Easter Hampers

Thank you to all families who have donated prizes and bought raffle tickets back. We are still accepting donations and more books are available from the office. Remember each book is worth $10 so make sure you write on both sides of the tickets.

Dental Van

Thank you to all the families who followed up with the dental notes for students to have their teeth checked. It has been a really positive experience for all. After the initial checks, Bendigo Health are now completing up any further work.

2022 Enrolments

We are already getting enquiries for 2022 prep enrolments. In term 2, we will commence our Early Start 2022 prep program on Fridays from 1.45-3pm with Monique (who is an Early Childhood teacher and our current grade 3 teacher). This will provide opportunities for children to become familiar with the school over a longer period of time. To be eligible all you need to do is complete an enrolment form before starting. We look forward to meeting our 2022 prep students very soon.

The school is required to follow the state-wide enrolment placement policy and processes. This ensures eligible students have a right to attend their designated neighbourhood school, (the school that is nearest to the student’s permanent residential address, measured in a straight line from the residence as per the find my school website www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au ).

Whole school Cross Country

Our school cross country will be held on the last day of term - Thursday 1st April at Lake Tom Thumb.

All students prep- grade 6 will participate. Students will dress in their House colours of:

Ashman (blue) named after Basil Ashman (Eaglehawk football legend)

Miller (red) named after Lola Miller (fondly known as ‘Mrs Eaglehawk or ‘Queen of Eaglehawk)

Sword (yellow) named after Kirsty Sword (student at Eaglehawk Primary who became the First lady of East Timor)

Symons (green) named after William John Symons (Student at Eaglehawk Primary who won the Victoria Cross medal)

Students will walk to Lake Tom Thumb, participate in the cross Country and walk back to school. We anticipate leaving by 9.30am and returning to school by 11am.The prep/1/2 classes will run 1 lap, the 3/4 classes 2 laps and the 5/6 classes 3 laps. Children are encouraged to wear their house colours (they will be reminded of their house colour prior) instead of school uniform.

We will need helpers on the day to encourage students and be checkpoints around the lake. Please contact the office if you are able to assist.

As the Education Department requires consent every time the students leave the school grounds, notes will be sent home this week to be signed and returned.

Walking School Bus

Next term we will recommence our walking school bus. Last year we met at the milk bar at 8am and all walked to school together.

25 nights of reading Well done to Mackenzie B and Eli T from the Prep room who have completed 25 nights of reading. Fantastic work!

In The Classroom:

Year 3/4 Blurb:

Our school week has been filled with great learning and many brilliant achievements. We are well into our writing unit on narrative writing and students are beginning to embed some impressive adjectives and verbs into their writing to help the reader visualise the story. We have really focused hard on 'dressing up our sentences' - just like when Cinderella is turned into a princess - we have been carefully selecting sentences in our writing and transforming them into something even better! We encourage students to continue to notice great vocab used in books they are reading which can then be translated into their writing... You can help by noticing great 'book language' at home too! Great work, year 3/4!

Year 5/6 News

In writing we are learning to structure the complication paragraph, including a subordinate clause, a response to the problem and a plan on how to tackle the complication. Our reading focus will be synthesising and analysing the text to find information. We will discuss characters within the story and how they change. In Maths we will continue to investigate the connection between decimals, percentages and fractions and how to use the in real life situations.

Art Class.

Grade 3 – 6 students had a lot of fun during the week painting doily colour wheels. This activity gave stu-dents the chance to apply paint and blend the paint whilst still wet. There will be time again this week for students to try this out if they didn’t get the chance to last week. Grade 1 – 2 students will also be experimenting with paint this week as part of our theme of colour. Preps participated in a celery stick stamp painting to create rainbow fish, these are dry now and ready to take home in our next lesson. All students are to be commended on their sensible approach to the painting activities.

Performing Arts.

Every Wednesday during lunch eating time, one of the music classes will be performing a short item for the rest of the school. So far, Grade 5/6 D have performed a bucket drumming routine to 'We Will Rock You’, Grade 1/2 S and 1/2 J have demonstrated an African stone game to the song 'Obwisana' and the grade 3/4 recorder group have played two of the pieces they have been learning. The performances are a way for students to share some of the activities they have explored during music, and are an easy introduction to performing in front of others. Pictured are Grade 3 and 4 Recorder Group.
