The parent hour for Explorers includes a family potluck as well as a performance given by staff and campers. Parent hours are Thursday 6:30pm-7:30pm.

30.309 Moving to the Beat - Campers are introduced to musical concepts through singing, movement, arts and crafts and playing rhythm instruments. We will also discover the joy, power, and energy that music offers all of us, and we will even make our own musical instruments!

30.313 pirates & princesses - Set sail for the land of make believe. Young buccaneers and pretty princesses take in tall tales and create a fantastical world full of treasures and tiaras. Campers will go on treasure hunts, make fun pirate and princess crafts. On Friday campers will be invited to dress up as a pirate or princess.

All of your favorite characters are here in Disney’s ALADDIN JR., a stage adaptation of the Disney hit film. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides, audiences’ spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” will certainly make this musical a favorite for many years to come! This summer, RCCYT is offering a two week program dedicated to helping young people’s skills in performance. The program focuses on the 3 C’s of performing: building confidence, creativity and creating community. In the two week program, students will participate in workshops Movement, Theater Games, Speech, Singing, Dancing, Makeup, and Stagecraft. Junior Fire AcAdemyAge 11-15with the Redwood City Fire Department Staff Ever dream of being firefighter? Well stop dreaming and start doing at the Junior Fire Academy! Participants develop life long skills not only learning about emergency preparedness, but also how to work together to accomplish tasks.

Taught by professional firefighters, participants learn skills including: First Aid, CPR, exit drills, fire extinguisher use, disaster preparedness, and home safety. In addition to the practical skills they can use everyday, participants learn what its like to be a firefighter by extinguishing fire with fire hoses, proper lifting techniques for moving ladders and hose, hose management, and they even get to climb the 100 foot tall ladder! All activities are optional, but positive, encouraging attitudes are not. This is a great opportunity to explore a day in the life of a firefighter!

Kidz Love Soccer cAMPS(Age 4½-10)Spend a week enjoying the world’s most popular sport in a fun, recreational environment. JUNIOR GOLF CAMPAge 5-14yrswith Emerald Hills Golf StaffCamp starts at 9:00 but you can drop off as early as 8:45! Orientation will be on Monday at 9:00am, and this is an opportunity for us to get to know the campers and for the campers to learn camp rules and expectations and meet their counselors. Throughout the camp they will be taught the skills of putting, chipping, bunker shots, driving and midrange game. We will take them into our driving range where they will be able to fine tune their swings. We believe the best way for young golfers to learn is by allowing them to play on a real golf course, as opposed to just a driving range. At the same time we can also teach them golf etiquette which is very important to use on a golf course. Hot Lunch is served daily for all campers and snacks will be provided at aftercare. Want a jump on the future? Want to gain professional experience? Take the challenge and join the Leadership in Training Team with the City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Service Department! This hands-on training for age 13-15 year olds will provide you with real job experience at summer camps and summer after-school programs. Throughout the summer there will be: • Inspirational speakers • Sports Activities • Field Trips • Arts & Crafts • Interview Workshops • Resume and Application Workshops • Team Building and Personal Skills Training • Plus a lot of Fun! A certificate of completion will be given to all participants at our Teen Lock-in Party!

The Leadership in Training program will be broken up into four two week sessions, each at $75 per session. Applications must be picked up at the Red Morton Community Center, located at 1120 Roosevelt Avenue after May 1, 2013. Applications are due by 5:00pm, May 24, 2013 and interviews will be held from June 3rd through June 14th. All applicants must participate in the interview process to participate in the LIT program. A mandatory training will be held June 18-21 as well as the second Wednesday of your session. (No program on July 4, 2013)

Swim team practices are Monday through Friday evenings at Herkner Pool with competitive swim meets once a week.

This season starts May 29, 2013 and ends with the championship meet and end of swim-season celebration on July 27, 2013.

Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly strokes will be taught along with diving, flip turns and swimming sportsmanship.

* Novice swimmers must be able to swim one lap without stopping prior to joining the team. Our team is a good introduction to competitive swimming. Your child need not be a Redwood City Park & Rec “Shark Level” swimmer to be on the team.

Applicants must have prior swim experience and have an interest in working with young children.Throughout the summer you will… • Participate in Team Building and Personal Skills Training • Work with the Redwood City Lifeguard team • Assist with Swim Lessons along side a Certified Lifeguard • Gain valuable Lifeguard Experience • Learn about rescue equipment, techniques, and water safety • Assist in Pool Maintenance & Facility Cleaning • Have a lot of Fun!

The program will be broken up into (4) two-week sessions. Junior Lifeguards will receive a staff T-Shirt and Jr. Lifeguard hat. Junior Lifeguards must provide their own swimsuit; girls should wear a solid blue or black athletic one-piece, and boys should wear blue or black swim trunks. Please sign up early as spaces are limited. Jr. Guards can work in the mornings or afternoons depending on their individual preference.
