Chris Rowe on the importance of taking an annual “tour” trip: Each and every year here at Whispering Pines we have a set trip to Pebble Beach the week after the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro‑ Am concludes. Typically, I travel with 21 members and both of my PGA assistant professionals. Prior to the trip, members always watch the AT&T in anticipation of playing the venue following the world’s best. Additionally, the atmosphere with grandstands and PGA Tour infrastructure still erected makes for a fun and unique atmosphere members never forget! Chris Rowe on the business impact of taking an annual “tour” trip: For each member the trip runs roughly $2,500, including staying in Pebble Beach’s famed Lodge. Year‑to‑year we see roughly 40 percent return members and 60 percent new members taking advantage of the trip. Working at a club that is only open seven months of the year, it’s imperative for me as the head golf professional to connect members and bring them together. This annual trip is not a money maker, but a relationship maker that allows our club and membership to stay closely connected.
