The tournament is also working on volunteers for juniors ( click here or see the attached flyer with this Newsletter) although they already have a number of these spots committed. KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Provides

Volunteer Opportunities for our Professionals

and Their Golfers We are truly excited about the opportunity to be involved with another “major” championship conducted in our Section and this will truly be a unique collaboration of forces. The stars of the LPGA will be

coming to Westchester Country Club for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship the week of June 8th. The Championship proper gets under way June 11th – 15th but many of the volunteer opportunities will occur early in the week. The Met PGA will be working with the PGA of America and sponsor KPMG prior to the start of play to support the registration responsibilities, promotional programs that will include but not be limited to clinics and the Family Fun Zone. Spring Meeting Returns to Wykagyl on April 2nd We are hoping the snow is gone and our return to Wykagyl will afford us the opportunity to include golf along with our Spring Meeting and annual salute to our Sponsors and Partners on April 2nd. After another incredible turnout last year and success bringing our Partners and Sponsors together with our membership for networking, business, lunch and golf, we are excited about the return to Wykagyl for our 6th year in a row. Prior to the start of the business meeting that morning, we will welcome our Partners and Sponsors to help greet our attending professionals during the registration and continental breakfast. After introducing our supporters, we then turn to the business reports up until lunch. Weather and course conditions permitting, there will be an early afternoon shotgun followed by a closing awards reception as the official opening of our 2015 season. Our field for golf will be limited and registration for the meeting and golf will open March 9th online. Professionals are reminded that attendance at the Spring Meeting provides 4 MSR Credits in the required meeting category.

Chuck Cook Headlines 53rd Annual Met PGA Spring Educational Forum on April 14th We are excited and proud to be featuring one of the most renowned instructors in the country at this year’s Spring Forum at the Westchester Dinner Theatre on Tuesday, April 14th. Chuck Cook, best known for his students Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Luke Donald and Joe Ogilvie will highlight the program. He will be joined on stage by Dr. Sasho MacKenzie MacKenzie is a PhD in biomechanics in sport medicine and is an associate professor at St. Francis University. He has collaborated with a number of golf instructors, including Chris Como, Tiger Woods new coach. More details on the agenda will be forthcoming but we are excited about this special annual educational offering. Six (6) MSR Credits will be awarded in the required education category. Registration will open on March 9th for the Spring Forum.

Met PGA Offers Spring Education Series with Partners & Sponsors With the help and interest of our Partners and Sponsors heading into the upcoming MSR deadline, the Section has established the Met PGA Spring Educational Series. Programs will be offered on almost a weekly basis from the end of March through May at no charge and sponsored and presented by a number of our Partners and Sponsors. Not all programs will count in the required MSR category (36 credits) of Section sponsored education and meetings but all will count towards overall MSR (54 credits) requirement. Registration on these programs will begin on March 6th. Several sites are still being finalized but the schedule is expected to include:

Cobra & Puma and Aimpoint (with John Hobbins) are also working dates to be part of the Met PGA Spring Edu-cation Series while PING is working on a September program.

Spring Forum Awards Ceremonies to Honor Rod Loesch as Sam Snead Award Recipient along with 2014

Met PGA Professional of the Year Darrell Kestner and Player of the Year Grant Sturgeon Three professionals who have truly left their mark on the Metropolitan PGA will be honored during the annual Awards Ceremony at our Spring Forum on April 14th at the Westchester Dinner Theatre. Hall of Famer and former Player and Teacher of the Year, Darrell Kestner of Deepdale will be celebrated as our 2014 Metropolitan PGA Pro-fessional of the Year. He will be joined on the stage by another outstanding player, Grant Sturgeon of Winged Foot who won three times last year enroute to a commanding 2014 Met PGA Player of the Year title. Finally, Rod Loesch who has served the PGA of America on the Board of Directors and chaired some of the most important committees in addition to his service to the Section as President and one of the founding Board Members of The First Tee will be honored with the Sam Snead Award for contributions to golf, the PGA and the Met Section.

Assistants Spring Meeting and Opening Tournament at Old Oaks Country Club on April 6th

Election Scheduled for New Officer Our opening meeting and tournament for our Assistants Association will take place on Monday, April 6th at Old oaks Country Club. The annual gathering provides a great opportunity to meet new additions to the Section and share plans for the upcoming season. The meeting will be under the leadership of the Assistants Officers Board consisting of new President, Dennis Dungee (Mount Kisco CC), Tyler Jaramillo (Saint Andrew’s Golf Club), Pete Catanzaro (Scarsdale) and Jimmy Farrell (Creek). A new Secretary will also be elected with the move of Andrew Bostrom to a head professional position in New Jersey. Our 2015 Spring Tournament will also continue as a team format (better ball format of some sort/pairings will be based as much as possible on the 2014 Player of the Year points list). PGA Members are also reminded that attending this meeting does provide for 2 MSR Meeting Credits. Registration for the Assistants Spring Meeting and the Assistant Playing Privileges will begin on March 16th. Tournament registration will be limited to 108 players and playing privilege fees must be paid in order to sign-up (Playing privilege fees can be paid as of March 9th).

