Encourage One Another Is there anyone among us who has not felt deeply discouraged at some time in his life? Discouragement seems to be the lot in life of one who tries to live for God or accomplish anything in His Name. The Old Testament prophet Elijah became so discouraged about doing God’s work and about life in general he "went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.’" (I Kings 19:4NIV) I guess everyone experiences some of these "I’ve-had-enough" times when one difficulty piles on top of another and there seems to be scant hope for better days. The Lord wants to encourage you through His Word and through His people. Romans 15:5 refers to our Lord as the God who gives endurance and encouragement and tells us "everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." Faith teaches us God loves us and works through all our lives to bring about the very best for us. We may not understand what God is doing with us but we believe He is preparing us for an eternal life of unmixed joy and peace in His Presence. I do not presume to claim I comprehend the purpose behind some of the events He permits or initiates but I take consolation in knowing He understands suffering, having suffered Himself while in the flesh. At times, I simply must trust His love. Scott and the Brand family come to mind. Although not discouraged, they are facing very discouraging circumstances. I don’t blame God for all the bad things happening in their lives. There are other forces at work in our world today. However, I am confident God will use all things, good and bad, to bring about His will, glory, and blessing. In the meantime, be confident, as Scott and I are, that the Lord will restore his health and vigor and allow him to resume his ministry here. He will be encouraged if you pray with this conviction in your heart and remain faithful to God. Let’s work extra hard for God so when Scott recovers he will find a growing, vibrant congregation worthy of his leadership. In the end, Elijah found the strength and courage to go on to some great victories because he resorted to God for help. The Scriptures are full of stories of men and women who, having come to the end of their own strength. found endurance and encouragement in God. We all need encouragement at one time or another. My prayer for you, as well as for Scott and his family, is this; May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, . . . encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word." II Thessalonians 2:16, 17.

NEW MANAGER AT SYLVAN HILLS
The new camp manager at Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp is Chris Miller. Sharing this ministry at Sylvan Hills are his wife Amy and children Ashe and Hannah. They have come to Sylvan Hills from Scottdale (southeast of Pittsburgh), where Chris was Assistant Minster at Life Church in Greensburg, PA. His main duties were worship leader and youth minister. Chris is an only child, has lived most of his life in Scottdale, and graduated from Mt. Carmel Christian School. He received a Business Management degree from Penn State and a Masters in Practical Ministries from Cincinnati Christian University. While attending Cincinnati, he also had a preaching ministry at a church in Aurora, IN. After seminary, Chris accepted a position as Assistant Director at Camp Christian in Mill Run, PA, where he had been a camper for several years. Chris and Amy met at Camp Christian when she was hired for part-time summer grounds maintenance. Amy was born in Gallitzin, PA, and, as the daughter of a minister, has lived several places. She is the youngest of five children – she has three brothers and one sister. Amy also attended Christian camps as a youngster. She graduated from Penn Cambria High School in Cresson, PA, and then from Sandford-Brown Institute in Pittsburgh as a Veterinary Technician. She presently is a stay-at-home mom with Ashe, who is thirteen, and Hannah, who is five months. Ashe likes anything mechanical or electronic, and video games. He will be in eighth grade and plans to do cyber school this year. He says he likes Sylvan Hills, especially the hammock in back of the house. Hannah smiles easily and is not shy with new people. She likes to eat and nap. Chris and Amy both enjoy outdoor activities – camping, fishing, canoeing, golf, tennis, and skiing. Chris also enjoys music and plays guitar. They are excited for the opportunity to serve together in camp ministry and view this position as a whole family ministry. Chris also stated that after camp season he plans to visit the area churches to get better acquainted and to promote the camp programs. We are pleased to welcome our new staff at Sylvan Hills and ask that you take the opportunity to meet them.

4:15 p.m. show of Jonah. The cost will be approximately $115 per person. This covers the cost of travel, a home-style meal before the show and the show ticket. We will stop on the way home at a fast food restaurant
