DEAR LITTLE CHAPEL ON THE BOARDWALK FAMILY: I hope that by now you have received the Stewardship Commitment packet which included a pledge card, and that you have had the chance to look it over and have begun to pray about your giving for 2017. Our Stewardship Commitment Sunday will be November 6. We are calling it “Reconnect for Blessings on the Beach”. We are going to have just one service that day, at 10:30AM so everyone can “reconnect” with those persons they haven’t seen for a while due to some who always go to the beach service and some who always go to the 10:30AM service. In addition there will be a “TALENT FAIR” set up in the fellowship hall that will allow you the opportunity to see all the programs and ministries that are taking place at Little Chapel and YOU will have the chance to sign up and be a part of those programs. I hope you will make every effort to join us on Sunday, November 6 as it will be a wonderful day of celebration. In the third chapter of 2 Corinthians, Paul writes: “You are a letter of Christ…written by the Spirit of God upon the heart…known and be read by everybody!” Do you understand those words from Paul? YOU, personally are a letter of our Lord and WE, together, Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church are a letter of Christ – sent to your families and communities with the love of God. Each one of us is a letter of Christ. We are sent by God to help and encourage the people in our lives. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we “sign the letter” confirming our discipleship in the area of our stewardship commitment to our Lord’s ministry. In a fuller sense, when Paul says, “You are a letter of Christ, he is referring to the entire congregation in the town of Corinth – all of the believers, together. “We, the church, are a letter of Christ.” During our fall Stewardship campaign, everyone is being asked to consider the spiritual letter of your own life, reflect on its contents and then prayerfully consider your role as part of the greater letter of our church. Let us sow generously and contribute according to what God has given us, with cheerful hearts and substantial commitment, to what God is doing through us, together. MUSIC NEWS NOVEMBER 2016

AN AFTERNOON TO REMEMBER

Thanks to all LCOB members who attended David’s Organ Concert last month at Kenan Chapel at Landfall. The special afternoon of organ mu-sic played on the Taylor and Boody tracker organ was capped off by a wonderful reception at the Landfall Country Club. Extra-special thanks

to Reuben Allen for arranging for David to be on the 2016 Concert Series!

WILMINGTON ORGAN GUILD HYMN-FESTIVAL

You are cordially invited to attend and participate in the Wilmington American Guild of Organists Hymn-Sing-Festival on Sunday November 13, 2016. This popular event only comes around once in a while and is a great way to join a congregation of people who love to sing hymns!

The Festival will be played by chapter members, includ-ing David Lee Heinzman, who will present his own hymn arrangement of “Crown Him with Many Crowns.” Other chapter members will continue with the liturgical themes of All Saints, Thanksgiving and Christ the King.

The Festival will begin at 4:00 PM at St. John’s Episco-pal Church, 1219 Forest Hills Drive, Wilmington and is free and open to all. Come, bring your voice and Praise the Lord!

CANTATA REHEARSALS CONTINUE

Rehearsals for this years’ Christmas Cantata continue every Thursday evening in the choir room. As in the past, Cantata music is rehearsed first from 7:00 – 7:45, with the remainder of the rehearsal time devoted to Sun-day music. There is still time to join as a choir “extra.” Please see David if you are interested.

Note:

There will be no music fellowship dinner in November due to Thanksgiving.

MUSIC

For the common things of every day,

God gave men speech in the common way.

And He gave to the poet words to reveal

The deeper things men think and feel.

But for heights and depths no word could reach,

God gave men Music – the soul’s own speech.

LITTLE CHAPEL PRESCHOOL GARDEN

The Little Chapel Preschool would like to thank Anne Martz and Betty Gischel for helping them with their garden area around the preschool sign outside on Lumina Street. The children have planted the Mums and are now learning to take care of their plants. They have become very serious gardeners and it shows.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN Oh how the wind did howl and the rain came down during Hurricane Matthew!

The women we will visit with at our November Circles remind me of the many wonderful things that are hap-pening now in response to the needs of our neighbors who have suffered so much loss.

Rebekah reminds us to be kind, Rachel has a loving heart and Elizabeth is an example of the gift of encour-agement. All of these traits come into play when we open our arms and hearts to a community or even just one person in the throes of recovering from devasta-tion.

A smile goes such a long way! Take a peek at your yellow PW Handbook for where and when we will gather to celebrate these women.

Join us at a Circle meeting!

