Walking to End Type 1 Diabetes
Dawson High School HOSA students walked to fundraise to end Type 1
diabetes on Saturday, October 28th at the NRG stadium. These
motivated students collectively raised a total of $485 to support
the cause. Robert Leal, the vice president of the Dawson HOSA
Chapter, describes his experience, “The best part of the walk was
not only crossing the finish line, but also getting to be a part of
a service that allowed us to raise so much money for JDRF and their
diabetes research together as a family of hosiacs!”.

U.S. Secret Service agent, Kim Smith, visited Mrs. Lozano-Gaitan’s
law enforcement classes at Pearland High School. The students were
able to watch a brief video that demonstrated the intense trainings
each agent must pass before hire. Mrs. Smith discussed her
experience with the agency, her likes and dislikes, and the biggest
challenges she faces. Mrs. Smith has had the pleasure of meeting
and been assigned protective detail of each of the living
presidents: Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George
W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Discussing the role of an agent inspired
lots of questions from our students and possibly helped them get
one step closer to deciding on a career path.
