April 6, 2018
To the parents/guardians of «First_Name» «Last_Name», April showers mean that springtime is upon us…minus the snow from this week, we are champing at the bit for some much needed fun in the sun. That being said, it is an extremely busy time for us here at MCI as we have the OSSLT (more on this a little later on in the E-Bulletin), Midterms Report Cards (coming home on the 30th of April), and the final term of the 2017-2018 school year right around the corner. Lots and lots of student teams, clubs, committees and councils are planning events for the spring, and believe it or not, our diligent staff is already thinking about and working on next September and the 2018-2019 school year! Finally, this weekend marks the arrival of Orthodox Easter. If you are celebrating Orthodox Easter, we wish you a safe and enjoyable time this weekend. Sincerely,
A. Daniel, A. Gheewala, S. Maharaj, G. Tsigaridis

MCI HIGHLIGHTS
EQAO Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) – Tuesday, April 10, 2018
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has scheduled Tuesday, April 10, 2018 as the day for students across the province to complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). To assist in creating the best possible environment for students writing the test, and as a result of changes to EQAO policy, the Board will implement a modified school day. On April 10, secondary schools will follow an exam-style day in which:
● only grade 10 and Previously Eligible students who are writing the test are required to be
at school (no regular classes for students in grades 9, 11, and 12 will occur);
● students will be dismissed upon completion of the test;
● school bus and taxi service will run on their normal schedules; and
● self-contained special education classes [MCI: Developmentally Delayed, Autism, Intensive] will
follow their regular schedule.
For Parents/Guardians of students who ARE NOT WRITING the OSSLT on April 10th, please read the following information: Although schools will be open, regular classes will not be running. Students are encouraged to use the time on this day to review or complete coursework, prepare for upcoming assessments, engage in Individual Pathways Planning, or complete community involvement hours. If students do report to school, they will be permitted to engage in quiet study in the Cafeteria.

Contribute to Strategic Planning at YRDSB - Upcoming Town Halls
York Region District School Board is revisioning its Multi-Year Plan (MYP) and Board Improvement Plan for
Student Achievement and Well-being. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of
public education in York Region public schools. The MYP incorporates the direction established by the
Trustees with feedback received from all stakeholders, and will inform decision making at the Board in the
years to come. Town halls will be taking place across the region and feedback collected from families and
community members will inform the creation of a new MYP. Your voice is important and your input and
feedback will help York Region District School Board support student achievement and well-being. There will
also be other opportunities, including a survey available in April, to share your thoughts if you are unable to
attend a town hall. **If interested in attending, please email Mr. Gheewala at [email protected]**