Sunday, November 6 is Stewardship Sunday at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk and we hope that every mem-ber will attend the 10:30AM Worship Service that day. We will not be having an early service in the hopes that you will have a little extra time in your morning to stay after 10:30AM Worship to meet and greet in the fellow-ship hall and discover new ways to get involved. We will have tables set up as information booths for you to pe-ruse. Perhaps you have read about a group at Little Chapel, but didn't know quite what it entailed to offer your time. November 6 is the day to ask all your ques-tions. It's also the morning that we ask you to reach into your heart and pledge your gifts to help Little Chapel contin-ue to grow. When you pledge it enables the Staff and Church Officers to budget appropriately and plan for the future. We are fortunate to have such wonderful leaders, let's show them our support as we pledge our gifts on Stewardship Sunday. 100% pledge participation is our goal! If you have any questions or want to know how your ideas can be presented that day in fellowship hall, please contact us.

Thanks so very much for all that you do already! Brian Ennis and Marie Godsell

BLOOD DRIVE

On Sunday, November 13, 2016, Little Chapel on the Boardwalk will host a Blood Drive conducted by the American Red Cross. This will take place in the fellow-ship hall from 9:00AM—1:00PM. Our goal is 30 par-ticipants. Contact: Joyce Zimmerman, 910-256-9672

JOY OFFERING NOVEMBER 27

The Christmas Joy Offering celebrates the "wondrous gift of God" with us. In gratitude to God for the won-drous gift of Jesus, the Presbyterian Church (USA) in-vites us to join the celebration of God's presence with us by supporting those in need of help and hope. Half of the Joy Offering helps fund the Assistance Pro-gram of the Board of Pensions, which provides current and retired church workers with the help they need to go through life's unexpected challenges. We are honor-ing those who serve and have served us well. The other half supports education at Presbyterian related racial ethnic schools and colleges promoting a commitment to higher learning and leadership development for all stu-dents regardless of race or economic standing. Please consider giving to the Christmas Joy Offering this Advent season on Nov. 27, in gratitude to God for the wondrous gift of Jesus. Thank you!

TILESTON OUTREACH has a new name!

As cooler weather approaches, The Sister Isaac Cen-ter has requested fall/winter clothing for all ages, warm bedding, blankets and sleeping bags. OCTOBER SESSION HIGHLIGHTS

On Commitment Sunday, November 6, church

officers and committees will have displays in the fellowship hall to highlight their mission and activ-ities. Volunteers will be encouraged to sign up for committees that they are interested in joining. Due to this Talent Fair, there will be only one worship service on that day, at 10:30AM.

The Nominating Committee is tasked with the responsibility of securing elders and deacons for the upcoming three years. The congregation is encouraged to submit nominations for considera-tion by this committee.

The Session approved LCOB as a temporary warehouse location to be utilized for disaster relief assistance. Supplies will continue to be collected and delivered to appropriate locations for use by victims of the recent flooding due to Hurricane Matthew.

Those wishing to make financial contributions to the Presbyterian relief efforts may submit a check made payable to LCOB and memo'd to hurricane relief assistance. Gift cards can also be purchased and donated for those needing assistance more quickly.

The Property Committee reported that our facili-ties weathered the hurricane remarkably well, with only some minor storm-related roof issues, but these did not need immediate attention.

Our youth participated in a retreat at Ft. Caswell, September 30 - October 2. (DNOW)

The youth and children of the church will travel to Hallsboro, NC for the Maze Craze Family Outing on October 23 following worship. They will enjoy a picnic lunch followed by the maze, hayrides and games.

The youth and children have partnered with Spring Arbor of Wilmington Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility to provide fellowship and build intergenerational relationships with its resi-dents and our youth and children. On Sunday, October 30, they will share our Halloween and All Saints Day Celebration, with the children wearing their Halloween costumes as they travel to Spring Arbor by trolley, bringing along their joy and en-thusiasm

Presbyterian Counseling Center

CENTERPOINT Recently I wrote an article addressing some of the issues a young couple marrying for the first time is likely to face. This month, I would like to address some issues a couple entering a second marriage may encounter. People in mid-life have a lot of history. Part of the marriage contract is to accept your partner’s history without resent-ment.

Couples marrying for a second time often have established careers and have acquired property and other assets. While they may not seem very romantic, pre-nuptial agreements are more and more common. Finances should be thor-oughly discussed.

Blending families is a challenging and complex aspect of re-marriage. Many people do it quite successfully. Stepparent/stepchild relationships can be close and nurturing and co-exist lovingly with natural parent/child relationships. How-ever, this may require time, patience and understanding.

