Pedigree Limousin Cows and Calves to 6,200gns, Pedigree
British Blue Heifers to 7,500gns
Ridge Dean Blues sell to 7500gns high The virtual dispersal of the Ridge Dean herd of British Blues for Michelle Wilde at Newark on Saturday saw
a top call of 7500gns and demand strong throughout the sale.
Featuring some the finest British Blue genetics to come to the market in a number of years the sale drew
interest from across the UK, with cattle sold to buyers across the UK, including animals heading to Orkney
and Wales.
Commenting on the sale auctioneer Paul Gentry said it was an event likely to never be repeated. “Michelle
Wilde’s 34 year dedication to the Blue breed and to breeding for natural calving and locomotion is
something few breeders will ever rival.
“Demand for Ridge Dean Blues has been exceptional throughout the herd’s history and the demand seen
for this sale was a mark of the esteem in which both Michelle and her cattle are held by Blue breeders
everywhere.”
Leading the trade was the September 2013 born Ridge Dean Izabella, a Boothlow Dynamo daughter out of
Ridge Dean Della, an Empire D’Ochain daughter. She sold to C B Parsons, Sutton-On-Trent,
Nottinghamshire.
Ridge Dean Izabella sold at 7500gns
www.newarklivestocksales.com
Next best after that were a pair which sold at 6000gns, with the first of these being the herd’s noted brood
cow Ridge Dean Della, herself the dam of the 7500gns Izabella.
This Empire daughter is out of Ridge Dean Valentine, a Radar Van Terbeck daughter and is due in
November to Cromwell Fendt. This one sold to Tim and Kitty Bodily, Abergavenny.
Ridge Dean Della
The second lot to take a 6000gns call was Ridge Dean Groovey, a 2011-born Boherard Cantona daughter
out of Ridge Dean Delight, a Ballygrange Alex daughter. She was another high priced animal to head home
with Messrs Parsons, Sutton-On-Trent.
Then trading at 5700gns was her dam, Ridge Dean Delight. This Ballygrange Alex daughter is out of
Valentine and sold with a heifer calf at foot by Dictator and back in calf to the same sire again. Taking this
one were Swindells Livestock, Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire.
Following on at 5000gns was the young bull calf Ridge Dean Justino. This March-born son of Boothlow
Dynamo is out of Ridge Dean Fuchsia, a Ballygrange Alex daughter and sold to K Allen, Cattleton,
Derbyshire.
Then taking the first of four 4500gns calls was Ridge Dean Florence 2, a Blue Stone Union Jack daughter
out of Ridge Dean Ursula, a Savant De Pierrecome daughter. She found a new home with Brian Joseph,
Church Stretton, Shropshire.
Ridge Dean Gem, an Empire D’Ochain daughter out of Ridge Dean Valentine, then traded at the same mon-
ey when bought by Ian Rowe, Chesterfield.
Next at this level was Cromwell Icandy, a Cromwell Fendt daughter out of Hematite D’Ozo, a Fausto Et Du
Peroy daughter. Originally bred by Adam Neachell this one was the choice of Messrs Brown, Pickering.
And the very next lot, Ridge Dean Jasmine, then completed the quartet at this level when selling to Brian
www.newarklivestocksales.com
Then selling at 4200gns was Ridge Dean Georgia May, a Bringlee Blackstar daughter out of Ridge Dean
Bonnie, a Dafydd D’Ochain daughter. She was bought by M and J Ward, Harwood Dale, Scarborough.
Close behind that and taking a bid of 4000gns was Ridge Dean Jaeger, a Kilowatt daughter out of Della, with
this one selling to Mary Brown.
Also at this money was Ridge Dean Jerrel, a full brother to Jaegar, with this one selling to Messrs Foulbister,
Orkney.
Making the next best price of 3600gns was Ridge Dean Giggles, a February 2011-born Ridge Dean Dictator
daughter out of Ridge Dean Cocola, a Dafydd C’Ochain daughter . Sold with her Aberdeen-Angus cross
heifer calf at foot and with a carcass profitability index of +25 she went home with M and J Ward, Harwood
Dale, Scarborough.
