A Message from Fr. Hynes

The Diocesan Services Appeal (Bishop’s Appeal) is doing well. As of the report on Friday April 5, 733 households in the parish had contributed to the appeal. If every household contributes, we will match or even exceed last year’s total.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED. The annual appeal is vital. It provides the lion’s share of the funds needed to run the Diocese of Palm Beach, which consists of 53 parishes and missions, 14 grade schools, three high schools, and a large Catholic Charities outreach program.

GOOD FRIDAY / HOLY LANDS COLLECTION (Good Friday, April 19th)

For 800 years the Franciscans have ministered to the faithful in the Holy Land as well as living in and caring for the places where Jesus and His Blessed Mother lived and walked. A blessed tradition for most pilgrims is to walk the Via Dolorosa on Good Friday. On Friday, April 19, many will commemorate the Via Crucis, Christ’s Way of the Cross, and take part in Passion services at their local parish.

The wars, unrest and instability in and around the Holy Land have been especially hard on Christians. In many ways they walk the Way of the Cross daily, and the Franciscans of the Holy Land accompany them in their struggle. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides desperately needed assistance and funding for those who have lost everything. When you contribute to the collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.

Your generosity supports housing needs, refugee resettlement, food programs, education, and the maintenance of over 54 shrines in the Holy Land. Thank you for supporting the Pontifical Good Friday Collection with your prayers and your financial generosity.

PETER’S PENCE (Easter Sunday, April 20th / 21st)

Next week, our Diocese will participate in the annual Peter’s Pence Collection. Your donations provide Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters.

The Holy Father invites us to join with him spiritually as we remember them in our prayers, and if we are able, to assist them financially. May we join with Pope Francis as he seeks to share the faith, hope and love of Christ with those in need. “If we allow ourselves to be involved in this loving and trusting relationship with Jesus, we will be able to perform good works that exude the fragrance of the Gospel for the good and needs of our brothers” (Pope Francis, Angelus, August 5, 2018).

In 2018 some of the proceeds raised around the world helped to support a school for hearing impaired children in Rwanda, a pediatric hospital in the Central African Republic, victims of the earthquake in Greece and Ecuador as well as victims of the volcano and tsunami in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Your prayers and your generosity help to transform the lives of many around the world.

Please prayerfully consider how you can best support the collection this year. For more information about the collection, please visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

With gratitude for your continued generosity and every prayerful wish, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, Bishop of Palm Beach

Palm Sunday

King of Kings

Parish Hall on April 14 at 3 PM

We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as he enters Jerusalem, a community he knew well. This is a

time to prayerfully enter into our own communities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty, those who need our

help. How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we encounter in our daily lives?

Opportunities to Serve and Participate

à Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus (KofC) is the worlds largest Catholic fraternal service organization, sharing the core princi-ples of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Globally in 2017 (most recent data), the KofC made charitable do-nations in excess of $185 million along with over 75 million service hours.

Locally, our Council is approximately 200 practical Catholic men in a variety of age groups, sharing the same core principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. You may recognize many of us from our smiles, our various activities, or wearing our Council Polo Shirts the first weekend of every month.

Our Council Programs are focused in four (4) areas: Faith – Religious formation, Seminarian support, Parish Minis-tries, and others; Community – Youth basketball and soccer challenges, Blood drives, Christmas parade, and others; Life – Mary’s Shelter, Pregnancy Care Center, Hospice Care Memorials, and others; and Family – Easter Egg Hunt, Family Movie Nights, Youth poster contests, and others.

Our Council charitable giving has its foundation in our fundraising activities, including but not limited to: the annual Father Manning Memorial Charity Golf Outing (our largest fundraiser), and our popular Saturday evening dinners and Sunday morning breakfasts (one or the other each month).

We are a vibrant, active, Council! We pray, We work, We play! Why not consider joining us today! ease reach out to any of the men you know is a Knight, and he’ll get you started.
