May 2017 Newsletter
When the risen Jesus appeared to his disciples that first night, he empowered them with his Holy Spirit and
sent them out. Before his Ascension, which we will celebrate later this month, Jesus sent them again in what we
call The Great Commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you
always, to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:19-20) Earlier in Matthew’s Gospel Jesus gives us the great
commandment, which sums up all the Commandments, law and prophets saying, “You shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Matt. 22:37-39) A great commandment and a great commission which informs the Church how to be great for
God by what we are to be doing.
1) Love the Lord with everything you’ve got! The Church does this through worship. Easter Sunday’s
worship was overflowing! Why not a full sanctuary every other Sunday as well, since every Sunday
celebrates Christ’s resurrection. Worship also gives the Holy Spirit opportunity to open our hearts and
minds, working through Word and Sacraments!
2) Love your neighbor! This is the Church’s ministry, serving others in need by sharing God’s love for
them and attending to their physical and spiritual needs. God has established a personal, loving
relationship with us; now we can build those kinds of relationships with the people around us as we
share his love.
3) Go and make disciples! Share the Good News and tell others what Jesus has done for you; let them
know that Jesus has done it for them, too. We do this at home, at work and at school by sharing our
faith stories and being living examples of our faith.
4) Baptize them! In Baptism God forgives sin, claims us as his children, gives us his Holy Spirit, and gives
us eternal life. When people are aware of the awesome gifts and promises God makes in Baptism, they
want to receive all that God offers.
5) Teach them to obey God’s Word! Jesus taught his disciples everything they needed to know for life
and salvation. The Church teaches through Bible studies, classes, and fellowship; every time we are
together to share what Christ has taught us. When people know God’s Word and the Word lives in
them, they are eager to do his Will.
This Easter Season reminds us that we have a living Lord and Savior. Christ is alive! The world needs to know.
God uses the Church, you and me, to tell them and show them! When we’re living in a right relationship with
our living Lord, it’s easy, because Jesus does it through us. We are never left on our own, as Jesus has
promised, “I am with you always!”

May 14-21: Family Promise Host Week! May 14-21 is a week we at PLC give of ourselves and the blessings of this
church building. For that, we praise the Lord, and look forward to serving
our community of Homeless Families. Family Promise is one of PLC's Mission
Ministries and we are able because of our awesome building facility, as it is so great of how it provides for the
families. Although, a building CANNOT serve without servants!
Please volunteer during this week for "Dinner Host" time 5-7 pm, "Evening Host" time 7-9 pm, or "Overnight
Host" time 9 pm – 7 am. You may go to our MealTrain site at https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/w7ezqe to
choose your "volunteer opportunity" within the many choices! Another opportunity to serve is by giving a
designated financial donation; please make your check to PLC with a Family Promise memo.
If you have any questions about FP ministry or how to volunteer, please call/text Jolene Pooley 208-818-6286
or email [email protected].
Thank you in God’s Grace!

Uganda Here We Come…Just a Little Later! The increase in our Uganda Fund is wonderful and a great support to the work ahead! We need to let you
know of a development in the Uganda trip that will affect many things. In April, the airfare went up another
$200 (now almost double of what we were used to paying). Upon doing some investigation, we have learned
that travel to Africa in June, July, and August is much more expensive than any other time of year due to tourist
seasons. We queried the entire team, and the majority agreed that it was not good stewardship to spend
double on airfare to get the team to Uganda.
All this to say, the Uganda trip is not cancelled but rather postponed to some date after August when the
airfares return to the average prices. We are considering possibly an early winter trip or sometime early in 2018,
but have nothing definite at this time. We still believe God has called this team to reach the hurting in Uganda,
we just picked the wrong dates that God wants us there. We believe the delay will provide opportunities to
enhance the trip even more and are excited to watch this unfold!
On a side note I had received a call from a couple in Great Falls, MT, who were vacationing at Stoneridge. They
were searching for a Lutheran church to worship at on Good Friday and Easter and found Peace Lutheran. On
our website, they noticed the Uganda Mission, and it is something they have wanted to do for a long time. We
are meeting with them to discuss details – our God is always two steps ahead of us!
If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Maren or Brian Snyders at (208) 818-7055. There are
many other ways that you can be a part of this team, so be on the lookout for forthcoming information as we
assemble our supply and clothing needs for this mission. Most importantly, please join us in prayer NOW as we
prepare our hearts and minds for this trip that already looks to be much different from our previous
missions. Thank you Peace Council and to many members that have already shown tremendous support!
Brian and Maren Snyders
(Our total Wed Lenten offerings were $1,369 designated for the 2017 Uganda Mission. Thank you!)

SOLE HOPE SHOE CUTTING PARTY What a party!! Twenty people showed up to cut up jeans, trace patterns, and cut the patterns out. The Dorcas
Quilters had purchased bags of jeans from local thrift stores, and had started cutting the pattern pieces weeks
before the event. Through all the work we also enjoyed great fellowship and chocolate chip cookies!! At the
end of the afternoon we had cut up enough patterns for 120 pairs of shoes (that's twice as many as the party in
October), and collected $400 for a cash donation. The cash donation goes to Uganda to help pay for the other
materials to complete the shoes, to pay the wages for the tailors who make the shoes, and to help pay the
expenses for the trained groups of people to go to the villages, treat the children with jiggers, and educate the
villagers on prevention. Sole Hope is really making a difference in people’s lives, and Peace Lutheran is a great
part of that mission. Please click on www.solehope.org and see what is going on!! Thank you to all who
participated, and please remember we will do this again in October. Bring your friends!!

Dear OCC Church Partners,
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for partnering with Operation Christmas Child in 2016. It is a
blessing to partner with local churches to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with children all over the world!
North Idaho alone brought in 7,662 shoeboxes! The total number of shoeboxes collected was 11,485,662! Each
of those boxes represents a child who had the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.
More exciting news is the number of children enrolled in The Greatest Journey (TGJ) in 2016 was 3,552,115. Just
in case you are not familiar with TGJ, it is a 12-week voluntary class the kids have an opportunity to take in
many countries. This class disciples them on a much deeper level. Out of those children who participated last
year, 1,616,466 accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at their personal Savior! God is working through the gift of a
simple shoebox. If you have any questions, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our phone
number is 208-415-8295. Thank you again for your partnership in spreading the Gospel. May God bless you
this next year as you faithfully serve Him!
Sincerely,
Amy and Naomi Holland
