    How to Play

Curriculum Letter identification, phonics skills (vowel and consonant sounds), word building, spelling

Learning Within Each Level Each level contains several rounds of gameplay with different degrees of difficulty. At the end of every round, your child’s correct answers are added up, and the degree of difficulty in the next round automatically adjusts based on how well your child did. If your child has answered less than 40 percent of the questions correctly, the activity will decrease in difficulty until your child grows more confident with the concepts. If your child answers between 41 percent and 80 percent of the questions correctly, she will keep playing at the current level. If your child answers more than 81 percent of the questions correctly and has played the current round five times, the degree of difficulty will automatically increase in the next round.

Harold’s Barrels ship has spilled its load into the water! Help Harold clean up by using the arrow keys to guide him over the barrels. Press the down arrow to pick up a barrel.

Level 1 Each barrel has a letter on it. You’ll be asked to find the barrel with the correct vowel on it; for example, find the barrel with the letter a on it to complete the word map.

Level 2 Each barrel has a letter on it. Listen and look at the screen to see which barrels you should grab to spell a word. For example, to spell hat, you’ll be asked to pick up the letter h, then a and t.

Watch out for the whale! If he swims below Harold and blows his spout, he’ll throw off Harold’s balance. Use the arrow keys to move Harold safely out of the way!

Watch the fuel bar at the top of the screen. When Harold’s fuel runs out, the round is over!
