Financial Aid FridaysFinancial Aid Fridays Freshman EOF/MAP students are

required to attend one Financial Aid Workshop. All EOF/MAP students are encourage to attend.

Benefits Of Attending Workshops:

◦ Students will know that the FAFSA was filled out correctly the first time.

◦ Filling out your FAFSA early may assist you in receiving additional funds.

◦ Will ensure that all states and federal filling deadlines are met.

Items Needed To Attend Workshops:

◦ PIN Number: if you do not have a Pin please visit http://www.pin.ed.gov

◦ 2008 Taxes Forms: 1040’s, W2’s or any untaxed income forms such as SSI or TANF earned in 2008.

◦ PIN Numbers, taxes forms and/or untaxed forms are needed for both students and legal guardian.

Dates of Workshops:

◦ February 27th

◦ March 6th, 13th and 27th

◦ April 3rd, 17th and 24th

◦ May 1st and 8th

Please note that a FAFSA must be filled out by June 1st 2009 to receive TAG and EOF grants for 2009-2010 academic year.

If a FAFSA is not completed by June 1st a fulltime student could loose up to $ 8,198 for the 2009-2010 academic year.

We are conducting two sessions.

◦ Workshops will be held in the CAP Center Computer Lab

Chi Alpha EpsilonChi Alpha Epsilon Purpose

◦ Chi Alpha Epsilon was formed to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and the universities through non-traditional criteria.

◦ Its purposes are to promote continued high academic standards, to foster increased communication among its members, and to honor academic excellence achieved by those students.

How to qualify◦ Fulltime students who have earned two consecutive semesters of a 3.0 or better.

◦ Part-time students who have earned four consecutive semesters of a 3.0 or better.

Mentoring program had a great fall 2008 semester, which included a myriad of academic workshops, community building activities and trips.  Like the remainder of the university, the program is undergoing some financial challenges, but we still plan to make this an enjoyable and successful spring 2009 semester for our participants

  It is never too late to get involved

with the  Dr. Harley E. Flack Student Mentoring program.  To get involved with the program:◦ As a mentee, come to the mentoring

office (Savitz 336) and complete a Peer-Mentor Request Form.

◦ As a peer-mentor, come to the mentoring office (Savitz 336) and complete a Peer-Mentor Application.

◦ Simply come to any of the program’s events or general meetings which will be advertised throughout the semester

Applications will be available on line February 5th (PROS encouraged to attend)

Prospective Student Staff Member◦ Must maintain a 2.5 Cumulative GPA◦ All pending and past disciplinary matters will be reviewed by the Student

Staff Standards Committee for possible disqualification or deferred approval.

◦ Typically, an applicant who has been found in violation of the University’s drug policy, has repeated violations of the alcohol policy, has engaged in violent behavior, or has incomplete disciplinary sanctions will not be considered for a student staff position, within the Division of Student Affairs.

◦ All applicants should be advised that background checks of social networking sites such as, Facebook and MySpace may be conducted.

◦ Any violation of University policy or local, state and federal laws, while in the application process, may result in disqualification.

Pre-College Summer Institute Pre-College Summer Institute Peer Counselor PositionsPeer Counselor Positions

Interpersonal Skills

◦ Responsible for assisting the professional counselor in a variety of related interpersonal skills workshops and ongoing seminars. Peer Counselors in this component will be expected to address large and small groups of students, disseminate information, and interact with administrators across the campus.

Programming

◦ Responsible for general programming of the residence hall and the constructive opportunities time period which includes: Evergreen Lounge, Recreation Center and Student Center; Provides residence hall security and completes basic reports.

Academics

◦ Responsible for monitoring assigned classes. Assists the classroom instructor. Provides individualized and group academic support, completes related reports, attends staff meetings as scheduled. Monitors structured study in the library and residence hall.

Clerical

◦ Provides clerical support, completes reports, and assists in the general administrative duties in both the EOF/MAP Office and residence hall. Knowledge of both Macintosh and IBM computers are a must

Qualifications

◦ Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Peer Counselors for Academics must have a 3.0 average in the subject area to be tutored.

Procedure

◦ Obtain an application from the EOF/MAP website or the Office located in Savitz Hall.

◦ All PCI positions are residential. Peer Counselors are permitted to be involved in the Summer 1 Session only. Peer Counselors are not permitted to be involved in internships, secondary employment, or any related activities during the Pre-College Institute.
