NEWSLETTER No. 4 22nd February 2018
Dear Parents, Friends and Students
It was fantastic to see so many families come along to the
P&F Welcome that took place last Friday. Thank you to
Jodie Capobianco, Karen Meikle and their band of willing
workers who did such a great job in organising the event
and running the night. Many of the children enjoyed the
entertainment that was coordinated by ‘Bop till you Drop’
and she certainly worked hard to ensure that the children
‘bopped’ hard. We look forward to the next community
event.
Last night the P&F held their first meeting for the year. It
is always heartening to see new people willing to be
involved in the P&F and help to build community in our
school. George Coldham, in his first report as our new
President, outlined the direction of the P&F this year with
some long term goals and plans. I would ask that you
support the P&F in whatever capacity you are able to as
they do outstanding work in our school. At last night’s
meeting they agreed to continue to provide funds for the
Year 6 camp with a very generous amount along with
supporting the Sacramental programmes that run in our
school, specifically helping to finance our retreats. I thank
the P&F for always so enthusiastically agreeing to our
requests and to our community who do so much to
support their work.
Our first assembly for the year will take place on Friday
2nd March. It will start at 9:00am and it will be held in the
undercover area. All parents and members of our
community are invited to join with us. It will be hosted by
our Year 5 class.
Information regarding our Cool Pool afternoon will be sent
home today. Our Cool Pool afternoon will be held on
Friday the 23rd March. Please note that this year we
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
have changed the venue to Bilgoman Aquatic Centre in
Darlington. Bilgoman Aquatic Centre is an outdoor pool
and we believe that this will be a better experience for our
children. Part of the information that you will receive will
be a request for parent help. Our Cool Pool event will
only be successful if we receive some support from our
parents. I understand that for many of you it is a work
day however, if you are able to spare the time to assist us
it will be appreciated.
Have a great week.

Project Compassion
First Week of Lent Janaki is a young entrepreneur from
Nepal, who has turned her life around.
Growing up in a world of poverty and
disadvantage, coupled with a forced
marriage at the age of twelve, she was
in a very vulnerable position. Even more
so when her husband died just two
years into their marriage. With the help
of a Caritas Australia supported
program she is now running her own successful sewing
business and has become an inspirational community
leader.
Please donate to Project Compassion 2018 and
empower vulnerable young people like Janaki.
YEAR 4 NEWS The children to continue to work brilliantly in class. They
have been working collaboratively during language and
maths activities. A reminder that homework at the
moment consists of reading, spelling and study ladder
activities. Children have also been reminded that they
must continue to learn and practice their times tables.
There will be no library tomorrow. In fact, for the next
three weeks, library time will be on a Tuesday.
Thank you to all who have been supporting our Project
Compassion box in the classroom. The children have
been very giving.
Next Monday we have the World of Maths visiting our
school. This is something that the children are excited
about.
In a few weeks we will be starting our STEM activity. We
need cardboard cylinders, tubes and small boxes like
tissue boxes, etc. If you have any at home, please can
you bring them into class.

YEAR 6 NEWS
The Year Six students have been very busy over the past
couple of weeks in all subjects and it has been great to
see them so engaged in all topics we are looking at this
term.
Just a reminder that if students finish a book at home or
from the library, they should be checking to see if there is
a quiz on Lexile for that book, even if it is not a Lexile
book, to help with their comprehension.
With homework, students only need to be completing Day
1 to 4 of their Mental Maths as Day 5 we are completing
in class. Students also need to remember to ask their
parents to sign their diary every Thursday night, to show
that they have completed their reading for the week.

YEAR 2 NEWS
We have continued to look at how we are special and
how we have interests that are similar and different. We
also viewed the story of Jesus and the Children and
discussed how Jesus loves us all no matter what.
Just a reminder that Spelling test books will be sent home
on Fridays for you to view and sign. It would be great if
this book could be covered with clear contact.
Please remind your child to keep their Homework
scrapbook in their homework folder ready for the next
school day. We use our spelling words most days and it is
inconvenient when the children don’t have their book to
refer to. Thank you for your support with this matter.
There is no Library tomorrow but it will be on Tuesday
next week.
The children are being very proactive during this Lenten
season by looking for the good in others at school and
trying to keep their Lenten promises. Thank you to
everyone for supporting Project Compassion. The
children love putting coins in our Project Compassion box.
Have a great weekend!

PRE-PRIMARY NEWS This week I have been testing the children on the On–
entry Assessment Program. This is a mandated
assessment which includes both literacy and numeracy. I
will keep parents up-dated on their child’s results when
they have been finalised. The children are working hard in
their literacy lessons, learning how letters join together to
make words and they have started to learn the first set of
sight words! Last week, the Pre Primary children attended
Mass on ‘Ash Wednesday’. We have been discussing
ways we can be a good friend as we all prepare for our
Lenten journey. In Week 6, our ‘Parent Helper Roster’ will
begin. This will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. Please place your name on the roster when
you are available to help out. Last week, I gave out
information on Mathletics, Reading Eggs and ‘Seesaw’.
Please let me know if you did not receive this and I will
give you another copy. Have a great week!

Tuesday.
Please remind your child to pack their
Library books in their bag the night before.
Thank you.
