Staff logs 29+ hours toward community goal of 10,000

Sixty employees logged

29 hours and 15 min-

utes of activity during

the Commit to Get Fit

Challenge October 18.

Liberty Hospital joined

the city’s Commit to Get

Fit Challenge to reach

10,000 hours of “off

the couch” activity. To

help reach that goal,

employees participated

in a walk on campus

that was moved in-

doors because of rain.

The hospital’s total

minutes will be added to

the city’s hourglass that

is tracking the commu-

nity’s progress toward

10,000 hours of activity.

If you are interested in

signing up for free to

participate in this com-

munity effort, go to

www.ci.liberty.mo.us

and on the Department

menu, click Parks &

Recreation and then

Commit to Get Fit.

Or, go to the Liberty

Community Center.

Cardiac Rehab “I was very pleased with all the help I received at Liberty Rehab. The staff members were always kind, professional and caring. Thank you and God be with you always.” — submitted by a patient

Cardiac Rehab “I just completed phase II of my cardiac rehab program. The cardiac staff consisting of Kim, Chris, Karla, Ruanne and Pam were superb! They were all very professional, informative and well versed in cardiac rehabilitation — and best of all, they made the class fun to go to! In fact, I have signed up for phase III.” — submitted by a patient

Emergency “I just wanted to write to tell you how incredible your staff was. I may botch some names but Angelique, Dottie, Joe, Bev, and the woman who did triage (I can’t remember her name), but they were wonderful. They kept reassuring me that I was going to be okay. I really can not tell you how much that helped. I really hope that you will pass this message along to them, they are all an amazing asset to your team at Liberty Hospital.” —submitted by a patient

Security “I was stopped in the hallway this morning and thanked by one of our employees. She stated she really appreciated seeing our security vehicle patrolling the parking lots in the morning when she ar-rives for work. I want to pass her gratitude on and say thanks to all of you for the extra effort made mak-ing yourselves highly visible in the parking lots and garages. As demonstrated this morning, it is noticed and appreciated by others.” —Kenney Williams, Lead Officer

Employee Meetings Week of December 9

DID YOU KNOW?

The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at met all 10 national standards when audited recently by the American Diabetes Association. The team at Liberty sees patients in class and individually for Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Handle With Care Lite Classes are now in NetLearning. All nursing personnel (including CNAs) must attend a two-hour class by December 31. There are more than 40 classes to be held in the auditorium. Go to NetLearning and sign up for the class that best fits your schedule. Although the initial focus group for this class is nursing, it is open to any employee. You will not be a part of the Critical Incident Response Team that responds to Code White calls; but you will be a vital part in the assessment of situations that could escalate to the point when a Code White needs to be called.

Bonita Dobson, 2 East “Bonita is a very caring R.N. She always made sure my medicines were on time and that my ice cup was always full. She was very attentive to my needs especially when it came to my nausea and needing warm blankets. It was very reassuring to know I was going back into Bonita’s care when coming back to my room.” —submitted by a patient Tamra Simpson, 2 East “I am a very difficult person to care for and this young lady is a Shining Star. She not only has common sense, but she has what it takes to go far. She is a hard worker. She ran her tail off non-stop to make me comfortable and happy. She is one you don’t want to lose – a true diamond in the rough.” —submitted by a patient Kristen Baum, E.D. Admitting Kristen showed…extreme courteousness and patience during high levels of stress with a large patient load and dealt well with patient’s rudeness. Kristen at all times remained calm, pleasant, smiling and courteous. —submitted by a co-worker Ashli Sooter, 3 East “Ashli is very sweet and comforting while she competently carries out her work. Not one time did she act as if she’d rather be somewhere else. She listens (I mean really listens) and seems to really care. She has an excitement about life that is infectious. I was truly glad each day that she was my aide and missed her on the days she wasn’t.” —submitted by a patientEach Shining Star will receive a reserved parking space in a garage for a month.

CHAMPIONS OF EXCELLENCEHighlighting employees and departments that exemplify the Liberty Hospital Mission, Vision and Values.

As you can see, the lobby of the hospital and the Doctors Office Building, as well as the patient registra-

tion waiting area and the gift shop all are getting a much needed facelift. All of this is thanks to the generosity of the Liberty Hospital Auxiliary. This project, costing approximately $100,000, is being donated by the Auxiliary. I’d like to thank the Auxiliary, its volunteers and

leadership for mak-ing this happen. This upgrade will improve the hospital’s overall image and increase the comfort for our patients. Thank you to all of the staff who have been working tirelessly to make the transition.

I enjoyed seeing all of the pumpkins on the Bridge for Halloween and appreciate all those who took time to participate. That event demonstrated great team spirit and comradery, which is what the Liberty Hospital Foundation’s Employee Giving Campaign is all about. I encourage you to con-sider what you can give

to make a difference in supporting the hospital’s mission. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our hospital fam-ily and the commu-nity. You have through Friday, November 15, to sign up and be entered for a chance to win several grand prizes, including iPad 2s, iPad minis and a reserved parking space.

We have a great opportunity for a community event with Medical Careers Night coming up November 13. Hundreds of Liberty 8th through 12th graders and their parents will be here interacting with our

staff through panel discussions, an exhibit fair on the Bridge, tours and lectures. If you’re here from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, be sure to stop by the Bridge or Education Center and feel free to visit with students about your field of expertise.

This is our second year to host this event in conjunction with the Liberty Public School District. For details, take a look at page 4.

Finally, quarterly employee meetings are coming up the week of December 9.
