My Friends in the Lord Jesus, Thursday is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. It will have been forty days since Easter Sunday. The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is a feast of Hope, our hope. It is this virtue of Hope, given us by God, which is a force within us, directing our lives, our attention, to the risen Jesus. As we continue to celebrate with joy the resurrection and ascension of the Lord, Jesus assures us that although we cannot see him, he is with us always. Jesus accompanies us every day. The Holy Spirit will remind us of this truth, so that we will never forget. In two weeks from today we will celebrate the feast of Pentecost. The heavenly Father and the Son have given us the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our advocate and our guide. The Holy Spirit reminds us of who Jesus is, what Jesus taught, and of who we are in him, sons and daughters of God, disciples of Jesus Christ. These feasts celebrate that we are the Church, witnesses to the Resurrection, the people of God, the Body of Christ. St. Paul writes in his Letter to the Ephesians, “May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, give you a Spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him. May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, and what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe…” Therefore, we pray “Gladden us with holy joys, almighty God, and make us rejoice with devout thanksgiving, for the Ascension of Christ your Son is our exaltation, and, where the Head has gone before in glory, the Body is called to follow in Hope.” Fr. Ron

6th Sunday of Easter
“...do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." (John 14:27)
Our limited human understanding cannot begin to understand the immense power of God. Instead of trusting in God, we think we can control every outcome. Do you want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. The next time worry, anxiety or fear creeps in, thank God for all He has given you and trust that He has a better plan for you.

Pope Francis, Message for the 53rd World Communications Day, 2019
May 23, 2019 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
In his message for the 2019 World Communications Day, Pope Francis has chosen a theme which asks that we emphasize the value of interaction, and seek dialogue as an opportunity to encounter others. This calls for acknowledging that, through social media, we are part of a community where we must be participants.
On the weekend of June 2, our Diocese will take up a collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). This national collection helps bring the Gospel message to the public square in all forms of media so that all can know the love of God and help make this a better world. As Pope Francis wrote in this year’s Communications Message, “God is not Solitude, but Communion; he is Love, and therefore communication, because love always communicates; indeed, it communicates itself in order to encounter the other." Faithful and honest communica-tion about the life of our Catholic Community is at the service of our evangelizing mission, whereby we encounter others so that we may give witness to God’s love as the true path to eter-nal happiness.
As people continue to access more information on mobile devices and feel overwhelmed by so much noise, there is an increased need to provide faith resources on these platforms as well. With your support of the CCC, the daily readings and seasonal reflections are available as free podcasts to download and listen to at any time, or to read from our diocesan and parish websites along with watching local Masses and program, as well as reading local and national Catholic news stories. Thanks to your donations, Catholics are able to stay connected to their parish and to their Catholic faith even when they are traveling or not regularly at Mass.
Roughly half of the funds collected will remain here in the Diocese to help us support parish-centered communications in collaboration with diocesan programs. The remainder funds national media relations and communications efforts as well as international projects in developing countries. For more information about the collection and the projects it supports, visit: www.usccb.org/ccc. We must rely on your financial support of this collection in order to truly heed the words of Pope Francis, “As sons and daughters of God, we are called to communicate with everyone, without exception.” Please accept my thanks for reflecting on how you can help.
With every prayerful best wish, I remain
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester
