FIT-CISL Presentation
by Francesco di Fiore
FIT-CISL is one of the most important Italian Unions. It is a Federation with around 160.000 members.
FIT-CISL is part of ETF (European Transport Federation) and ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation).
It has very important representations in both organizations in the governing bodies like Executive Boards and in particular in all the maritime structures (FPC, Cruise Task Force, FOC Campaign working group, etc.)
FIT-CISL has participated to the preparation of the new Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) at ILO, in Geneva, and it has one person in the group to negotiate the minimum ILO Basic Wage for an A.B.
Executive Committee - Cisl - 18 July 2012 The Confederation reorganized its categories
by reducing them from 19 to 9
On this policy on 13 September 2012 The Federations Fistel - Flaei and Fit estabilished to
unify them in a sole cathegory involving energy , comunications and transport net.

IMPLEMENTATION
Also for implementation of MLC 2006 Fit Cisl has started a discussion with
the Company in Geneva for a new CBA
In particular with the new Director General we have reached an
agreement to avoid the wrong behaviour of many agencies to
collect money from the seafarer to embark.
If someone asks for special services to the agency to avoid
to do it by himself he has to spend something .
It is important to pay attention also for the training
offered by the agencies
For any doubt contact the Fit Cisl to verify that all additional
expenditure are correct.
We knew that in the past had to pay 3 hundred dollars to
embark. Now no more money have to be paid .

To evaluate the activity of the inspectors it is important to take into account also the abandoned vessels and / or arrested for legal action. In both cases the inspectors must dedicate a huge part of their activity. In 2013 the situation was the following:

Conclusions
This has been a short presentation of the union I represent here and the activity of our inspectors. Together with NSU we cover all the cruise vessels in the world with the exclusion of Carnival Cruise Lines. We are very close to sign an agreement also with that Company. Our task is not only to give a CBA to the seafarers but to help them for their needs including training like we are doing in this Seminar.