Met PGA to Launch First PGA Hope Site in 2015

Educational Program Available March 23rd

Teaching Individuals with Disabilities

The Met PGA is proud to announce that we will be launching our first PGA Hope site at West Point GC this Spring with plans of rolling our to additional sites in 2016. PGA HOPE is a 5-8 week golf training program designed to deliver a new level of enjoyment through golf that enables our nation's heroes to once again be active and participate in a game that enhances their mental, social, physical, and emotional well-being. For our program to be successful we will need the involvement of Met PGA Professionals in the teaching of the program. David Windsor, PGA of the Adaptive Golf Academy will be leading an educational program on March 23rd from 9am– 4pm in the Met Section on Teaching Individuals with Disabilities at Westchester CC. Those individuals interested in assisting with the PGA Hope Program will need to participate in the training as it will provide a comfortable first experience for military veterans and PGA Professionals participating in PGA HOPE. This training program is also a great opportunity for Professionals to be trained to teach all people with disabilities at their clubs. Please click here to register

Race for the Lease Returns with 2015 Lincoln Pro-Am Series By March 16th we expect to announce not only our upcoming schedule of Lincoln Pro-Am events but we will start to promote the second year of the Lincoln Race for the Lease which will culminate this year with a 2-year lease awarded to one of our Section PGA Professionals. We will have a slate of 8-10 Pro-Ams on the 2015 Lincoln Pro-Am schedule and are so appreciative of the continued support of title

sponsor Lincoln and Presenting Sponsors Mohegan Sun, MasterCard and Anheuser-Busch. PGA Members may enter with multiple teams 30 days in advance of each Pro-Am. The test-drive opportunities will no longer be offered but we do have some other exciting and meaningful programs planned for our amateur participants. Pro-Am winners will also again be invited into the Tournament of Champions at Mohegan Sun vying against our counterparts from New England in the Stripes vs. Sox Pro-Am on Oct. 7th. We will have more details on all of these changes on the web site and in our April Newsletter and Spring Meeting packets.

TaylorMade adidas Golf Met PGA Pro-Assistants on April 13th Some 400 professionals will gather at our two Pro-Assistants venues on Monday, April 13th for the TaylorMade adidas Golf events at Brookville CC on Long Island and Leewood Golf Club for

Westchester/CT/Upstate. Both events will offer double shotguns to allow for our PGA Member head professionals to compete with their professional staff. Unfortunately the size of these fields does not allow for staff members who are not professionals to compete. Registration for the Pro-Assistants will begin on March 16th.

Player of the Year Race Opens with Match Play Championships The first point events of the spring will be at the Match Play Championships conducted at Huntington Country Club on Long Island and at Apawamis Club in Westchester. The MasterCard LIPGA and MasterCard Westchester PGA qualifyings will be on Monday, April 20th and they will also serve as the qualifying rounds for the Senior Match Play Championship at Woodmere Club on May 5-7. Details on the format, schedule, exemption policies, and the point system for qualifiers and other event information will be included on the web site and in the registration link. Regis-tration will open on March 16th.

Met PGA Special Awards Nominations for 2015 – Deadline for Nominations is March 7th The Special Awards Committee will begin their review of nominations for the 2015 Special Awards the week of March 10th. Please submit suggestions and nomination forms no later than March 7th. Click here for form and award descriptions.

No Increase in Playing Privilege Fees for 2015 Metropolitan PGA Members will not have any increase in their Playing Privilege Fees for the coming season. The registration and payment for 2015 Playing Privileges will begin on March 9th. Tournament Dues will be $250.00 for PGA Members who play in 3 events or more for the calendar year (Life Members pay $150.00 for 3 or more events) and those PGA Members who play in two events pay only $125.00 (Life Members pay $100.00) for the annual fees. Apprentice Playing Privilege Fees are $100.00 and Non-Registered assistant playing privilege fees are $150.00. Tournament dues must be paid in order to register for Section tournaments.

2015 PGA Compensation Survey Deadline is March 23rd The PGA’s Annual Compensation Survey is now live on PGA.org. This is a great way to receive 2 MSR Credits and to help yourself and your fellow professionals by sharing the completely anonymous survey data that can be sorted by Section as well as facility type and job titles. The deadline for completing the survey is March 23rd.

