Dear Parishioners,
These days of isolation and reopening create a new set of questions about participation in the faith life of the Church. In particular, I have received inquiries about when Eucha-ristic Adoration will continue. At Santa Cruz, Eucharistic Adoration is an important and continuous part of our parish experience. Many people spend time in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and they are anxious and ready to begin this practice again. For the present, it is not possible to reopen the Adoration Chapel because of social distancing. With this in mind, we are asked to be patient and to renew our devotion and prayer life by visiting the church that is open during the day:
Monday – Thursday: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
I invite everyone who participates in Eucharistic Adoration to spend this time in the church and focus our attention on the tabernacle wherein is the real presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I would like to invite you to pray the following prayer when you begin your period of prayer in the church:
O sweetest Jesus, You have been waiting patiently for me and watching for the moment when you would find me once more in your presence. And now, dearest Jesus I have come to you with my heart full of thanks to You for giving me this day to labor for your honor and glory and the salva-tion of my soul. I offer myself entirely to you. Make me resemble you in charity and kindness and resigned to your holy will. Grant that I may be worthy of the reward that you have promised to those who love you faithfully on earth. Amen.
The day will come when we will be able to resume our prac-tice of Eucharistic Adoration. By practicing patience and constant prayer in these days of isolation and reopening, we will return to the Adoration Chapel with a renewed heart enlivened by the light of God’s love.

Estos días de aislamiento y reapertura crean un nuevo con-junto de preguntas sobre la participación en la vida de fe de la Iglesia. En particular, he recibido consultas sobre cuándo continuará la Adoración Eucarística. En Santa Cruz, la ado-ración eucarística es una parte importante y continua de nuestra experiencia parroquial. Muchas personas pasan tiempo en presencia de Nuestro Señor en el Santísimo Sa-cramento y están ansiosas y listas para comenzar esta práctica nuevamente. Por el momento, no es posible re-abrir la Capilla de Adoración debido al distanciamiento so-cial. Con esto en mente, se nos pide ser pacientes y reno-var nuestra vida de devoción y oración visitando la iglesia que está abierta durante el día:
Lunes a jueves: 7:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. Viernes: 7:00 a.m. a 3:00 p.m.
Invito a todos los que participan en la Adoración Eucarísti-ca a pasar este tiempo en la iglesia y centrar nuestra aten-ción en el tabernáculo donde está la presencia real de Nuestro Señor en el Santísimo Sacramento. Me gustaría invitarle a rezar la siguiente oración cuando comience su período de oración en la iglesia:
Oh dulce Jesús, has estado esperando pacientemente por mí y observando el momento en que me encontrarías una vez más en tu presencia. Y ahora, querido Jesús, he veni-do a ti con mi corazón lleno de gracias a ti por darme este día para trabajar por tu honor y gloria y la salvación de mi alma. Me ofrezco completamente a ti. Haz que me parezca a ti en caridad y amabilidad y resigne a tu santa voluntad. Concede que pueda ser digno de la recompensa que has prometido a los que te aman fielmente en la tierra. Amén.
Llegará el día en que podremos reanudar nuestra práctica de Adoración Eucarística. Al practicar la paciencia y la ora-ción constante en estos días de aislamiento y reapertura, volveremos a la Capilla de la Adoración con un corazón renovado, animado por la luz del amor de Dios.

Coronavirus Disease Bishop Vasquez has put measures in place for all the par-ishes of the Diocese to limit the spread of the flu (influenza) and virus. These measures are temporary and they are in place in order to protect the health of everyone at Mass. Please visit the parish website, santacruzcc.org for updated infor-mation. If you are ill, please refrain from attending Mass. When a person is sick or bound to their home or who is at risk for contracting this flu and virus can fulfil the obligation of Sunday Mass by participating in Mass via radio or television. Clerical Endowment Fund Mass Cards may be purchased in the church office. The CEF was established by the Austin Di-
ocesan Council of Catholic Women to raise money for the educa-tion of diocesan seminarians. Masses and prayers are offered for the person enrolled and also for those enrolling. Suggested do-
nations for these cards are $2.00 and $5.00 for one year enroll-ment. Also available are perpetual enrollments: for an individual $25.00, for a family $50.00 for an organization $100.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED: SIGN BEFORE THE GOSPEL QUESTION: I have been going to Mass for years and have always wondered: why do we make the three signs of the cross before the Gospel? _______________________________________
Answer: Certainly, many people go to Mass or other devo-tions, doing and saying things out of habit or rev-erence and not really understanding the reasons behind some of these things. But everything we do has a meaning or purpose that helps us to worship better, proclaim our beliefs, or focus the attention of the people on something that has a greater importance or significance. A review of the meaning of various gestures and practices can help us have a deeper appreciation for what we do. There is a little prayer that goes with the three crosses before the Gospel. “May the words of the Holy Gospel be on my mind, on my lips and in my heart.” In standing to hear the Gospel, we acknowledge that Jesus is present, and the words of the Gospel are addressed to us. All of the gestures and special postures we adopt be-fore the Gospel are intended to help us prepare for hearing the Word as well as act on it. The in-cense, the Alleluia, the deacon or priest, and the special dialogue and announcement that intro-duces the Gospel help us focus our attention on the Good News we are about to hear. The three signs of the cross show our desire and good in-tention to hear and live the Gospel.
