JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Wellbeing Service Vocational Advisor

Salary Grade: £21, 000 per annum based on 37.5 full time hours

Responsible to: Chief Operations Officer

No. of Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Main Base: Time will be spent at a range of bases covering North and Mid Hertfordshire primarily in Stevenage, Hertford, Welwyn Garden City and St Albans. Some travel may be required countywide.

Background to the Post

Mind in Mid Herts in partnership with Hertfordshire Mind Network has been contracted to work with the Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) Wellbeing Service Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) to provide one-to-one Vocational Advice to their clients who may require additional support in this area.

Purpose of Post

The key purpose of this post is to work alongside clients accessing the Wellbeing Service (IAPT) as they develop their pathway to recovery by providing one-to-one provision supporting them into education, training, paid or unpaid employment. You will work closely with the Wellbeing Service and Mind in Mid Herts staff, and on your own initiative, to forge strong links with employment, training and voluntary sector agencies. The post holder will ensure the delivery of quality services and be able to identify gaps in provision to inform future developments, as well as ensuring quality assurance standards are met and funding agreements are adhered to.

Accountability

The post holder will be line-managed by the Chief Operations Officer at Mind in Mid Herts and will also be accountable to the Access Lead for the Wellbeing Service, but will manage their own workload, prioritising tasks and working on their own initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Vocational Advice Coordination

Work in partnership with Wellbeing Service practitioners who are providing low/high intensity interventions to individuals who are unemployed or experiencing employment issues

Receive case information and referrals from Wellbeing Service practitioners in order to assess work and employment needs, and provide non-clinical oversight of an individual’s progress

Undertake employment-related one-to-ones with Wellbeing Service clients to help identify their employment support needs, job goals, ambitions and skills and to provide one-to-one provision supporting them into education and training

Support individuals in returning to work following absence. If possible liaising with occupational health as to fitness to return to work. Advising and liaising with employers regarding phased returns to work for individuals

To contribute to and implement the strategic plans of the Wellbeing Team and Mind in Mid Herts around employment opportunities

Promote and circulate information on unemployment benefits and Jobcentre Plus services; labour market information; local employers and their recruitment practices; workplace solutions, and provision for individuals within the local community

Track progress towards employment, keeping coherent records of all employment related activity for each individual, ensuring that health and employment support is fully integrated

To work with Mind in Mid Herts Volunteer Co-ordinator where relevant to identify training and volunteering opportunities

To signpost individuals to other appropriate additional support available through Mind in Mid Herts and other relevant organisations e.g. CAB, Jobcentre Plus and CVS supporting them in this process

To work with staff and other agencies to provide information and guidance to enable service users to move into training, education or employment.

Ensure local provision (both employment and social related) is appropriately mapped to meet service users’ needs

Promote and raise the profile of the Wellbeing Service’s and Mind in Mid Herts’ vocational provision within the local community. The aim is to raise awareness within the community of the Wellbeing Service’s work and mental health provision and to promote awareness of issues relating to unemployment/employment issues and mental health

Implement employer engagement activities to develop recognition of the service with specific employers, particularly medium and small employers

To offer presentations on the work of Mind in Mid Herts and the Wellbeing Service and raise awareness and challenge stigma around mental health

To liaise with staff, local employment agencies and colleges in order to identify volunteering opportunities, job opportunities, work placements and training.

Knowledge and Personal Development

Stay up to date with developments in Jobcentre Plus provision, benefits, local employment, and social provision for individuals

Develop some knowledge of psychological therapies provision in order to work alongside practitioners and complement their work

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to employment, social inclusion, mental health and Primary Care Services

Evaluation and Monitoring

Develop and manage the project in accordance with any partnership or funding agreements

Ensure the efficient administration of services including distributing promotional materials, maintaining records and submitting reports as required

To be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the project and reporting outcomes to Mind in Mid Herts and the Wellbeing Team

To ensure that all records and confidential information is stored in line with the Data Protection Act

Ensure the health and safety function of the organisation is met Ensure that databases are kept up to date.

General

Participate in mandatory training and development opportunities as agreed within the Performance Management process

To work some hours outside of normal office hours (including evenings and weekends).

Qualifications

A professional qualification or equivalent degree related to health and social care and/or experience in vocational advice and guidance

Evidence of continual professional development

Education or training related to working with people with mental health conditions

Experience

Evidence of providing individual and group employment support to jobseekers who have a health condition or disability

Direct experience of working with mental health service users

Evidence of successful employment engagement activities

Evidence of partnership working (including with clinical practitioners) and coordinating services to achieve joint objectives

Evidence of working to deadlines, and achieving outcomes against targets

Experience of service promotion and development

Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills with proven ability to negotiate with and positively influence others, and develop effective working relationships at all levels

Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills

Report writing skills with the ability to present sensitive information

Ability to analyse information and develop effective solutions to monitor, manage and report on client and project progress
