I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.
Psalm 52:8
If you want to read a story about heroism
and trust in the face of seemingly
insurmountable odds, then look for a book on
English explorer Ernest Shackleton's 1914
Antarctic expedition aboard his ship, The
Endurance. Though his expedition failed to
achieve its goal of crossing Antarctica, under
Shackleton’s leadership all crewmen survived
the ordeal. Years later after Shackleton’s
death, a fellow explorer wrote this about him:
For a joint scientific and geographical
piece of organization, give me Scott; for
a Winter Journey, Wilson; for a dash to the Pole and
nothing else, Amundsen: and if I am in the devil of a
hole and want to get out of it, give me Shackleton every
time.
Shackleton’s men trusted one another and they trusted him.
Shackleton trusted God. Trust is life giving.
This year’s Lenten journey theme is about Trust. During each
Wednesday service, we will hear a story from the Bible of men and
women who put their trust in the Lord. Some of our youth will assist
in bringing these stories to life by acting them out as they are read.
I pray as we continue our faith journey together throughout the
years that our trust in the Lord Jesus and in one another will grow.
In Jesus, God fulfills God’s promise to give us hope and life. God is
indeed trustworthy.
Courageous and trustworthy leaders come and go throughout the
years, but the Holy Triune God is faithful from everlasting to
everlasting! Join us each Wednesday this Lent for a simple soup
supper at 6:00 pm followed by worship at 7:15 pm as we deepen our
trust in God and in one another.
In Hope, Joy and Trust,
Pastor Tom

Baptism
Adults who desire to be baptized, or those who want to have their child
baptized, are invited to contact the church office. In the case of Adult
Baptism, candidates are encouraged to worship and attend the Sunday morning Bible Study.
Those who want to have their child baptized are asked to schedule a Baptism Preparation
session with Pastor Tom prior to the baptism. P.T. looks forward to talking with you! Please
speak with him if you have questions.
Saturday Morning Study
Saturday, March 10th and 24th, 8:30-10:00am, Room 204/206
The Saturday Morning Bible Study meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month
upstairs in the Sunday School area. This month we are looking at Jesus through the Book of
Hebrews. Our resources are from the ELCA Book of Faith initiative inviting all to “open
scripture and join the conversation” to help us become more fluent in the language of our faith.
Long-term study commitments are not necessary; no prep is needed; no homework is assigned.
It’s simply conversation. Join us as your schedule allows. Bring your favorite Bible and your
own experiences as we enjoy conversation over our morning coffee. For additional information,
contact Tammie at [email protected] or 654-3256.
Sunday's Com'n
Each Wednesday morning at 8:30 am, gather with Pastor Tom in the Gathering Space to
reflect on the scripture reading for the coming Sunday. No experience necessary. We read the
text and share how it makes us feel and the thoughts and questions it generates. It's all good!

