Fair Clean Up

Summer 2015 Page 2 OTTAWA COUNTY 4-H FAMILY NEWSLETTER

4-H Organizational Advisors will receive a letter from the Cultivate the Clover Committee asking for auction items for the 4-H Auction planned for Saturday, October 24 at the Camp Perry Clubhouse. We are in need of donations. Please consider donating an item so that we can raise money for the Ottawa County 4-H Program. Donated items may be combined with like items to create a themed basket. This money is also used for college scholarships. Scholarships will be presented to two Ottawa County 4-H members.

The event this year will include a catered dinner along with a fun night of fellowship. A silent auction will begin at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:00 p.m. and a grand auction following dinner. We will have a special guest this year as a MC for the evening. Tickets for the auction are available for $20.00 and may be purchased from the Extension Office or from one of the committee members listed below. Cultivate the Clover Committee Members: Shelly Asmus Marilyn & Dan Mohr Carol Benner Lisa Molnar Kelly Card Kevin & Mary Beth Mylander Diane Dickinson Paulette & Lyle Oberhaus Kathy Giesler Jody Regal Ann King Kathryn Wilka Nancy Lajti

We are looking for 4-H Clubs to volunteer their time during the week of the fair to help clean up after livestock shows in the show barn. As most of us know there are many shows held throughout the fair and with each show comes a little mess. We are asking for two clubs to give their time after each livestock show to clean up trash, wipe down bleachers, and assist with setting up the show arena for the next show.

Brooms, buckets, and rags will be provided. Since the work will be somewhat dirty, we suggest you bring your own gloves for sanitary purposes. Unfortunately because of the show ending times being flexible there is not a set time that each show will be over. At the conclusion of the show your club will be paged to the show barn. Please contact Janene Lattimore (419-656-5845) to sign up for a time.

Good sportsmanship is about playing by the rules, discipline, respect, and self-control. A good sport has fun because they enjoy participating in the activity more than the final outcome. As we approach the judging and fair season, remember to be a good sportsman. Whether you are taking a food and nutrition project, showing a steer, or running for a position on the 2015 fair royalty court, remember to show pride in yourself and your project by playing fair and showing respect to not only yourself but to those who are competing against you.

Here are some good sportsmanship tips to remember for the next few weeks. 1. Show respect to yourself by treating others the way you want to be treated. 2. Respect the rules of the activity and project by always playing fair. 3. Offer encouragement to other participants, especially when they make mistakes. 4. Forgive yourself when you make a mistake and get right back in the game. 5. Lose without pouting and win without gloating.
