Blue Mountains and Lithgow Air Watch Our school is one of a several schools that have students who are part of the Blue Mountains and Lithgow Air Watch, a community initiated study run by the EPA to monitor the air quality in our region.
A group of 15 KPS student volunteers give up their lunchtimes to be part of the project. The Blue Mountains News, a new digital newspaper, came to school last week and interviewed the students about the project. Have a look at the article here: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/thebluemountainsnews/blue-mountains-air-quality-monitoring-underway/news-story/dd47a2a35bd17fe1b8f2d467678c726f?fbclid=IwAR1eyyZsWMMW1heAq2pLxMObcseaJTCSaknofHwlDzCaN_itWKKuviO5L-8

Last Wednesday SQID Squad went down to the Stormwater Quality Improvement Device to see what had been washed down
the drain in Katoomba.
This is what we found: A plant pot, some milk cartons, lots of plastic bags, lots of leaves, hundreds of bits of foam, a hair
dye bottle, lots of plastic takeaway containers, hard plastic food containers for strawberries and other fruit, a sardine and a
tuna can, lots of drink cans, a few handballs, a golf ball, plastic soy sauce fish, lolly wrappers from Halloween, a few cigarette
butts, lots of soft drink cans, chip packets, a balloon, popper cartons, big plastic bags, a few Christmas baubles, lots of coffee
cup lids made of plastic, plastic wrappers for all sorts of food, plastic fruit
nets, lots of foil rolled into balls, lots of bits of foil, sticker packets, a dog
bowl, broken glass, a clothes peg, a brick, and a plastic bird spike like the
ones the cockatoos pull off!
Phew! That was a lot of stuff and there was lots more that we didn’t even
get a chance to look at!

First up, thank you to everyone who came along for the information session on Wednesday at the RSL. It was great to see some new faces in the mix - something we always need as many of the volunteers have older children now and are thinking of stepping aside.
Hopefully all of your questions were answered but if you still have more, or you were unable to make it to the meeting, please feel free to contact me on [email protected]. Ask anything. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll find someone who does!
One question we were asked last week was about the type of jobs P&C volunteers do at the festival. There are four main areas: Welcome Crew - situated in entry areas, you help festival goers find their way, check wristbands and manage
crowds with a smile. Bar Staff - it’s busy, energetic and fun behind the bar. Three hours disappears before you know it! Clean Up Crew - they make sure everything remains pristine and rubbish is placed in the correct bins. Set Up/Pack Down Teams: normally before and after the festival, which means you’re free during the
festival.
See you at pick up time, Rilka Oakley (Mum to Mars and Rome)
15 Weeks To Go to BMMF!
Peace Sculpture Last term Mandy Schone-Salter invited us to be part of
an international artwork in Nurnberg, Germany, by
handing in plastic weapons. Children from around 20
countries surrendered their plastic weapons to build a
large Peace Sculpture in the middle of the
Reichsparteitagsgelande in Nurnberg.
This historical building was significant during World
War 2, where Hitler and his generals planned horrific
crimes against humanity. The Peace Sculpture is now a
symbol of hope and peace for all children around the
world and for their future.
