Each film had to explore the relationship between Police and the need to end gang violence. Big Congratulations go to MCI films “Choice” by Sonia Tumkur, Vasi Sivakumar, Dipansh Jindal, Jasmine Li and Archana Sivakuganandan and “No More” by Estella Chiu, Kavi Gurunathan and Kelly Zhou. EXTRA CONGRATULATIONS also goes to our film “Choice” walking away with SECOND PLACE at the film festival winning $300!! Attention all Drivers in and around MCI!

A gentle reminder to all of those who drive or get a ride to school, that we need to make sure that we are being safe in the parking lot and on the streets in and around MCI. We would like to ask that all parents, guardians, caregivers, family members and students who are driving be extra careful of other vehicles on the road and also of pedestrians in the area. MCI has partnered with the York Regional Police in an effort to help keep our streets safe for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. There will be more police presence around the MCI community who will be monitoring road safety. Let’s all do our part to be mindful and take care of each other on the roads!

Human Rights Commissioner’s Office

York Region District School Board is committed to creating safe, equitable and inclusive learning and working environments. As part of this commitment, the Board established a Human Rights Commissioner’s Office (HRCO).

The HRCO was created in response to a growing awareness that a space was needed within the school board environment to effectively address issues of discrimination and harassment specific to the Human Rights Code.

The HRCO is an arms-length office for Human Rights Code compliance under the Board’s Human Rights Policy.

The HRCO website provides the YRDSB community access to important information related to human rights, a confidential complaint reporting process and contact information for the office. The website can be found at www.yrdsb.ca/hrco.

There is a positive relationship between regular attendance and success in school. Students at MCI are required to attend regularly, to be punctual, and to participate in all scheduled classes.

VALID ABSENCES include illness, bereavement or family emergency.

AUTHORIZED ABSENCES include dentist/doctor appointments, driver’s test, and court appearances.

EXCUSED ABSENCES refer to field trips and school sanctioned events. Students are still considered to be at school.

EXTENDED ABSENCES of four days or more require the completion of a “Special Leave” form at least one week in advance of the leave. This form may be obtained from the Main Office. A parent/guardian signature is required. It is the student’s responsibility to catch up on all work missed.

DO NOT plan absences or family vacations during culminating and exam periods as the evaluations CANNOT be rescheduled.

Type of Absence Parent/Guardian Responsibility Absent for a Full Day Phone the school with a valid reason the same day or send a note

upon return

Absent for One or More Classes Phone with valid reason indicating the time of absence or send a note with the student

Leaving Before the End of the Day Student signs out in attendance office with a note from the parent/guardian

In the Event of an Emergency Contact the office as soon as possible.

For safety reasons, students who have signed out must leave the building as they will not be directly supervised.

Dear parent/Guardian of «First_Name» «Last_Name»,
