Thank you to all the parents that have returned their Student Intentions for 2018 form to the office. This information has been very helpful in planning for the New Year. Just a reminder that this Friday 17th November is the last day for these forms to be submitted. Also in preparation for 2018, we are holding an information evening for our 2018 Preschool and 2018 Transition families. This evening will allow families to visit the Preschool and Transition learning spaces, hear about the programs, hints and tips to make the transition to school that much easier. New Preschool families can also pick up enrolment packs and set up an enrolment interview time at the information evening. 2018 Transition Information Session: Thursday 23rd November, 4.30pm – 5.30pm 2018 Preschool Information Session: Thursday 23rd November, 5.30pm – 6.30pm The teaching teams, Mrs Vincent and I are looking forward to seeing you all there, to begin working together for the success of your child. All our teachers at Durack School are fantastic and a number of them have been nominated for the Apple for Teacher competition through Hot 100. Voting for the teachers also closes this Friday 17th November at 8am. The teacher and class win all sorts of prizes (laptop, iPad, class
party and movie etc.) so support a Durack teacher and get voting. www.hot100fm.com.au
You are already winners to us! We are desperately seeking assistance! Our brand new aquaculture shed is currently sitting empty as we have been unable to find a business who is willing to set up our aquaculture system. We have the plans, the space and the money, but have been unable to find the business to assist us. Do you know of any businesses that might be able to help? Please contact Cathy Kerr, our Business Manager, with any suggestions. We really need this set up for classes next year. Just a reminder that next Friday, 24th November we are holding our Favourite Sports Day. This is a fundraiser to support one of our students, Taelah Smith, to represent the NT in the 12yrs and under Track and Field Athletics team, competing at the School Sport Australia Pacific School Games in Adelaide from 1st – 10th December 2017. Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite sport and bring in a gold coin donation, which will go towards supporting Taelah to attend this trip. All the best Taelah! Don’t forget to put in your diary our end of year award assemblies: Early Childhood End of Year Assembly (Preschool - Year 2) – Friday 8th December 8.30-10.30am Primary End of Year Assembly (Year 3 - Year 6) – Thursday 7th December 8.30 – 10.30am This week at assembly we have TWO classes presenting items. School Libraries Matter
The School Library Coalition (comprised of seven Australian school library associations) promotes the importance of school libraries to student learning and mastery of skills they need in our modern world. In many schools across Australia, there is no teacher librarian, and the understanding of how the teacher librarian supports teaching staff to improve student learning outcomes can be limited to those who work near them or closely with them. This means that many school communities don’t know what they don’t know about school libraries. What can you do to help? The School Library Coalition has set up a survey for parents which is being shared nationwide to gain insight into the library-related skills students may or may not be learning. Participation is voluntary, but your involvement would be appreciated. It may even lead to you asking how the library is used at our school and providing your feedback directly to the school. Complete the quick survey here, or copy and paste this URL - https://goo.gl/forms/qlAFLSfqSfK6KrdI2.
