Andreas also coordinates IAGOS, the In-Service Aircraft for a Global Observing System. The Clusters – it sounds like the name of a band, rocking the EOSC stages … In the European Open Science Cloud ecosystem, the clusters of the ESFRI Research Infrastructures have evolved into key players when it comes to the provision of data and services to their research communities and integrating this to the use of the emerging EOSC infrastructure. The five ESFRI research infrastructures cluster projects span a broad range of scientific fields: life sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences and humanities, photon and neutron sciences, and astronomy and particle physics. ENVRI-FAIR NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2020 provides a personal perspective on the cooperation of ENVRI community and other research infrastructure clusters ANDREAS PETZOLD kept in tune without a conductor. The clusters have developed concerted EOSC value proposition papers which deliver our opinions on what the research infrastructure clusters expect from the EOSC and what will be the added values of EOSC to our communities. Surprisingly, the expectations, needs and offers from the clusters point of view are very similar. And we share a common view: For us European Open Science Cloud means E-Infrastructure consolidation plus Open science plus Scientific Communities’ content and users (see the figure below). This unexpected agreement encourages us to intensify our efforts for a consolidated appearance on the EOSC stages. Our next steps will be to invite each other to our cluster project meetings and build stronger bonds between us. We will share our efforts towards harmonized standards and policies. And finally, we seek for show cases of cross-cluster services as high-level outcomes of the cluster projects. Our journey has started and expectations are flying high. Let’s see where we hit the charts. Despite these highly diverse offerings, the cluster coordinators have developed a cooperative, open-minded and purposeful collaboration, serving our joint goal of getting the best for all of us out of the EOSC. Indeed, it is like starting a band: Each of us might lead a cluster of scientific excellence and with ambitious visions, but staying on our own we are lost, and only together we have a strong voice heard in the European arena. Our rehearsal room is the EOSC-hub Strategy Board where we first met and which offers the platform for intense and open discussions – among ourselves and with e-infrastructures. Our talents are well balanced and we swap roles as required. To date we have