These days it seems there is no shortage of things to
make us anxious. Anxiety is the displeasing feeling of fear,
concern and dread and is considered to be a normal
reaction to a stressor. Certain amounts of anxiety empower
us to deal with the stressor constructively. Too much
anxiety, though, may result in destructive behavior.
Signs of anxiety include being short tempered and overly
critical of yourself or others, excessive worrying about one’s
future or the future of one’s children, a sense of life being
out of control. Is there anyone who cares, who can help?
@TRUST
This Lenten season we revitalize our trust in God as we hear five stories from the Bible of
women and men who experienced anxious times yet placed their trust in God. These stories
will be presented with the help of our youth Alive! drama group beginning Wednesday,
February 29th at 7:15 pm.
Shouldn’t We Eat First?
Beginning on February 29th, a simple soup supper will be served at 6:00 pm before each of
the five 7:15 Lenten services. These services will feature the beautiful liturgy of the Holden
Evening Prayer Service.
Let’s Talk @Trust
During Lent, those interested in meeting in small groups to share feelings of anxiety and
strengthen one another with personal stories of trust are invited to indicate that interest
either on the green sheet in the worship bulletin or on the sign up sheet in the Gathering
Space. Small groups may meet in homes, at church or coffee shops as we seek to care for one
another and build trust. A conversation guide will be provided.
Invite a friend. You can TRUST us to be welcoming!
Small groups are encouraged to reflect on God’s trust and do a tangible service project in
our community. Ideas for service events will be posted in the Gathering Space.
Facts @Trust
Can I just start a small group with some friends I know?
Absolutely. Stop by the office or ask JoAnn to email you Pastor Tom’s small group discussion
guide.
I don’t know anyone at church but I’d like to meet to talk with someone. What do I do?
Indicate your interest to participate in a small group by emailing JoAnn, noting that on the
green sheet, putting your name on the sign up sheet in the Gathering Space, or calling Pastor
Tom to arrange a time to meet with him.
Does a person have to be a member of Trinity to participate in the
small groups?
No-all are welcome.
Why is Lent forty days long?
According to the canonical gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus
spent forty days fasting in the desert before the beginning of his public
ministry. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a forty day liturgical
period of prayer and fasting for us as we remember all that Jesus has
done for us. As a practice to strengthen one’s faith, persons often give up
a favorite food or activity during Lent as a tool to meditate on God’s love
shown through Jesus Christ.
Life Is All About Trust
Let me hear of your
steadfast love in the
morning, for in you I
put my trust. Teach me
the way I should go, for
to you I lift up my soul.
Psalm 143:8

CUSH Corner
CUSH (Congregations United to Serve
Humanity) is about people of faith coming
together to act powerfully to live out our deepest
values and to bring racial and economic justice
to Kenosha and Wisconsin. CUSH breaks down
barriers of race, economics and religion to build
a community of hope.
CUSH has a new issue: Reducing the prison
population. The campaign's goal is to change the
warehousing of non-violent offenders and save
the state millions of dollars. Incarceration is
expensive. Treatment instead of prison for non-
violent offenders is a just option. The current
system disproportionately punishes
people of color, people who are poor
and people with mental illness and
substance abuse health issues.
For more information on the 11x15 campaign
go to: http://prayforjusticeinwi.org/
The CUSH committee/Social Justice ministry
team meets on the second Sunday of the month
at 9:10 am in the library. Please join us.
Cans for CUSH may be dropped off the back
hall entrance to the church on the first Sunday
of each month. Thank you for supporting CUSH.
Care for Creation
Kenosha Green Congregations is calling all who care about
creation to learn about a new interfaith initiative for faithful
stewardship of the earth.
Local congregations are forming an ecumenical association to encourage
people of faith to increase awareness of the environment and support each other in
nurturing our earth.
Please join us for our informational gathering on Saturday, March 31st, from 8:30 to
10:00 am, at St. Paul’s Lutheran, 8760 37th Ave (on 39th Ave across from Jeffrey School).
Representatives from Racine Green Congregations will join us to share their experiences
and help us see various directions that we in Kenosha might choose to pursue.
For more information on Kenosha Green Congregations call Polly Waara at 694-8736.
To learn more about Racine Green Congregations and to find a link on our budding
Kenosha Green Congregations, browse their web site at
http://www.racinegreencongregations.org/.
Dru Spitzer will be attending this meeting and would love to have other members of
Trinity join her. It is exciting to be on the ground floor of such an important initiative.
You can talk to Dru any Sunday morning, call her at 859-2032, or email her at
[email protected] to find out more.
Simply Giving Option
“Simply Giving” (endorsed by Thrivent Financial Bank) has arrived at Trinity! Rather
than providing your monetary gifts through check or cash weekly, semi-monthly, or
monthly, you may sign up with Simply Giving and have your donation electronically
transferred from your checking or savings account with the frequency you desire. The cost
to the church is an initial fee of $0.50 to establish your transaction account, then $0.20 per
transaction thereafter. There is no cost to the giver. If you are interested in establishing a
"Simply Giving" account, the authorization forms are available on the table outside of the
Gathering Space. Once you have completed the form, please place it in a sealed envelope.
The sealed envelope may be placed in the offering plate, mailed/turned into the church
office, or handed directly to Ken Larson. If you have any questions, please contact Rick
Madison at (262) 694-9524 or [email protected].
