WHAT IS KINESICS?- It is known as body language.-According to Desmond Morris (1979), communication depends heavily on the actions, postures, movements and expression of our bodies

Similarities in actions

Business setting • When greeting, hands should not be in the pocket – disrespectful• Removing hat when talking or entering someone’s office• Don’t show your back to other people when speaking• Standing up is to show respect (Usually to the people with higher status)

Social setting• Visiting someone – knock and wait for someone to come and open

the door for you• Don’t sit until they ushered you the seat• Don’t show your back to other people when speaking

Similarities in eye contact

Business setting Eye contact is very important to show your confidence and you are ready to listen.

Social setting Eye contact is not important as some people are not comfortable with it especially when someone constantly looks at them in the eye without interruption.(It shows that you are suspecting something)

Example: When your are on a date with your boyfriend. How do you feel if he keep on looking at you in the eye? The first thought that probably came through your mind is ‘Is my makeup horrible or does he already know the secret I kept from him?’

• It’s normal to shake hand with the same gender. (male & male / female & female)

• Handshake is not allowed with opposite gender, elderly and married individuals.

Kissing on the cheek is not allowed at first meeting but for the second meeting, it is allowed for both gender.

Kissing on the cheek are absolutely not allowed for both gender in a formal situation.
