Strategic Engagement Lead - iDECIDE

We are currently looking for a Strategic Engagement Lead within the Centre for Cancer Biomarkers, Clinical Trial Bioinfomatics Group. The aim of this post is to enhance the awareness, understanding and reputation of the dECMT (Digital Experimental Cancer Medicine Team - iDecide programme) across a range of internal and external stakeholders. A key aspect of this role will also be involvement in the development of innovative solutions and engagement with stakeholders, particularly patients. Key responsibilities also include:

Develop and implement a brand identify for the dECMT.

Lead the strategic development of dECMT engagement utilising key communications channels, e.g. web presence, digital, social media and publications.

Create engagement programmes to demonstrate that the dECMT/iDecide framework is innovating in research, clinical trial design and patient engagement.

Build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders/interfaces across the organisation CRUK/dECMT and with partner organisations and sponsors as part of the iDecide collaboration.

The successful applicant should have a Degree in a biomedical discipline or health-related subject (or equivalent relevant experience). Additionally, they should have significant operational management experience within a complex multi-disciplinary organisation, alongside experience leading patient insight and/or patient engagement initiatives are essential for this position. ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS

JOB PURPOSE

This senior position plays a pivotal role in enhancing the awareness, understanding and reputation of the dECMT (Digital Experimental Cancer Medicine Team - iDecide programme) across a range of internal and external stakeholders. A key aspect of this role will also be involvement in the development of innovative solutions and engagement with stakeholders, particularly patients. Key interfaces to manage and develop include: Astrazeneca, CRUK, Pharma industry, Clinicians, Patients, Vendors, University of Manchester, Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC), NHS, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (The Christie), National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) Network and General Public/News Media.

BACKGROUND As part of the continued AstraZeneca-University of Manchester clinical trial informatics biomarker collaboration (announced September 2015), there is an increasing focus to enable data collected during a clinical trial to be available to decision makers both within sponsor and within investigator trial site to better understand the emerging risk-benefit of the clinical trial investigational medicinal product (CTIMP) and thus augment patient care. Specifically, iDECIDE is a construct which draws relevant expertise from across AstraZeneca and Manchester Cancer Research Centre in an enterprise-wide model to coordinate (at present) four initiatives/platforms: 1.”REACT” which utilises information constrained by case record forms and within 24h of being

entered into RAVE/CAVE enables visualisations intuitive to decision makers. This includes implementation of a real time data capture system within a clinical trials unit 2. “Competitive Intelligence” which is seeking to place REACT data into the context of clinical trial data existing in the public domain to understand better the merits/demerits of data from the ongoing study obtained through REACT. 3. “PROACT” which enables the voice of the patient to be heard through an unconstrained data collection system (smartphone uploaded video) to enhance understanding on safety, efficacy, convenience and trial conduct direct from the patient; and to use such devices to inform and be informed by the patient to increase their engagement in the clinical trial 4. “WATCHER” which using clinical decision based algorithms, assesses whether there are index cases meeting pre-defined threshold criteria in the database and alerts the clinical trials team Prototypes for these four iDECIDE platforms will be developed within AstraZeneca, through contract research organisations and through a partnership with Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) in which AstraZeneca will fund ~9 research staff to specifically focus on the further development of the two platforms REACT and PROACT. This latter group over the 2016-2020 time frame is envisaged as the major AstraZeneca funded prototyping capability for these two platforms developing new visualisations and new utilisations of these platforms based upon feedback from AstraZeneca project/clinical teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Using existing knowledge and expertise this individual will: Engagement strategy development

Be responsible for the development of an engagement strategy to build visibility and raise awareness of the dECMT.

Be responsible for the development of long term dECMT vision and 5 year plan and the engagement strategy and objectives to achieve this.

Develop and implement a brand identify for the dECMT.

Lead the strategic development of dECMT engagement utilising key communications channels, e.g. web presence, digital, social media and publications.

Create engagement programmes to demonstrate that the dECMT/iDecide framework is innovating in research, clinical trial design and patient engagement.

Develop publication and engagement strategies around key milestones (eg publications, congresses, digital enhancements and innovations).

Communications strategy implementation

Develop and creatively implement the dECMT communication strategies and objectives across all communications.

Develop key communication points and messaging framework to support the vision and objectives.

Develop and implement core materials to support the communication and marketing objectives for use by the dECMT team and across appropriate channels.

Lead the development and production of engaging, high quality content for both internal and external use (eg videos, info graphic, website, news features).

Establish measures of success and implement relevant evaluation for communication activities.

Determine communication cascades, message, approach and style for planned communications.

Review, measure and evaluate internal communications practices, platforms and activities.

Draw upon biomedical training to assist teams in the development and prioritisation of digital tools to interrogate scientific/medical data.

THE CITY OF MANCHESTER AND THE REGION Manchester is one of the great European cities and the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute is located a short distance from the city centre and is serviced by regular public transport to the city centre. The city’s architecture represents one of the high points of Victorian achievement. The modern city is a major centre of banking, commerce and manufacturing. It has a highly cosmopolitan atmosphere and its cultural life is internationally renowned. There are three outstanding professional theatre companies, the halls of the Hallé and BBC Philharmonic orchestras, the Cornerhouse as well as other cinemas, and Europe’s fastest-growing Chinatown. On the way into the city, there is perhaps the best stretch of road in the entire country for Indian and Pakistani food, known as the curry mile in Rusholme. Amongst developments enriching the area’s cultural life have been: the opening of the Lowry Centre and Media City at Salford Quays; the opening of the Bridgewater Concert Hall; the refurbishment of the City Art Gallery; the opening of Urbis in the centre of Manchester and of the Imperial War Museum North, designed by Daniel Libeskind, in Trafford. Trafford, specifically Old Trafford, is known internationally for sport: it is a venue for Test cricket and the home of Manchester United FC. The Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester in 2002 and were highly acclaimed. The Commonwealth Stadium became the home of Manchester City FC in 2003. Housing is varied, plentiful and the price ranges can start moderately priced and are as varied as the requirements. Schooling ranges from world-famous private schools to excellent sixth-form colleges and comprehensives. Manchester is well served by a major international airport, with direct scheduled flights to many destinations in Europe as well as North America and Asia. Manchester Piccadilly railway station has been refurbished and is served by inter-city and other train services – with a direct link to Manchester Airport. The expanding network of Metrolink tram services offers an alternative mode of public transport from certain parts of the conurbation and is currently being expanded to include connections near to the Institute. Some of the most beautiful countryside in Europe is just short of an hour’s drive from the Institute in the Peak District National Park, while the Lake District and Snowdonia are also within easy reach. Manchester offers extensive provision for research. Library facilities include the John Rylands University Library (the major library in the North West and the third largest in the country) and the Manchester Central Reference Library. Salary is paid monthly.

There are 32 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays for England.

Duration of contract: fixed term until 31st December 2020.

37 hour week.

There is a probationary period attached to this post of 6 months. It’s standard for many organisations now and consists of two 3-monthly reviews with your line manager.

You are eligible to join the USS pension scheme.
