Panam The crossroad of the world Panama is located in the
Southern part of the Central Americas isthmus. It is bordered to
the South East by Colombia and to the West by Costa Rica. It is
surrounded by the Caribbean Sea in the North and by the Pacific
Ocean in the South. Panama's arched shape reflects both its role as
a bridge between continents and as a passage way between oceans.
Indeed, they are linked by the Panamas canal which construction
started in 1903 and was inaugurated in 1914. This canal crosses a
natural unevenness formed by San Blas and Talamanca cordillera. Its
real length is 65 Km, nevertheless the canals length from
deep-water areas where navigation is possible is 80 Km (50mi).
Panam is universally famous for this canal, prowess of civil
engineering and hyphen between the greatest oceans of the world.
However, mentioning only the Canal would be reducing Panams
wonders. Beside it, the country counts with a rich historical
Heritage dating from Spanish colonization, an astonishing variety
of fauna and flora, and it offers fine sand beaches inspiring
"farniente". Furthermore, there are many and very accessible
indigenous people. Politically stable and well-equipped with modern
infrastructures, Panam benefits from all the "Incentive"
ingredients, with the "plus" of being at the beginning of its
tourism History. We invite you to go beyond the stereotypes about
Panama, and to discover this country which natural and human
richness are just about to be discovered.

Second colonial city, Portobelo was built in 1597, one year
after the destruction of Nombre de Dios by the pirate Sir Francis
Drake. Indeed, Nombre de Dios, the first colonial city official,
was in a shallow bay and poorly protected. Portobelo was then
performed in a beautiful bay allowing a much better defense. It is
an important commercial port in Latin America. She was known to the
XVI and XVII centuries an intense maritime traffic. Galleons from
Spain came to unload their goods but more importantly, other
transiting galleons loaded with gold from South America
(particularly Peru and Ecuador). It was then an important
commercial center. This small town steeped in history has the
remains of its glorious past as the customs of Portobelo, the ruins
of the Castillo Santiago de la Gloria and Fort San Geronimo.

the Panamanian nation. Its incredible splendor clearly evokes the
Colonial past five centuries which have passed through the
political, military, educational and religious of the Isthmus of
Panama and the world. Inspired by the magnificence of its
construction of the seventeenth century and the emblem of the
famous revolutionary Simon Bolivar, the current Bolivar Palacio now
houses the Directorate General of Diplomatic Information and
Communication Ministry of External Relations.

The Fort San Lorenzo was erected during the 17th century,
perched at the mouth of Rio Chagres, on a promontory west of the
canal. Its aim was to protect this strategic river on which boats
were transiting from Peru with gold. In 1671,it was attacked by the
famous pirate Henry Morgan. This place commands a wide view of the
river and bay far below. In 1908, authorities of the new Republic
of Panama declared it National Historic Monument, and in 1980, it
was declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO Detour to the ruins
