What is Océ WPD Cleaning ToolOcé WPD Cleaning Tool is a standalone executable file.

Its name is ocewpd_clean.exe. Its size is less than 900KB.

Definition

The goal of the Cleaning Tool is to provide you with a troubleshooting utility.

This utility removes, on a workstation, all the leftovers of previous unclean installations of OcéWPD printer drivers. It applies to both printer drivers: WPD 1.x, and WPD2 v2.x.

Use the Cleaning Tool:• when you encounter problems at Océ WPD printer driver installation.• when the installation method used to install the previous Océ WPD printer driver is unknown.• when the 'Setup' and the 'Add-a-printer' installation methods were used on a same

workstation to install the Océ WPD printer driver.• after you uninstall the Océ WPD printer driver due to an incorrect behaviour.

You make sure that no problem remains on your workstation.

NOTE:Océ WPD Cleaning Tool ONLY applies to the Océ WPD printer drivers (WPD 1.x and WPD2v2.x). Any other printer drivers, from Océ or another company, remains unchanged.

Example of a 'WPD-clean' workstation

When your workstation is 'WPD-clean', there are no leftovers from previous unclean Océ WPDprinter driver installations. You can install a new version of the printer driver.

Manual cleaning: impossible to install Océ WPD with the setupmethod (Setup error)

Description

It is possible that you cannot install, or upgrade, the Océ WPD printer driver with the [InstallationWizard] (setup.exe). This situation remains even after you run the Océ WPD Cleaning Tool.

The setup prevents the installation of Océ WPD.

It displays the following error message: "A remote printer is already using this driver. Localinstallation or upgrade is not allowed." However, no driver is currently installed on thisworkstation.

Cause

This is due to a previous installation of a shared driver (on a print server). The shared driver wasun-correctly removed by the Operating System.

Océ WPD Cleaning Tool reports you this information under the "Active connections to Printserver" entry (see next illustration).

Océ WPD Cleaning Tool cannot correct the issue. You need to perform a manual action.

To do so, refer to the next procedure (or follow this link to access to the online procedure: "http://global.oce.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?q=20874&t=Kbonly#tab2")

1. On the workstation, as an Administrator user, search for the following registry key : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client SideRendering Print Provider\Servers\xxx(where xxx stands for the hostname or IP address of the former server).

2. Delete the registry key.3. Run the Cleaning Tool again to check the removal of the registry key.

The "Active connection to Print server" entry is now empty. You can try a new installation, orupgrade, of the Océ WPD with the [Installation Wizard] (setup method).

Limitation of Océ WPD Cleaning Tool: Print Spoolererror

Description

After you run Océ WPD Cleaning Tool, the spooler stops and does not restart.

You get an error message when:• You try to use a printer from your workstation.• You try to access the [Printing Preferences...] or the [Properties] of a printer.• You try to add a printer on your workstation.

Cause

During the cleaning process Océ WPD Cleaning Tool can have to stop and then restart the PrintSpooler. This enables a thorough cleaning of the workstation.

On low performance platforms, it is possible that the Print Spooler does not restart automatically. This is due to an exceeded time-out.

1. From your workstation, as an Administrator user, open: • on Windows XP and Vista: [Control Panel]→[Administrative Tools]→[Services (Local)].• on Windows 7: [Control Panel]→[System and Security]→[Administrative Tools]→[Services

(Local)].2. Select the [Print Spooler] line.3. Right-click and select [Restart].
