I am delighted to introduce our Autumn 2014 brochure,

which is packed with top-name productions visiting the

New Alexandra Theatre Birmingham this season.

You helped to make our Spring/Summer season one of

the most successful in our history. West Side Story broke

Box Office records in its 3 week stay at the theatre and

Jersey Boys looks set to enjoy similar success as our

Christmas show from 9 December for 4 weeks.

Make sure you get your tickets before they’re gone!

We have now completed auditions for our annual Stage

Experience and once again I was astounded by the talent

and ability of the 300+ young people who turned out to

audition. We are now fully cast for Footloose - so prepare

to cut loose with some of the finest young talent that the

West Midlands has to offer.

We enjoy opening our doors to the public so if you would

like to know more about the New Alexandra Theatre and

see what goes on behind the scenes, why not come along

on one of our backstage tours? If you belong to a group,

we can also arrange private tours, see page 17 for

more details.

We continue to offer access performances to ensure

all patrons can enjoy the world-class shows at the New

Alexandra Theatre, see page 32 for our list of current

access performances and check our website to stay

up-to-date.

Don’t forget about our fabulous offers for ATG Theatre

Card Members - with discounted tickets on many shows

and at the bar, as well as exclusive priority booking.

ATG Theatre Card Members are currently enjoying the

full range of benefits in all 39 ATG venues across the

UK and in the West End.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the New

Alexandra Theatre soon!

welcome

A classic. A landmark. A legend.

The Mousetrap is famous around the world as being the

longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre and

now it’s back by popular demand following a record

breaking sell out week in 2013.

The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country

house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is

a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the

suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the

last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the

motives are finally revealed.

In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has

created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly

intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner.

It’s 1963, and the world is changing. Bobby and laura’s hit single

Dreamboats and Petticoats has not taken off. Norman

and Sue have settled down to non-marital bliss - and a baby!

But ray and Donna seem blissfully happy.

The advent of the Beatles and the Merseyside sound is inspirational.

But will it inspire Bobby and laura to have one more shot at stardom,

Norman to ‘get off the drains’ and find that singing voice he has longed

for, and ray to realise his ambition and manage a really top pop act?

All will be revealed in this follow-up with the same wit,

charm and great songs as Dreamboats and Petticoats.

Many of the songs are from the next period in pop history.

Oscar Wilde’s much loved and brilliantly witty masterpiece

The Importance of Being Earnest features an all-star cast comprising

Rosalind Ayres, Niall Buggy, Patrick Godfrey, Nigel Havers,

Martin Jarvis, Christine Kavanagh, Cherie Lunghi and Siân Phillips

performing as The bunbury Company of players, in a new production

directed by Lucy Bailey, designed by William Dudley with added

material written by Simon Brett, lighting design by Oliver Fenwick,

the composer and sound designer is Tom Mills.

The Importance of Being Earnest is known to elegantly lampoon

the hypocrisies of a victorian society and opens as two bachelors,

the dependable John Worthing, J.p. and upper class playboy Algernon

Moncrieff, feel compelled to create different identities in order to

pursue two eligible ladies Cecily Cardew and gwendolyn fairfax.

The hilarious misadventures which result from their subterfuge;

their brushes with the redoubtable Lady bracknell and the uptight

Adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel

Based on the novel by Harper Lee

Set in the Deep South, Harper Lee’s pulitzer prize-winning

novel sees racial injustice envelop a small-town community.

Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks

the truth, and his feisty daughter, Scout - a young girl on the cusp

of adulthood - brings new hope to a neighbourhood in turmoil.

This utterly enchanting and enthralling production from

london’s award-winning regent’s park Theatre captures the

warmth and poignancy of this best-loved classic with genuine

heart and emotional depth. A story as moving and

magical as you could ever hope to find.
