Tahlia BennettYear 10 MOOD PAINTING My main objective in this design is to portray a calm and peaceful small Japanese village using water colour paint. Focusing on the art element of realism, I used perspective for depth and composition for I chose this idea as I have a personal interest in the Japanese culture which has inspired me.

Sora YanagiYear 9 Symbols were used in the form of many different patterns, inspired from native art styles. I used patterns such as spirals (representing a journey, whether that be life or nature or something else), Japanese Seigaiha or waves (representing resilience and good luck and my Japanese background) and circles (representing the self, eternity and wholeness). This combined with a use of colour helped to represent myself through my art.

Sophie HolmickYear 11 UNDER THE OCEAN A patterned painting with mainly cool colours composed to resemble an ocean. The use of line, tone, texture, colour and pattern is in the formal context of the work. Curving black lines and shorter white ones show the fluidity of the ocean it’s depicting. Tone is used with the black lines fading into the lighter colours to show off the waves highlights, creating shadows. Visual texture is made through the colour with the contrast between white and black making the waves crawn on one another. The colours themselves are a mixture of blues and greens with hints of purple, yellow and pink and the pattern of the lines is meant to make a simplified ocean.

MaeveSymonsYear 11 I decided to settle on the idea of activists maybe being hypocrites for this artwork. From there I hoped to intrigue the audience by engaging them with my style and straight forward message. I tried to keep each project / artwork clear and concise but allowing certain things up to interpretation such as the mask on the character. I also used a simple colour palette on my first artwork and my last, as to not diverge the message away with absurd colours.

Rhiannon RobertsYear 12 THE ANXIOUS ALIEN ‘The Anxious Alien’ was created using Animation and editing software, stock video overlays, the Intuos Wacom Tablet and a Canon Camera provided by V Block. By using this equipment and software, ‘The Anxious Alien’ engages with the audience through a contemporary and abstract platform. The intention behind developing ‘The Anxious Alien’ was to depict some of the emotions and atmosphere surrounding school life through an animated music video to the song ‘Pacman’ by Gorillaz. ‘The Anxious Alien’ heavily draws inspiration from Vewn’s unstable and abstract animation style and the satire commentary of social injustices by Mark Bryan. The animation was developed to recreate the appearance of a video game, this approach was chosen as it displays the aspects of a student’s day through video game levels to be completed.

Lino is used in my global commentary piece to convey the message about different opinions create negativity when they are clashed. My intention for this piece is to convey the message in a subtle but understandable way, it’s also intended to give the viewer a wider perspective on the topic.

Avery ArmstrongYear 12 DISSIDENCE The environment in the city is a constant clash between things made by man and things made by nature. Even the very foundations of the area - the roads and concrete, the pipes and wires, were once areas of nature that were smothered by what people make themselves. In the same area, you can see nature seeping through the cracks of the urban environment, whether that be metaphorical with parks and gardens, or in a more literal sense, with weeds growing through the cracks in the pavement. The two aspects of the environment can clash at times.

Paige GreerYear 12 UNTITLED 1 Untitled 1 explores the idea of monotonous pessimism through the mundane white-collar figure seen holding an umbrella above their head, blocking the rain of colourful men. This can be interpreted in many ways, either simply for visual aesthetic, or the deeper idea that society has conformed to an assortment of zombies. It’s undeniable the occurrence of one stepping out of their comfort zone is rare, thus the colourful surroundings symbolising new/out of the ordinary experiences that the stiff man is shielding, displaying the obsession we all possess regarding the opinions of those around us forcing us to conform to society’s ‘idealistic’ person with no imperfections. Through my 3D work, I created more of these figures, ranging ages and sexes to show that we can all be hypnotically mundane.