Pre-marital counseling can be as helpful for a couple enter-ing a second marriage as it can be for a young couple marry-ing for the first time. Call 452-7370, and visit the Center: www.presbyteriancounselingcenter.org

HEIFER PROJECT

“LIVING GIFT MARKET”

Giving Life-Changing Gifts to Families in Need

This Christmas season let’s all get in the spirit of Christmas by giving to families, world-wide, who are suffering from hunger and poverty. Please circle November 27 on your calendars, and plan to do your Christmas shopping at our “Living Gift Market”.

At the market, you “buy” alternative gifts of farm animals that are sent by Heifer International to impoverished, rural families around the world, including the US. These animals provide both food and income. Families are, also, given technical training. The best part is each family receiving a Heifer Project animal “passes on the gift” by giving an offspring of their animal to another family in need.

Friends and family, whom you honor by purchasing gift of animal(s) will be given an attractive gift card from you, ex-plaining the gift given in their name.

The Fellowship will be transformed into a festive market place with tables set to represent each of the animals. If you or a group would be willing to be in charge on one of the tables, (decorate it, maybe provide a craft for the children and be at the table during the market), please sign up in the narthex.

See you at the “Living Gift Market” Sunday, November 27 (date changed from Dec. 4)

CHURCHES AND

PARKING METERS

Living on or close to Wrightsville Beach and hav-ing to deal with parking meters, I am sure we have all done this at one time or another. You are cruising around looking for an empty space, it’s your lucky day as you spot two or three empty spaces down the line. Low and behold, one still has some time left on the meter. That’s the one for you. The driver before you left before the time ran out on the meter. You not only found an empty space (something that is hard to do in the summertime), but you were able to park free on someone else’s dime! Every church has people who “park on someone else's dime”. You can probably think of some now in our church. They enjoy the privileges, benefits and the fellowship, but don’t support the church according to their proportionate ability. Parking on “someone else’s dime” at a parking meter is all right, but parking on someone else’s support of the church is not. Responsible Christians follow Biblical principals in providing for their church. However, some members are still learning. If you are among them, ponder and pry over this question: “What does the Lord expect me to give of my time, talents and treasure in faithfulness to Him and to Little Chapel on the Boardwalk this year? True, you can park on someone else’s dime or you can join those who know that the Lord requires each of us a positive gracious response to the ongoing work pf this church and the build-ing up of His kingdom.

IN THE MAIL Dear Little Chapel Staff & Members, Thank you very much foe allowing friends to use your parking lot on Saturday night September 17. The party was held at our house on Augusta Street. We have visited your church many times with my parents Dody & Bill Warren (deceased) and with our friends. And have made previous donations in memory of your members or families.

Kindly, Susan Prichett

Dear Little Chapel, Please let the community know just how much your donations of bags of linens, housewares, toiletries and shoes are appreciated by those in need. We’ve served record numbers in September and your car-ing and thoughtfulness helped us so much.

Lots of prayers—and we count on yours! Blessings & Peace, S.M. Isaac

Dear Friends, Thank you for your donation to Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. Your kindness helps us provide a safe haven and critical services for indi-viduals and families fleeing the violence in their own homes. Please know that you are making a difference in the lives of victims, as they start lives free of violence and fear. Your gift is greatly appreciate.

Sincerely, Mary Ann Lama, Executive Director

ELECTION PRAYERS

As Election Day (November 8) approaches, many recognize the urgent need for prayer. While it is important to pray for our country and its leaders at all times, the upcoming election has brought re-newed calls for prayer. Many of us are concerned about the coarseness of our society and the lack of attention to and concern for the traditional values of our country. In the words of Dr. Tony Evans, "The more we sideline God, the worse things will become." Surely our prayers for our country and for God's will for us as a nation are sorely needed at this time in our history.

The following Scripture summarizes God's com-mand for us: "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I

will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14) In so many ways, our land is in need of healing.

As the people of God, let us all be in prayer for our country, its leaders and its citizens. Our sanc-tuary is always open, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, week-days. We encourage prayer, which can be done in any circumstance, but if you feel led to come into God's house for prayer, we encourage you to do that!

May our loving and merciful God lead us all and bless our beloved country!

HURRICANE MATTHEW COLLECTIONS

Once again the Little Chapel and our neighbors on Wrightsville Beach heard the call and answered by filling up the narthex with food, water, baby supplies, pet supplies and

various other items for those who were impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

These items were delivered to the Leland Fire and Rescue on Friday, October 14 and distributed to those who were devastated by the storm and in immediate need.

Thank you everyone who donated and volunteered!

THANK YOU BILL & JOHN

A special thank you to Bill Miller and John Moore for setting up the sound system for the beach ser-vice. They were out on the beach at 7:15AM every Sunday, May through October to make sure we had sound.
