Keeping our students safe…

Falling off is part of learning to ride bicycles, scooters and skateboards,

so it’s important to know how to keep children safe once they start riding.

Your child’s safety starts with protective gear, safety lessons and riding in

safe places.

Safety basics: bicycles, scooters and skateboards… Here’s a list of safety basics to get you

and your child started on the fun of learning to ride bicycles, scooters and skateboards:

Wear a helmet.

Helmets are compulsory when riding bikes and scooters and recommended when riding

skateboards.

Wearing a helmet will help protect your child against serious head injuries.

A head injury can mean brain injury. That's why it's so important to wear your bike helmet.

Wearing one doesn't mean you can be reckless, but a helmet will provide some protection for

your face, head, and brain in case you fall down.

*Use protective gear and do cycle training to help protect your child against serious injuries – falls

can and do happen. *Teach your child to look carefully at the riding environment to decide

whether it’s safe to ride. *Give your child some practice in a safe area, such as your backyard or a

park, before heading onto the footpath or road.

Always make sure a grown-up is with your child while he/she’s riding, until he/she’s at least 10

years old – no matter how much he/she knows about road safety and how good he/she is at

riding.

…………………………………………………….

Reminder: Parents are required to explain the absences of their children from

school promptly and within seven days to the school. An explanation for absence must be

provided to the school within 7 days of the first day of any period of absence.

Keeping Our students safe You may have noticed that the school gates are being opened just before bell time in the afternoon. This is to

ensure the safety of all our students. If you need to come into school before the gates are opened you are always

welcome to come through the front office. Thank you for your understanding.

Music Festival The preparations and set up have begun for the Blue Mountains Music Festival so please be aware when bringing

your child to school that there are certain areas to avoid. The quad area will be out of bounds both during and

after the Guiness stage set up and the oval will not be used once the Big Top is set up.

This is a wonderful community event and a major fundraiser for our school. The children will be enjoying a free

concert from one of the Festival performers during school hours to thank us for our involvement.

There are still opportunities for volunteering. If you would like a free pass for the festival, you can volunteer for 9

hours over the weekend and receive entry to the festival plus a crew T-shirt!

Please see the website www.bmmf.org.au if you would like more information.

Sport News Swimming Carnival Ribbons will be handed out at tomorrow’s assembly.

Congratulations to all the students who competed in the PSSA District Swimming at Glenbrook

on Friday 21st February.

Special congratulations to Natasha Bedoya for qualifying in the 50m backstroke. She will

represent the Blue Mountains in the upcoming Sydney West Competition. Well done!

High School Sneak Peek Last Thursday, Year 6 walked down to the High School for the Sneak Peek. We were there with lots of other Year Sixes from different schools.

We got to see a few classes like Science, where we set gases on fire and tested the pH of liquids like Coke and vinegar.

Some people quickly went down to the woodshop to see some ADORABLE chicks that Katoomba High had got only that Monday!

KPS went with the Drama and Arts teacher to play some drama games. We saw a really talented band made up of students from KHS and we had a delicious barbeque before going back to school. The Sneak Peek has Year 6 really excited for next year. We can’t wait!

Teddy Update Teddy is almost 6 months old. He graduated last week from Puppy

Pre-School and has learnt to sit, wait and drop. He is also much

better at walking on his lead.

He loves visiting in all the classrooms with the kids and staff. Teddy

is always eager to run on the oval with Laylah and Angus at lunchtime and regularly joins in

fitness activities with our 5/6 classes.

Teddy is a great listener and loves to cheer everyone up and make them smile. He likes being

read to, is a whizz in QuickSmart and wanders around tables to look at children’s writing.

Teddy likes his Library/Lab area to be tidy, no pencils, paper, lunchboxes or

hats left on the floor so he can Zoom quickly around and launch onto bean

bags in his play time. Thanks everyone for keeping this space neat and tidy,

putting your gear in the Connected Classroom and telling Mrs Barrie if

Teddy has picked up something that is not his! If Teddy is on his bed under

Mrs Barrie’s desk that is his break/rest time.

Teddy also likes children to walk up to him and call his name once. He is

learning to listen and focus in small groups or with individual children.

Teddy likes to see who is patting him on the head or back and is learning fast not to jump up.

Thanks Ms Paine for bringing Teddy into our school. We all love him.
