Press Release:
SAC Urges the Arab League to Take a Strong Stance, Stop Watching the Syrian
Regime's Crime
(Chicago, IL, 1/9/12) - The Syrian American Council (SAC) urges the Arab League
to stop providing the Syrian regime more time to continue its crimes against the
Syrian people. The Syrian regime continues killing peaceful demonstrators andcivilians instead of complying with the Arab League demands.
The Arab League monitors appear incapable of stopping the Syrian regime's brutal
crackdown or reporting accurate events from Syria. The lack of action by the Arab
League has created the feeling that it is a partner of the Syrian regime in its crimes
against the Syrian people.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/09/us-syria-idUSTRE8041A820120109The monitors have failed to stop the killing in Syria. The regime hasn't released the
thousands of protesters incarcerated as it had agreed; it hasn't withdrawn its army
from the cities and continues to prevent foreign journalists to enter the country."We do not believe that the Arab League observers are capable of putting an end to
the regime's violent crackdown against peaceful demonstrators. The events during
the past two weeks and history have shown that criminals and brutal dictators will
not stop their crimes unless a credible power intervenes. The Arab League should
have the courage to admit its failure in this mission instead of continuing to watch
Assad's slaughtering of the Syrian people," said SAC President Talal Sunbulli.SAC urges the Arab League to refer the Syria file to the UN Security Council to
implement measures, including the establishment of safety zones and humanitarian
corridors, to stop the Syrian regime's crimes and to protect civilians demanding
freedom, democracy and dignity.
SAC was founded in 2005 to mobilize Syrian Americans to strengthen civil society
in Syria, to promote friendly relations between the Syrian and American peoples, toengage civic and governmental organizations to advance civil liberties, human
dignity and democracy in Syria. The organization has represented Syrian
Americans to the U.S. State Department, Congress, and in international meetings
and councils.
