Social Media Issues Late yesterday afternoon, our school was alerted to disturbing content circulating via social media
platforms in the wider community, which included Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram and other social
media feeds, that many of our young people are using. The eSafety Commission is aware of distressing
reports about a video of a suicide circulating social media platforms. eSafety has contacted social
media companies about the reports and will continue working with them to monitor the situation.
The eSafety Commission has asked that Schools exercise discretion in communication about this
incident to students, parents, staff and communities as drawing undue attention to the issue may
cause unnecessary worry or distress and increase exposure. Please avoid the urge of asking your
children if they have seen the video as this will often result in them searching for it online.
We have considerable cybersecurity attached to our school network, so your child/ren’s supervised
online activities are safe while they happen here at school. However, online activities that occur out of
school hours can often impact adversely on relationships between peers and the implications for our
school environment. I ask parents to be wary of your child’s involvement with social media sites. It is my
understanding that to be eligible for an account with Facebook/Snapchat/Tik Tok/Instagram, users
must be older than 13 years of age. I assume that parents are aware of their child’s membership to
such sites if they are members. With the increase in cyberbullying and online predators, I urge parents
to be involved with your child’s online “adventures”. Know who they are communicating with and the
details they are passing on.
If you need support or have questions, some of the following may be of help:
People who encounter this content are encouraged to report it to the social media platform they’ve
seen it on, or to eSafety at www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content.
• If a life is in danger call Triple Zero (000) right now.
• Please encourage anyone who may be at risk or experiencing emotional distress, including worried
family and friends, to contact one of the following services:
Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800. Phone support is there all day, every day. Online support is open from
8am-midnight every day (AEST)
Suicide Callback Service 1300 659 467. Phone support all day,
every day, and follow-up calls.
eHeadspace 1800 650 890. Open 9am-1am daily (AEST).
Lifeline 13 11 14. Phone support all day, every day. Online
support 7pm-4am daily (AEST).
Beyondblue 1300 22 4636. Phone support all day, every day.
Online support 3pm-midnight every day.
Please also note that I have recently been in discussion with the Safe
On Social group to provide practical support and ideas for our
students and community members. Details of this activity for us here
at school will be forthcoming in due course. Thank you for your
support as we work together to keep our young people and
community safe.
Life online works better when people maintain good manners and
treat each other as they'd like to be treated. Talk about this with
your child and it may lead to a decline in bullying behaviour and
disagreements that children have. More safety tips can be found at

Rainbow Colours
Dress-Up Day for our
Buddy Bench This Friday, 11 September, is
our SRC Rainbow Colours
Dress Up Day to help raise
awareness and a fundraiser
for our buddy bench. Students
have been invited to dress up
in rainbow colours for a gold
coin donation and also to
participate in a design
competition to make our
Buddy Bench look better. I
thank the SRC for doing a
great job to enhance this
program in our school. Our
Buddy Bench is a seating
space students can go to if
they don’t have anyone to
play with, and when other
students notice someone
sitting on it, they invite those
sitting to come and join in on
their games. Bilambil PS is a
beautifully inclusive space,
where students seem very
positively engaged with many
friends in the playgrounds and
in our classrooms. The Buddy
Bench is a nice space.
Thank you to all students who
have been busy designing.
The lucky winner will be
announced on Friday .
Good luck and be colourful.

The Multicultural Perspectives Speaking
Competition - Congratulations to our Stage 2 students,
Sophia 3/4T and Eve 4/5V for competing in the Multicultural
Perspectives Speaking Competition! This is an annual competition
that is open for all students from Stage 2 and Stage 3. Both girls have
worked very hard to write and perform a speech, have it videoed
and sent to the Department as part of a National competition. I am
very proud of them both, they each performed compassionate
speeches addressing racism in our country in a confident and
composed manner. Good Luck girls!

Beginning Teachers Professional Placement We are lucky enough to welcome Mrs Aylin Baydar into our
school. Mrs Baydar is a beginning teacher in her third year of
teaching studies at Southern Cross University and will be working
in 1/2P with Miss Ninness and Mrs Preston for the next 2 weeks
and then again for 5 weeks next term.
Interrelate Program for Stage 3 Please be aware for students in Years 5/6 that we had the Inter-
relate program commence this week and that it will run for the
next two weeks. Parents of the children involved may need to
be prepared to engage in discussion about growth and devel-
opment around puberty. Please note that sessions are delivered
by trained professionals from Interrelate.
Gymnastics for Sporting Grants We are very excited to have Springloaded from Banora Point
coming into our school during the next two weeks to run a 3 ses-
sion gymnastics program for every class in our school, following
our successful application for a Sporting Schools grant. Teachers
will let students know the days and times for their sessions. Stu-
dents are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and their
sport uniform on these days.
Athletics Carnival Re-boot As we had to cancel the Colour Run for the last day of term, we
have re-scheduled our running events only Athletics Carnival for
this day, Friday 25 September. It will be a good way to end our
Term 3! More details to come from Mr Touzell and the organising
team.
Kiss and Drop School Pickup Zone Our earlier Kiss and Drop zone pick up time seems to be working
to ease some of the congestion. Parents are reminded of the
following:
Parents with students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, can
arrive to pick up their kids from 2.30pm, as well as older siblings.
Parents with children in Years 3/4/5/6 only are asked to arrive
for pick up after 2.45pm.
1/2B Eager Father’s Day Shoppers
Pirate Fun Day Ahoy me landlubbing
hearties!! Advance warning
that International Talk Like A
Pirate Day is coming up, and
we will have a dress up day on
Thursday 24 September. We
are planning for some fun with
the lingo and I’ll be
threatening a few of the kids
with making them walk the
plank, while they deliver their
very best impressions of
“Aaaarrrgghh!”. The kids will
have a fun time in class with
lots of activities to finish off the
term. It is also a fun food day
for our canteen so the kids
can avoid getting scurvy!!
Details to follow from Danelle
in the canteen. We hope to
see everyone in Pirate clothing
(I have asked them to check
with a parent before they go
tearing up their clothes!!) but
the kids can come in sensible
sun-safe mufti if they prefer.
Let’s finish the term off in a
great way before going on
holidays. So get your pirate
gear on and hoist the
mainsails, ya scurvy dogs!!!!!

NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge This term we are participating in the NSW Premier’s Sporting
Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to encourage
students to participate in sport and physical activity to lead a
healthy lifestyle.
We began in Week 6, (Monday 24 August 2020) and all classes
are monitoring physical activity levels during class time, at
recess and lunch as well as during sport lessons. Physical activity
outside school hours also counts towards the Challenge award.
The aim is to work towards an average at least 60 minutes of
activity a day for ten weeks. Our school will be working towards
a class-based award for K-2 students and an individual student
award for Years 3-6, at the conclusion of the Challenge. We
are also very excited to announce that we have Student
Ambassadors for the first time. Our school leaders George,
Mia, Rigby and Hannah will be taking on this responsibility,
which includes visiting classrooms weekly and updating
physical activity data, promoting the challenge and
organising lunchtime activities.
We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging
students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy
of being active together. Physical activity is valued for its
physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young
people to develop communication skills, confidence and
resilience.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the
Challenge, please contact Mrs Butler who will
be pleased to talk further with you.

Science Day On Friday 18 September, 2020 (Week 9), Bilambil Public School
will be holding a Science Day for the entire school. The day will
consist of rotational activities for each class to participate in
and will showcase the fields of PHYSICS, BIOLOGY and
CHEMISTRY.
Students will have the opportunity to explore biology by using
microscopes to investigate micro organisms, observe and
interact in chemistry demonstrations with a
variety of safe substances and learn about the
integrity of built structures through physics.
It will be a great day!
Thank you,

Stage 3 Careers
Major Project & Expo
Dear Parents/Carers,
Stage 3 students are currently
participating in ‘Become Me’
which is a careers program
that provides students the
opportunity to investigate a
career path that they are
interested in. To complement
this learning, students have
been working at home on
their own personal careers
project.
The students will be presenting
and displaying their projects in
the school hall on Thursday, 17
September 2020( Week 9) for
students throughout the
school to view.
We look forward to seeing the
amazing work they have been
doing and learning about the
incredible range of careers
they have been exploring.

Debating Team Bilambil PS Year 6 debaters
consisting of Cael 5/6E, Tayla
5/6E, Jarah 5/6B and Hannah

position in their second round
debate this morning
(Wednesday 9 September),

A huge thank you to everyone
for their donation of books and
participation in The Great Book
Swap. It was fantastic to see so
many children excited to buy
books and then enjoy reading
with students from 5/6E . A
massive $807.00 was raised for
the Indigenous Literacy Foun-
dation and we could not have
done it without the support of
this wonderful school commu-
nity. A huge thank you to Mrs
Eddy and 5/6E for organising
such an amazing day.

SMILING DADS We hope all our dads, step-
dads, grandparents and
special people who were
lucky enough to receive a
hand-picked gift from our
Father’s Day stall had a
wonderful day on Sunday. We
hoped you loved your present
just as much as we loved
seeing the excitement on the
children’s faces as they
browsed, pondered and
selected something they
believed was just perfect for
you!
UNIFORM SHOP
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We’re in need of some extra
helping hands in our uniform
shop. We’ll provide full training
on how to check for online
orders and pack them ready
to send home. We’re hoping
to get a few extra people
trained up in the uniform shop
ready for the start of the 2021
school year when the uniform
shop gets really busy fitting out
all our new kindy kids, new
enrolments and all those
students who’ve had growth
spurts over the summer.
Please contact Tamara on

MANGO TRAYS ARE BACK! If you missed out on last year’s mangoes we have good news –
we’re bringing them back again very soon! We had so many
comments on how good the mangoes were that we will be sell-
ing 7kg trays of mangoes for $27.
You’ll get about 18 mangoes per tray, and trust us, they’re the
best mangoes you’ll taste all summer! Keep an eye out for the
mango order form that will be coming home in the next couple
of weeks.

THE COUNT IS ON! Our 5c fundraising challenge finished this week. Thank you to all
families who contributed their 5 cent pieces. Every little bit helps
towards the establishment of a fantastic community garden for
our school. Winning classes will announced shortly, once the
counting is completed! Thank you to everyone.
BUSY WITH BIRTHDAYS We’re thrilled that our birthday cupcakes have been a huge
success. Parents are telling us how good it feels not to have to
stress over the task of making enough cupcakes to bring in for
the class. At just $1 per cupcake we can make them on site for
you in whatever colour the birthday boy or girl wishes. However,
we only have a limited number of cupcake tins – and
volunteers – so please place your order early so you don’t miss
out.
Send in your order and money in like you would a lunch order
and just be sure to write down the day you want the cupcakes
delivered. If you’re not sure how many students are in the class
you can send a message to the P&C via our Facebook page.
Don’t forget to order one for your teacher!
TENNIS LESSONS UP FOR GRABS! Keep your eye on our Facebook page for a chance to get
some tennis lessons from a fantastic local tennis coach worth
$70. We’ll be auctioning off the lessons to the highest bidder so
keep a look out and you could ace yourself a bargain!
P&C ZOOM MEETINGS The P&C is currently holding its meetings online via ZOOM.
We’ve changed our meeting day to Tuesdays at 3.30pm on the
3rd and 8th week of Term. P&C meet Tuesday September 8, and
again on October 27. Email the P&C on
