A week later his disciples were again in the house. Although the doors
were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with
you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands.
Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe."
John 20:27
Doubt
By Pastor Tom Smith
John 20:19-31
Standing on the sidewalk
Looking through the window
Restaurant’s full of hungry people
They are waiting to be filled.
I look away a moment
Sidewalk’s full of hungry people, too
Moving fast with eyes downcast
They are waiting on nothing.
Standing there I realize
I’m neither in nor out
I long to enter but I don’t
Just waiting there with Doubt.
Then suddenly it happens
Had only heard she was about
Grace walks by and sees us there
And waits with me and Doubt.
“How long will you wait with us?”
I ask Grace nervously
“Forever and day,’ she replies,
And I’ll do so lovingly.”
For some unknown reason
That’s all I needed to hear
Opening the door, we entered in
Doubt and I both, eating at the table.
As we journey together as a faith community, saved by Grace through
Christ to serve, may we look for ways to graciously walk with one
another amid our doubts.
God’s richest blessings on the confirmands and their families as these
young adults affirm their faith this month. Happy Mother’s Day to all
mothers and all those who offer a mother’s care.
In Christ,
Pastor Tom

baptized, are invited to contact the church office. In the case of Adult
Baptism, candidates are encouraged to worship and attend the Sunday morning Bible Study.
Those who want to have their child baptized are asked to schedule a Baptism Preparation
session with Pastor Tom prior to the baptism. P.T. looks forward to talking with you! Please
speak with him if you have questions.
Saturday Morning Study
Saturday, May 12th and 26th, 8:30-10:00am
Downstairs in the Great Hall
Five hundred years ago, a little-known German monk discovered in Scripture two simple
ideas so scandalous that they set Europe aflame for centuries. The church would never be the
same. In this 6-session DVD series, let’s rediscover what Martin Luther uncovered five
centuries ago—two simple ideas, so evident throughout Scripture, the foundation of the
Christian life. Long-term study commitments are not necessary; no prep is needed; no
homework is assigned. It’s simply conversation.
For additional information, contact Tammie at [email protected] or 654-3256.
Sunday's Com'n
Each Wednesday morning at 8:30am, gather with Pastor Tom in the Gathering Space to
reflect on the scripture reading for the coming Sunday. No experience necessary. We read the
text and share how it makes us feel and the thoughts and
questions it generates. It's all good!
Come and See...
All are invited to a refreshing Bible Study fellowship this
summer.
Dates: Tuesdays starting June 5th
Time: 9:00-11:00am
Location: The Madison’s at 8204 65th Ave, Kenosha
On June 5th we will meet and decide what part of the Bible
we would like to focus on for study and discussion. My plans are that this study will be
welcoming to all students of various Bible study experience. We will read and discuss each
week how God's truth impacts, encourages and strengthens our lives. Summer is a busy time
for everyone, so the study will be flexible for participants to attend when their schedules allow.
Please RSVP to Mary Beth Madison by June 2nd your desire to be a part of this fellowship.

Lines from the Library
Your library ministry has been busy spring cleaning! Sue and John O’Day generously
donated an additional bookcase to the library. Thank you John and Sue! So we are taking this
opportunity to rearrange the furnishings and spread out the books, giving them some
breathing room. This is a work in progress. When we are finished we think the library will be
a cozier, more inviting space and books should be easier to locate. Stop in for a visit to see how
we’re progressing – and to check out a book or two. And, as always, selected books are
available each week on the Library ala Carte in the Gathering Space.
All library books checked out through the Sunday School library program should be
returned no later than May 13 for summer inventory. Books may continue to be checked out
from the library or the Library ala Carte in the Gathering Space.
Summer Service Times
Beginning May 27th
and continuing through
September 9th we will
be holding only one
Sunday Worship
Service at 9:00am.

Financial Stewardship
Dear members of Trinity,
March was not a good
month; we were short both
in Unified Giving and the
building debt reduction
(mortgage payment). We
need your help in keeping
up with your pledges!
Think about creating direct
withdraw of your pledges.
Krista and I are on a
monthly payment.
What is Unified
Giving? Unified Giving is
more than just the utility
bills. It is our giving for our
synod (very important),
salaries for all of our employees, budgeted amounts for our Trinity ministries, etc. Your giving for
the mortgage, organ, sound system, etc. are all kept separately. If you have any questions, please
ask me.
Mortgage loan refinanced: Our new payment is now $4900.83 a month down from $5035.70 a
month.
Hope to see you all in church, and keep everyone in your prayers,
Jim Lichtenheld

Care for Creation
Kenosha Green Congregations kicked off Kenosha’s journey into
interdenominational care for creation on Saturday, April 21st at St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church. In attendance were representatives from Bradford Unitarian Universalist
Church, St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, and St. Mary’s, St. Paul’s, and Trinity
Lutheran Churches as well as guests and presenters from Racine Green Congregations. Dru Spitzer
and Sheri Villers attended as Trinity’s representatives.
Racine Green Congregation members presented a program on how they developed an
environmentally based network of faith communities that learn and share together as well as
support and encourage one another’s efforts in caring for creation.
By action of the church council on July 17, 2007 a motion was approved that Trinity Lutheran
Church would adopt a Care for Creation covenant accepting congregational responsibility to be
stewards of the earth; for council to encourage each committee of the congregation to actively
promote ecological justice for the earth and the community; and for each committee to create a one,
three, and five year plan.
In 2008 action plans were submitted by the property; witness; learning; youth; worship and
music; and social ministry committees. Much has been accomplished. Most of the goals in our first
year plan were met. But our three and five year plans have stalled. With the support and
encouragement of Kenosha Green Congregations and our sister organization, Racine Green
Congregations, may Trinity, motivated by our love of God the creator and our love for God’s
creation, move forward to live and act in ways that foster justice, peace, and the integrity of
creation.

heartfelt thank you to Sheri Villers for the fantastic job in

what a vibrant, action-filled church we are. Thank you,
Sheri, for the huge job you have taken on!
——
Thank you to Mike VanLaningham for the youth

have an active youth group in the church. Thank you, Mike,
for keeping us mindful of the importance of our youth!
——
I would like to thank everyone for the prayers, phone
calls, get well cards, offers of help and your expressed
concerns. These have been a great comfort to me during the
recovery from my surgeries. One night, I felt I couldn’t cope
with all the situations that were confronting me. The next
morning, I woke and felt a great relief had come over me. I
now knew God’s love and a sign of Trinity’s love through
your prayers. Once again, thank you. Jim Glover
