Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration

O Come Let Us Adore Him!

O Holy Night, the Child Jesus is here at last! He is here, present body, blood, soul and divinity in the Holy Eucharist. Come adore him, as the shepherds did on that cold and glorious night 2000 years ago. With our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, let us gaze in tender wonder at the Precious Child who is Almighty God Himself. Already have a scheduled Holy Hour? Consider adding another in 2019. Invite friends and family to sign up for an Hour to enjoy the blessings of the Christ Child. Call (657) 888-4631 or write to [email protected].

January 1st is The Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God We hope you had a blessed and joyous Christmas with your family and loved ones. As we now look to the New Year let us make a resolution to Jesus through His mother Mary. What are you going to do for Jesus this New Year? We could make visits to the Blessed Sacrament, say your morning and night prayer, or learn a new prayer like the Guardian Angel prayer. Let us ask Our Mother Mary to help us keep these resolutions throughout this year. Enjoy your Good News & Venture “Gospel Weekly” as a family. No classes this week. Classes resume on January 7. May the love, joy, and peace of Jesus Christ fill your hearts and homes always.

Liturgy Corner

We are often asked why Catholics have such a devotion to Mary. Mary’s role in the church is unique—she is the mother of the Eucharist. She who gave flesh and blood to our Lord, Jesus, is a most powerful intercessor with her Son on our behalf. Her willingness to say yes is a model of faith for us all. Each year, on January 1, we celebrate Mary, the Holy Mother of God.

Altar Server of the Month November

Please join the Altar Server Ministry in recognizing Carline Dong as our Altar Server of the Month for November 2018. Carline has

distinguished herself through her quiet demeanor, but she is confident in her duties and responsibilities as senior server. Her abilities has been recognized by our clergy and other liturgical ministers who appreciate her dependability. Congratulations on your award, Carline and thank you for your service to St. Martin's. In addition, the ministry would like to recognize the following servers who have exemplified extraordinary appearance, reverence, attentiveness, and efficiency: Julianne Rocke, Salvador Martinez, Jacob Viveros, Andrew Nguyen, Ashley Nguyen, Steven Hsiao, Nico Nogal, and Audrey Nguyen.

Adult Confirmation 2019

Classes begin January 24 and are held on Thursday nights from 7:15 - 8:30 pm. Here are a few testimonials from some of the people in last year’s program…

‘I was confirmed in order to raise my family & I under God’s blessing. I was baptized as a baby so had no recollection of that. When I had the opportunity to be Confirmed as a young teenager, it felt forced or like it was what I was supposed to do without really knowing why I was doing it. Being Confirmed helped me to create my own personal bond with God.’ Kenneth Fraley

‘My motivation to getting Confirmed was to continue my faith and to show my kids the values of God and the Catholic Church. Being confirmed increased my faith by allowing me to share my experience with my family and God. The classes were very inspiring and made me want to learn more about my faith.’ Rex Elder

‘Not being in a High School Youth ministry program and switching parishes several times during high school, I felt I had missed out on Confirmation now that I was in my 20’s despite remaining very active in my faith. At St. Martin’s, I instantly felt welcomed and at home in a healthy thriving community and was pleased to find an Adult Confirmation program with seasoned and passionate leadership. It was an opportunity to grow in my faith with other like-minded active Catholics looking to receive this important sacrament.’ Anonymous

‘I wanted to be confirmed to make my connection and relationship with God even stronger than it was before. Getting confirmed increased my faith and closeness with God so that I am now fully devoted to him. It is nice to know he is always watching over me, which give me hope when I face problems or struggles.’ Catherine Baltes

Faith Formation

Returning Catholics Invited to Come Home If you’ve been away from the Catholic Church for awhile, has the joy of the Christmas season inspired you to recall the richness and beauty of the Catholic faith you’ve missed? Were you, a friend or family member baptized Catholic but now feel separated from the Church? Have you missed being part of a Catholic faith community? We’ve missed you, too. The “Coming Home” ministry is designed to help you or your friend(s) feel at home in the Catholic Church once again, to answer questions, and to explain changes in the church that may have taken place while you were away. The series of six “Coming Home” sessions will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. on consecutive Wednesday evenings, January 2 through Feb. 6, 2019, in the Parish Center. No matter how long you’ve been away, and no matter what the reason, we invite you to renew your relationship with the Catholic Church. A team of parishioners, many themselves Catholics who returned after a long absence, supported by staff and clergy, plan a special program to help you regain direction in your faith, help you with sacramental preparation, or just provide support for you on your journey. To register or for further information, contact Maureen Williams at 714 679-4535 or the church office at 714-970-2771, or email [email protected].

Pro-Life Help Line

www.optionline.org or 800-712-HELP (4357) Option Line is a 24/7 call center connecting women and men to pro-life medical clinics and pregnancy help centers across the United States and Canada.

January is Human Traffic Awareness Month Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Trafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked in coun-tries around the world, including the United States. It is estimated that hu-man trafficking generates many bil-lions of dollars of profit per year, sec-ond only to drug trafficking as the most profitable form of transnational crime. It is our job as a parish community to acknowledge, recognize and stand together in solidarity to do every-thing in our power to help eradicate this human travesty. After all masses on January 5-6, the Respect Life Committee will be hand-ing out information along with lapel ribbons for everyone to wear daily during the entire month of January to oppose Human Trafficking and recog-nize that it is a violation of the rights of our children and families. There will also be a table out in front of the Church for display of Fair Trade items to view and be informed about. Please stop by to learn more.

Community Life iGen: Understanding the Smartphone Generation and Finding a Balance with Technology The iGen is the first generation to spend their entire childhood in the age of the smartphone, and this fact alone seems to have an important impact on who they are and how they relate to the world. More than previous generations, they are obsessed with safety, focused on tolerance, and have no patience for inequality. They are also "on the brink of the worst mental health crisis in decades.” In this lively talk on January 13 and 14 at St. Juliana Parish Center in Fullerton, we will explore the idea that iGen may be growing up more slowly than previous generations. Also, learn what practical tools may be utilized to best meet the developmental needs of children and encourage their independence and autonomy. Parents/Adults are welcome at any or all – but children under 9th grade should not attend as subject matter is not appropriate for younger teens/children.
