This Week at St. Mark’s Parish

All Souls Day – Friday, November 2 at 7:00 pm Each year, the Church observes the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day) on November 2. It is a day on which we want to remember the dead in light of our Christian faith, which holds that the dead are called to share in Christ’s victory of life over death. At the Mass, we will call forth the names of the persons whose funerals were held at St. Mark’s since last year’s All Souls Day. For each of them, we light a candle from the Easter Candle as an expression of our Easter faith. The families who have had one of their members buried from St. Mark’s in the past year will receive a letter inviting them to this Mass. There may be parishioners who have experienced the death of a close relative (such as father/mother, daughter/son, brother/sister) this past year, whose funeral was celebrated elsewhere. If you wish to have a close relative's name called forth as well, please let us know by calling the office at (819) 684-6926 or by sending an e-mail to the parish office at [email protected]

For the Parishioners of St. Mark’s

Update on Parish Pastoral Council The annual election of the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council took place at their September meeting. The new Chair is Marline Al Koura, and Margie Voisin was re-elected for another term as Vice-Chair. As many of you know, Chris Moraes, the former Chair, moved with his family to Alberta over the summer. Belinda Maimo has been appointed to complete his term as Member of the PPC, until December 31, 2019. CWG Annual Fall Bazaar - Saturday, Nov. 10th Planning is underway for our annual CWG Annual Fall Bazaar which will be held on Saturday Nov 10th. In order to have a successful bazaar, we welcome donations of crafts, toys, games, books, baked goods and other small items. Please no large items (such as exercise/sports equipment, TV’s/computers, furniture, etc.). Tickets for a raffle will be sold after the masses and at Coffee Sunday. Prizes are: 1. Wine Basket, 2. Throw Quilt, 3.Throw Quilt. Starting Tuesday, November 6th the church hall will be open to accept donations, 7:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday from 5 pm to 8pm and Friday throughout the day. For further information, please contact Brenda McGuire (613)797-0106, Diane Burns, Linda Curnock and Dorli McCrank. Everyone welcome! We hope to see you at the Tea Room! Operation Christmas Child Bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world by filling a shoebox. It is one way to remind children suffering as a result of war, poverty, famine, disease, and disaster that they are loved and not forgotten. Boxes and information pamphlets are found at the entrances to the church. Please bring the boxes back at masses before November 11th. For more information call Shirley Frenette at (819) 685-0576. Message from St. Mark’s Youth Group Committee You can still register your child for the 2018-2019 season by sending an email to [email protected] or visit the youth group website and fill in the online registration form. Anyone with enquiries, feel free to email the youth group account and we’ll be happy to answer your questions. Youth group pies for sale Thank you to all the adult volunteers who came and helped with the making of the apple pies with the youth. It was greatly appreciated. There are pies still available and they will continue to be sold every weekend until they're all sold. Thanks to everyone in the parish, we were able to sell them all last year! This provided the youth group with much needed funds to continue operating.

Disaster Assistance for VICTIMS of the Gatineau tornadoes In solidarity with the men and women affected by the tornadoes, the diocesan team has set up a disaster-relief fund for the victims. All proceeds raised by the Archdiocese through its website will be given to the Canadian Red Cross and the Saint-Vincent de Paul. We highly encourage our parishioners, and all the people of good will to offer their support. Please note that the organization Soutien o sinistrés offers help to uninsured disaster victims, including the provision of material goods such as furniture and clothing. Disaster victims can submit their request for support, while others can offer their donations at www.soutienosinistres.org.

On-line option for the weekly collection In a time when many of us use our plastic to pay for everything from our daily coffee to our weekly groceries and gas, it's often hard to remember to bring cash to drop in the collection basket. Not intentionally, of course, it’s just that many of us are not used to carrying cash anymore. We attend Mass, the collection basket comes around and we tell ourselves we will double it next week. Would you like to never have to worry about having cash on hand to drop into the collection basket? We have the perfect solution that’s a win/win for you and the parish: This service is being offered by the Archdiocese of Gatineau, which is absorbing all processing fees and, therefore, 100% of your donation is forwarded to our Parish. The service allows you to make donations and Mass intentions; select a one-time donation or set up a monthly donation. Payment options include cheque, credit card or automated withdrawals from your bank account. See the on-line giving symbol on our parish web site (stmarkaylmer.ca) or visit the diocese website at https://www.imakeanonlinedonation.org/diocesegatineau and follow the simple instructions, complete the required fields and submit your request. You will receive confirmation of your transaction and you will have peace of mind knowing that your gifts contribute to support and maintain the services offered by your Parish. And since you no longer require the parish envelopes, please let the parish office know as this will reduce time, effort and cost for the printing and preparation of the envelopes.
