Chris Rowe on Travel: Take an Annual “Tour”Trip
Chris Rowe, a two‑time Southern Texas PGA HarveyPenick Award winner and 2013 Section Merchandiserof the Year for Private Facilities, is the PGA headprofessional at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity,Texas.
Chris Rowe on the importance of taking an annual “tour” trip:Each and every year here at Whispering Pines we have a set trip toPebble Beach the week after the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro‑Am concludes. Typically, I travel with 21 members and both of myPGA assistant professionals. Prior to the trip, members alwayswatch the AT&T in anticipation of playing the venue following theworld’s best. Additionally, the atmosphere with grandstands andPGA Tour infrastructure still erected makes for a fun and uniqueatmosphere members never forget!
Chris Rowe on the business impact of taking an annual “tour”trip:For each member the trip runs roughly $2,500, including staying inPebble Beach’s famed Lodge. Year‑to‑year we see roughly 40percent return members and 60 percent new members takingadvantage of the trip. Working at a club that is only open sevenmonths of the year, it’s imperative for me as the head golfprofessional to connect members and bring them together. Thisannual trip is not a money maker, but a relationship maker thatallows our club and membership to stay closely connected.
