SCHOOL COUNCIL PRESIDENT’S REPORT On last Wednesday evening, our Principal, John Mooney and myself met with our Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, Mr James Merlino, upon his invitation to discuss a proposal that our School Council had lodged requesting a four stage building program to modernize our Junior/Senior Campus.
We met with the Minister along with Ms Gabrielle Williams, the State Member for Dandenong; Mr Chris Keating, Chief Executive Director of The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and Ministerial Advisors, Melissa Box and Chris Carpenter.
Our four stage proposal involves:
1. A multipurpose gym, south east back corner
2. The construction of a two storey structure on top of our three current school wings and our central courtyard.
3. The development of our remaining playground area.
4. The installation of traffic lights and electrical pedestrian crossing at the front gate, Heatherton Road.
Mr Merlino has asked John Mooney to forward a paper on some of the key issues that were discussed. He expressed a wish to visit Emerson soon. We will be extending a formal invitation as soon as possible.
We were very happy with the content and tone of the meeting. We are optimistic that our presentation will be favourably received. We are very grateful to our local member, Gabrielle Williams MP, who arranged this meeting. Thank you Gabrielle.
HEATHER NORMAN President, Emerson School Council

Today is the last round games for Interschool Hockey and Soccer. Throughout the term it has been great to see the
improvement in the players on the field. These skills include team work, sportsmanship, passing, scoring opportuni-
ties, movement around the field and positive communication between players.
Off the field the interactions between Emerson students and students from other schools has increased. There is
constant chatter between groups and the teachers from other schools have been making positive comments about the
manners of the Emerson students.
Next week will be our all day Soccer and Hockey carnival. We are all very excited to attend this great day and we
hope the weather will be kind to us too.
The Sports Staff would like to thank the students for their hard work this term and wish them all the best for next week.
