Executive Secretary Report200 Petitions?

I have a new program that is in conjunction with the Supreme Council’s 200th Anniversary. My only goal on this program is to have at least 200 petitions during this celebration period. Impossible you say? I already have a dozen on my desk. I will let you in on the secret.

First of all they know that it is an honor to join the Scottish Rite and be a proud 32nd degree Mason. Especially in the Valley of Toledo. We’re not just 2 reunions a year any more. Not only is the fellowship great but there are so many events for the members now. Take a look at the calendar on the back page. You can see that we have three new events this year along with our traditional programs that a lot of the members enjoy.

Secondly, in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the Supreme Council, NMJ, all new candidates can become members for only $50.00! Plus the candidates will receive a unique “200th Anniversary” pocket jewel. It is gorgeous and will also be available to all members for $25.00. As of this writing we are working on a special pocket jewel for first line signers only. Unlike the Supreme Council’s jewel, you can only earn one when you are top line signer on a petition during this celebratory period. Be one of the first to wear this jewel in the Valley.

There are over 7,000 Masons in our area that are still eligible to become a Scottish Rite Mason. It shouldn’t be hard to get your petition filled. Call the office and we will mail you one or go on line (www.toledoaasr.com) and print one (or more) off.

I am holding a membership meeting and kickoff celebration on Saturday, April 14th at Phoenix Lodge #123 in Perrysburg, Ohio. I will start off with a FREE breakfast at 9:00a.m. The KSA have offered to prepare this meal. I will then inform you of the changes going on in the Valley in detail. I should be able to answer any questions at that time. We want to also honor our newest 50, 60 and 65 years longevity members with their recognition pin. All I ask is that you please use the form on Page 9 to make reservations. We want to make sure we have enough food for all.

Please join me in my excitement about this upcoming year. Together we can make this a successful celebration.

Mike

Most of us would probably have a similar answer to the above question – something ranging from “what are you talking about” to “I wasn’t even a gleam in my Daddy’s eye.” The Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite NMJ, however, can’t share the same cliché lines with the rest of us. We know exactly what they’re talking about; they’re celebrating their 200th birthday!

That’s right, 2013 will mark 200 years since the founding of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, and we all think that important milestone is something to celebrate! As a result, the AASR-NMJ and the Valley of Toledo are teaming up to commemorate this special year. The motto for the Valley of Toledo will be “200 for the 200th,” and signifies the goal of 200 new candidates in the Valley of Toledo before the conclusion of the year 2013.

There will be a number of initiatives to celebrate the occasion, and you’ll want to keep your eyes and ears alert to all the special happenings. To start, some of the cherished memories are the striking medallion and badge which are shown here. These will be presented as membership incentives during the year. Additionally, for joining during this period of time, the Valley is offering membership at the reduced application fee of $50.00. That’s right – this $75.00 savings will be

offered to each and every candidate who petitions the Valley now through the year 2013. Obviously there’s no better time to join than right now!

To find out more, please put Saturday April 14th at 9:00am on your calendar. This will be a kickoff celebration for the bicentennial events, and will occur at the Phoenix Masonic Lodge building in Perrysburg. The Valley of Toledo will provide a free breakfast for everyone who attends, and it will be a great morning. In addition to the Bicentennial Kickoff information, we will provide updated details regarding our new facility, and will present service awards for longevity. Please don’t miss this special event. To register for the breakfast please use the form found in this issue of the Tidings, so we’re sure to have enough food for everyone.

So to answer the question about where you were 200 years ago, there might not be a specific answer. There is one thing that we can say with certainty however, which is that if we plan to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Scottish Rite, the time is NOW! Don’t wait for the 300th; you may not be in town to celebrate that occasion with all your Brethren.

Where were you 200 years ago?

Knights of the Blade and GrassIt won’t be long and we will be back out into the fields and cutting grass once again at the Stranahan Complex property. I have a number of you on a list from last year and I hope to have you volunteer again this year. If you would like to enjoy the outdoors and the sun for roughly 2 ½ hours a cutting, please call me at the office (419-893-2942). You will not have to be there every time. I generally take the first 5 guys to run three tractors, a push mower and the trimmer. I want to thank the following for helping last year. I hope that I didn’t miss anyone:

Crossing the Bar:

Sunset and evening star. And one clear call for me!

And may there be no moaning of the bar. When I put out to sea.But such a tide as moving seems asleep. Too full for sound and foam.

When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell. And after that the dark.

And may there be no sadness of farewell. When I embark. For though from out our bourne of Time and Place

The flood may bear me far.I hope to see my Pilot face to face

When I have crost the bar.Tennyson

Children's Dyslexia Center

To keep our local center operating, it requires approximately $68,000 per year – a number which continues to escalate. We must thank those who have generously donated in the past, as well as those who continue to do so. It is through your generosity that we continue to be the area’s leader in helping children overcome dyslexia. Additionally, we thank those of you who participate in the Kroger Community Care program. Your involvement in this program has helped our center to access a small amount of charitable funding from that source as well.

Despite these acts of generosity however, we still need your help. Whether you choose to donate through the Kroger promotion or through outright donations, we sincerely solicit your financial assistance. If every member of the Valley would give just $10.00 more than they gave last year, or $10.00 if they’ve never given before, we’d be able to continue to help those in our community who need it.

Please consider helping us make the dream of reading a reality for these students. No student should be kept from learning, when the help of our center would insure them a brighter future. Thanks for your help to improve the outlook for these students, and thereby better improve the future for us all in the process. So DID YOU KNOW that every dollar you give will help us to keep the center operating effectively not only for our 40 current students, but for many more to follow as well.

that the Dyslexia Center is currently helping 40 students?

that there currently are 14 students on the waiting list?

that the community recognizes our center as the only place in the area to help those with dyslexia?that the Masonic Dyslexia Centers received recognition in an article in the December issue of Parent Magazine?that teachers, principals and psychologists are recommending the Dyslexia Center for students who need help?that this is only the beginning of the story?