And making 3500gns was Ridge Dean Incredible, a March 2013-born heifer by Empire D’Ochain out of
Graymar Electra, a Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur daughter. She found a new home with David and Jane Coulson,
Middle Rasen, Lincolnshire.
Speaking after the sale Michelle Wilde said the decision to stage the sale had been a hard one, but it was not
the end for the Ridge Dean herd. “I would like to thank all those who attended the sale for their support and
wish all buyers the very best of luck and enjoyment with the cattle.”
Averages; five cows £4436.25, five cows with calves £3906, 10 maiden heifers £4242, embryo calves £3402,
five recipient dams £868 (Newark Livestock Sales).

Females lead Newark Limousin day trade
It was ladies day at the Autumn Limousin Day sale at Newark on Saturday (11 October) with demand for fe-
males far outstripping that for bulls, with prices to match too.
Auctioneer Paul Gentry said lacklustre demand for bulls was a symptom of the autumn sales. “Without a doubt
it is getting ever harder to sell bulls at the autumn sales and demand for even good bulls on Saturday was ex-
ceptionally patchy despite a high quality show.”
Topping the trade at 6200gns was the 2010-born cow Millstone Fragrance from John Oakes, with this Wilodge
Vantastic daughter being out of Millstone Bonique, a Nelombo daughter. This second calver with a beef value
of +35 sold with a bull calf at foot by Rocky, Millstone Jaffa, she went to D S Townend, Malton.
Taking the day’s second best price at 4000gns was the very last lot of the sale, Pasturefields Iamtheone from
the Birch family. This Anside Flint daughter is out of Bankdale Dana, a Sarkley Volt daughter from the excep-
tional Bankdale Alice line and was knocked down to the Gascoines Group, Newark.
Then at 3500gns was Cresswell Emma from Anthony Sayer. This is a 2009-born Sympa sired cow out of the
Jockey daughter Woodhouse Sugar. She sold with a bull calf at foot, Cresswell Jacob, by Tonka to Gary
Sharp, Essex.
And making 3200gns was Calogale Hazel from Gareth Lee. This is an Ampertaine Bravo daughter out of
Goldies Visual, a Sarkley Ragtime daughter. This one sold to Messrs Woodward, Norwich.
Following that at 2800gns was the day’s female champion, Willowvale Hannah from Anthony Sayer Jnr. This
Rocky daughter is out of Woodhouse Verbina, a Nenuphar daughter and was bought by the judge from the
pre-sale show Berwyn Hughes, Lampeter.
A few lots later John Oakes sold Millstone Honey at 2600gns to C and S Creaser, Gowthorpe, N Yorkshire.
This Mas Du Clo daughter is out of Millstone Bonique the same Nelombo-sired dam as the day’s sale topper
and sold having been AI’d to Tonka.
The Broadmeadows Cannon daughter Ternvalley Glisten then followed at 2500gns. This one from Messrs
Heath is out of Rivermead Fern, an Urbain daughter and sold with a bull calf at foot by Wilodge Fantastic,
Ternvalley Jackdaniels. She was the pick of M Whitlock, Ansty, Coventry.
Close behind at 2400gns was Hollyash Gem from J and G Burrough. This 2011-born first calver is by the
homebred sire Hollyash Drummer and out of Hollyash Claret, a Junior daughter. She sold with her Carmorn
Dauphin-sired heifer calf, Hollyash Jane, at foot and headed home with S and J Holder, Salby.
www.newarklivestocksales.com
At the same money Messrs Heath then sold Ternvalley Glitter, a Broadmeadows Cannon daughter with a
Wilodge Fantastic calf at foot, Ternvalley Jager. Glitter is out of the Urbain daughter Rivermead Fern and
sold to Keith Wallbank, Awsworth, Nottinghamshire.
Selling at the same price again was Mayfields Beatrix from Andrew Clark. This Heathmount Ustinov
daughter is out of Chatsworth Trixy, a Hartside Nelson daughter and sold to Keith Wallbank, Awsworth.
Bulls
Demand for bulls was more restrained, with buyers few and far between despite the realistic expectations of
vendors.