Update Your Profile on PGA.org and Receive 1 MSR in Required Service Category As a way to promote increased engagement with PGA.org, Members who update their PGA.org profile will receive one (1) MSR credit in “service”, which applies to the Total MSR category: #2 Service to the PGA/Industry – applies to the TOTAL CATEGORY Serving the Section, Chapter, National PGA or Allied Association. Participating in advancement of the game activities such as radio shows, TV shows, speeches, golf promotional non-playing events, golf clinics and other volunteer activities, such as non-playing tournament official.

Awarding MSR for this activity is consistent with other National, Section and Chapter activities in which PGA Members can receive credit for providing service to the Association.

PGA Stroke Play & Match Play Championships Close out PGA Winter Championships

The PGA Winter Stroke Play Championships produced solid showings for the Met Section both in the 72 hole event for members and the 54 hole championship for women PGA Members. In the Women’s Championship, Marge Jones of Chelsea Piers finished in solo 5th place and C.J. Reeves of Century was tied for 7th and both professionals earned a payday. Sue Ginter won the 54-hole event with a field of 21 players competing. The final results of the Stroke Play Championship boasted 19 out of the top 70 finishers (more than 25% of the field) from the Met Section. The best performance came from Deepdale’s Ben Polland tied for 3rd behind winner Rod Per-ry and runner-up Bob Sowards. Century’s Frank Bensel and Muttontown’s Chris Marinaro were tied for 10th followed by Mark Brown of Tam O’Shanter in 21st place and Charlie Meola of Saxon Woods in a tie for 25th. Also cashing a check was Ryan Kalista of Tamarack (32nd), Shaun Powers of Fairview (T-36th), Colin Amaral of Metropolis and Matt Noel of Huntington Country Club (T-38th), Piping Rock’s Nick Beddow and Pete Catanzaro of Scarsdale (T-42nd), Woodmere’s Matt McAdow and Grant Sturgeon of Winged Foot (T-45), Matt Sita of Old Westbury and Old Oaks’ Bobby Heins (T-48th), Poxabogue’s Rob Corcoran (T-53rd), Anthony Aruta of North Shore (T-55th) and Inwood’s Kyle Higgins (T-60th).

In the PGA Match Play Championship, six of the 32 money-earners were from the Met Section although nobody ad-vanced into the quarterfinals. Kyle Baehler of Willow Ridge, Pete Catanzaro and Kyle Higgins each won two match-es while Pat Massi of The Griff, Matt McAdow and Grant Sturgeon each won a match This year’s Winter Champion-ships were presented by GOLFADVISOR and Premier Golf.

PGA Financial Assistance Fund Scholarship Application Deadline is March 16th The scholarship program is an academic based scholarship program that takes into account the following depending on the class level of the student:

High School Graduating Senior

- High School Cumulative Grade Point Average – must be at least 3.4 (60% of the scholarship weighting scale). Condolences

Our deepest sympathies on the passing of former Birchwood Country Club head professional, David McGoldrick. David lost a courageous battle to cancer at the age of 51. In addition to serving Birchwood (as both an assistant and head professional), David also was an assistant at Fairchild Wheeler and at Country Club of Fairfield. Our condolences to his wife Tina and the entire McGoldrick family….. We are also deeply saddened to announce the passing of the father of Westchester Country Club’s teaching assistant, Terri Migliaccio………Michael Thorne, 57 years old and the outstanding club manager at Westhampton Country Club also recently lost his 3-year battle to pancreatic cancer. Michael had been at Hempstead before moving to Westhampton where he served for 14 years.

Congratulations to Colin McConchie, the newly appointed PGA A-1 head professional at Hempstead Golf & Country Club. Colin is returning to the Met Section where he worked for three years for Sean Farren at The Creek Club before moving to Baltusrol and working for Doug Steffen since 2012. Colin will take over immediately at Hempstead. Congratulations to Brad Worthington on being named the Director of Golf at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point. Brad will begin immediately at New York City’s newest municipal golf course. Shawangunk Country Club in Ellenville, New York has recently announced the hiring of Geoff Walsh as their new head professional and general manager. At nearby Mansion Ridge Golf Course, Nick Schremser, former A-8 at Brynwood Country Club in Armonk has been selected to take over as the head professional at this newly acquired Troon management property. Congratulations to both Geoff and Nick on their recent appointments. On Long Island, Pine Ridge Golf Club in Coram, New York has just announced that Rich Jones will become the new A-1 head professional. Rich had been at Dick’s Sporting Goods, The First Tee and Mill Pond before accepting this new position. St. John’s University has named Glen Cove Golf Course head professional Mal

Galletta III as their new head golf coach. Mal, a graduate of St. John’s where he also played on the golf team, will remain at Glen Cove as he takes on this additional responsibility.
