The Parish Budget for Fiscal Year 2013 (7/1/12 - 6/30/13) is based on the giving of our faith family for Fiscal Year 2012. The portion of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,727.640.00 or $32,597.00 per week. Thank you for your continuing generosity. Contributions for the 34th weekend of the fiscal year were $39,563.00. In the 34th week of our fiscal year, our budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is $1,108,297.00 and our collections are $1,169,991.00. Contributions for Black and Indian Mission were $6,438.00. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider using the Capital Improvement Envelope in your packet to help recover the renovation of St. Bakhita Hall.
May God bless you in your sacrificial giving. Lord, help me move from comfort to sacrifice.
How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me? (Psalm 116:12)

NEW BAPTISM SCHEDULE: All baptisms will now take place once a month either on Saturday at the 5:00 PM or Sunday at the 12:00 Noon Masses. You may also choose 1:15 PM for baptisms directly after the Sunday Noon Mass. Traffic between the 7, 9 and 10:30 AM Masses was very congested, especially with additional people in attendance for baptisms. Also, there was little time for picture taking after the Mass. The new schedule should alleviate those difficulties. For additional information on baptisms you may contact Rhonda at the parish office at 298-7553 or online at www.annunciationparishabq.org.

♦ Question for Children: Jesus invites you to be close to him, to see him with
clear eyes. What is Jesus like as a friend?
♦ Question for Youth: What do you most want God to help you with?
♦ Question for Adults: : Sometimes we can see Christ with clear eyes, as the
disciples did on that mountain. Share about such a time in your own life.

FROM THE PASTOR FEB. 24, 2013
LENT & THE PARISH MISSION
I am pleased to announce that our parish mission begins this Monday evening, Feb. 25th and
will go through Thursday evening, the 28th here at Annunciation. Fr. Brian Mullady, O.P. is
the Dominican priest, whom many of you heard at Mass this weekend, who will present the
Mission. Fr. Mullady taught me in Rome 33 years ago and taught Fr. Ramos in Connecticut
more recently.
Father Mullady’s Mission will be on “Grace, Conversion and the Interior Life.” Please join
us for this spiritual opportunity for renewal in your life this Lent. The Mission will be pre-
ceded by a rosary at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Mass at 7:00 p.m. Father will preach the Mission message dur-
ing the homily of the Mass. In addition, confessions will be heard after the Mass each evening of the Mission.
Please come and bring a friend.
FRIDAYS OF LENT
Remember that the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence which are meant to be opportu-
nities for mortification or sacrifice. We use the rice bowls as one way to offer the value of
whatever we give up in Lent to help the hungry around the world. In addition, we have
our soup suppers, Lenten reflections and Stations of the Cross on Fridays in order to focus
on Our Lord’s Good Friday Passion. Furthermore, the Archdiocese has called for a pro-
gram entitled “The Light is on for You” in which confessions are heard in all the parishes
Friday evenings to welcome back as many Catholics as possible to the Sacrament of Rec-
onciliation. Instead of a general Penance Service, we are offering this approach to confes-
sion along with our regularly scheduled Saturday confession times. Please let everyone know that one of us
priests will be hearing confessions while the other leads the Stations.
ST. PATRICK DAY TICKETS
Tickets for the Brothers of the Good Shepherd St. Patrick Day celebration on March 17th will be available after
all the masses next weekend. As many of you know, this benefit dinner helps the Little Brothers care for the
many homeless and needy souls who come to them every day in downtown Albuquerque. Let us continue to
encourage their great efforts by supporting this fine event.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE
Please continue to support the efforts of Project Defending Life in the national 40 Days for Life
movement. The Lenten 40 days coincides well with the 40 Days to end abortion in our city and
restore a sense of respect and dignity for every human life. Our Lady of Life, pray for us!

► Catholic Relief Services Lenten Rice Bowl Program Thanks to parishioners who have already taken their donation boxes, for their families’ Lenten alms-giving, fasting and prayer for the poor of the world. Rice Bowl boxes are still available in the church vestibule. This Second Week of Lent, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to learn about East Timor, where tuberculosis is a major health crisis. CRS works in communities where access to medical care is limited. The Ca-nossian Sisters, too, have a strong missionary presence in East Timor, in the areas of evangelization, education and health services.
► Faith in the Workplace is an informal gathering of men and women who are active in our community’s workforce. Lively discussions about real issues affecting workplace, and sharing of insights guided by Christian spirituality and principles make this infor-mal gathering beneficial to participants. St. Joseph the Worker is the group’s patron saint. The sessions are held every first Saturday of the month, at 9:45-11:00AM in St. Francis Hall. Participants come with simple snacks to share.
► Annunciation St. Vincent De Paul Conference is in a transition regarding membership. Three of our
dedicated members who have served the poor for many years have resigned for
health reasons. We extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Bill McCormick
(secretary), Michael Shannon, Dolly Kelly. We will keep you in our prayers. Parishion-
ers who want to volunteer in this important ministry, please call Sr. Cristina, Vange
Pena-Jenks, or any SVDP members known to you. Thank you.
► Thank You Birthright of Albuquerque sent a Thank You card to the parish. They acknowledged the huge collection of baby layettes, diapers, maternity clothes, and monetary donations amounting to $105.00. With these generous donations, Birth-right will be able to continue giving 24-piece layettes for newborn babies this coming year. Their clients are very grateful for Annunciation’s help. Thank you, also, for par-ticipating in the Lenten Giving Tree for Catholic Charities. Annunciation parish and school are one of the faithful supporters of the refugee families program of Catholic Charities. Thanks for sharing your blessings with those who are most in need.

Ministry Training Sessions: Anyone who is interested in becoming a Lector for our liturgies should plan on
attending a Lector Training Session next Monday, March 4, at 6:45 pm in the church. Current Lectors are
also encouraged to attend. A Training Session for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will be
held this Saturday, March 2, at 10:30 am in the Community Center. GREETERS are desperately needed at
most weekend Masses, and will be essential at Holy Week services. Please consider helping out with this im-
portant ministry of hospitality.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is in great need of Adult Volunteer Leaders!!! CLW is held at the 9:00 am
and 10:30 am Masses most Sundays. However, it is our Adult and Youth Volunteers who make this possible.
Please call the Liturgy Office for information. There will be NO Children’s Liturgy of the Word for the 9:00
am Mass until Adult Volunteers come forward to help!
Stations of the Cross and Lenten Reflections will be offered each Friday at 7:00 pm in the church during the
Lenten season. Soup Suppers hosted by the many ministries of the parish will precede these Lenten devo-
tions; they are held in the Community Center from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Lenten Reflection Even though Albuquerque is a well-lit city, we are often blessed during these winter nights with a beautiful view of
the heavens. The sky is filled with starry constellations more dominating than our adjacent Sandia Mountains. It was under an even more mysterious night sky that God promised Abram his descendents would number like the stars.
How did Abram, a man close to eighty years of age, fathom the greatness of this promise? Or what about the apostles who walked up the mountain to pray with Jesus, only to be dazzled by His Transfiguration—did they
understand the greatness of the One before them?
We now find ourselves entering the second week of our Lenten journey. In the face of little sacrifices and charitable works, do we appreciate the gift of life our Lord provided for us? Are we open to the Christ-filled possibilities of this
season? Let us turn to the Lord through our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving this season that we may
more fully recognize Him as our light and our salvation.