Leading the prices was a 3000gns call for senior bull Netherhall Chancer from Doug Mash. This 2007-born
son of Rocky is out of a Lasso daughter and sold to Messrs Holling, Alfreton, Derbyshire.
Following that at 2800gns was Frogmore Icarus from Chris White. This Rainbow Simon son is out of
Rombalds Elsie, a Sympa daughter. He sold to Messrs White, Brewood, Staffordshire.
Then making 2700gns was Coachhouse Izzard from Messrs Heald. Sired by the homebred Coachhouse
Eebygum and out of Coachhouse Essential, a Bailea Ulsterman dam. He was knocked down to Messrs
Atkinson, Boston, Lincolnshire.
A brace then sold at 2600gns, with the first of these being Westside Black Ike from S and G A Potter. Sired
by the leading black sire Tamarvalley Boscastle he is out of Westside Empress, an Imperial daughter and
was the choice of R J Mawby, Rugby.
The other at this level was Helen Burton’s Rempstone Invincible. Sired by the leading sire Goldies Comet
he is out of Rempstone Empress, a Ardnacrusha Uthman daughter. Selling with a beef value of +41 he
headed south to Headcorn, Kent, with John Cox.
And making 2500gns was Goldies Herdsman from S and G A Potter, with this Hartlaw Excaliber son being
out of Goldies Dalida, a Goldies Terence daughter. He sold with a beef value of +42 and went home with A
Clifton, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
Averages; 12 bulls £2432, 18 cows and calves £2336.25, one young bull £997.50, 14 in-calf heifers
£2231.25, 39 maiden heifers £1347.50 (Newark Livestock Sales).

23 Breeding Sheep & Goats
Another good turnout of sheep in the Sheep Shed today, again with something in every department. The Fat Lambs seem to have stabilised slightly roundabout the 150p/kg mark, nice to see some new customers travel from the South to sell fat lambs in Newark for the 1
st time, again going away happier
than they did on the Tuesday and amazed how similar ewes to theirs would have been £15 a head dearer today. Don’t be afraid to come and look, you will be pleasantly surprised. Again this week Store Lambs look a good trade particularly the middle to bottom end. Ewes dearer on the week, and Newark again in Top Spot – please call to discuss ALL Marketing!!

CULL COWS AND OTMS – 133 averaged 136.53p or £927.47 Again a very decent entry on offer. Today however plenty of older and colder cows straight off the grass. Trade today was very fast and certainly doesn’t reflect the drop in deadweight prices this week. Top cow today was consigned by David Sandham who sold Blues to 184.5p - £1278.59. John and Denise Davies sold Blues to 183.5p - £1486.35, Kevin Johnson sold Limousins to 170.5p - £1343.54, Tommy and Anthony Holmes sold Blues to 169.5p - £1325.49 and Limousins twice at the same money to gross £1069.55 and £1147.52. Jeremy Flint sold Blondes to 169.5p - £1249.22. Today all the better R grades or better fed cows sold from 150p with O+’s 140-148p and –O’s 128-136p. Black and whites very firm with fed cows 120-127p, steakers 106-116p and bones 70-90p. OTM clean cattle nothing like the quality of last week with Frank Page selling Limousins steers to 203.5p - £1172.16 and heifers to 202.5p - £1105.65. Tommy and Anthony Holmes sold Irish tagged Limousin heifers to 179.5p - £1491.65. AGAIN A GREAT RESULT AND MORE REQUIRED

593 PRIME SHEEP SOLD TODAY
Despite the pretty dreadful weather experienced at the start of the week, again we found a good number of lambs and again this week run after run of meat. The handier weighted lambs would look a slightly easier trade, but the heavy lambs dearer, returning an SQQ of 157.09p/kg and ALL in 155.50p/kg, for those Centres who question whether we include ALL Sheep in our averages, why not spend 5 minutes on EBLEX.org.uk, you can see every Market in the Country and compare yours to theirs?! Rather than just bang on about National Averages?! You’d be surprised!! Today Top Ten £s/head and Pence Per Kilos dominated by Vendors out of Northamptonshire x 2 and Leicestershire, passing “Other Centres” to come to Newark to be Price Makers not Takers!!!
