD has a successful career. A holder of an MBA from Bahrain University and Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Edward’s University at Austin, Texas, USA.

Prior to joining BENEFIT, he was Assistant General Manager heading the Electronic Banking Division and in charge of all the electronic channels at Bank of Bahrain & Kuwait [BBK].

Educated in Management and with a Marketing background in Austin, Texas, USA, Mr. AlJanahi began his career as a Credit Analyst with American Express, then later worked for Batelco in two terms first as a Senior Procedures Analyst and then as Head of Business Development for it’s Internet Service Provider in Saudi Arabia.

The Rotary Club of Manama (RCM) held its second regular weekly

meeting in the new rotary year 2020-2021, hosting an interesting

discussion that highlighted the efforts exerted by businesses to

cope with the repercussions of the outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-

19) pandemic.

The online meeting was chaired by RCM President Ms. Marjan

Modara and it was attended by RCM members and guests, as well

as presidents and members of the sister Rotary Clubs in Bahrain. 11

Themed "Pivoting Your Business", the session included three

guest speakers from different sectors; health, hospitality and

marketing.

They shed light on several topics, focusing on how businesses are

striving to rebound from the economic and social impacts that

accompanied the global outbreak of the pandemic by the

beginning of this year.

The speakers included Bahrain Specialist Hospital CEO Dr. Arpan

David, the Merchant House General Manager Mr. Justin Kim, and

Obai & Hill CEO and Women Power Summit Founder Ms. Wafa Al

Obaidat.

05-08-20 The RCM Boar of Directors held their second board meeting and discussed projects and budgets. PP Khalid handed the awards received from the District to the Directors concerned.

Support for Lebanon’s disaster recovery wasapproved.
