NEWSLETTER No. 24 10th August 2017
Dear Parents, Friends and Students
On Wednesday morning this week Father Francis came
to our school for the Year Three Liturgy of the Word. The
theme of this was forgiveness and Father Francis
reminded the children of the importance of forgiving
people who have hurt them. The children were beautifully
behaved and are to be congratulated on their great
participation throughout the liturgy. It was wonderful to
have so many of our parents and family there for the
Liturgy and the shared morning tea afterwards.
On Wednesday night we held our school/parish
Confirmation Student and Parent Workshop. Thank you
to everyone who braved the very wet weather to attend
this important meeting and thanks to Mrs Keddie, Miss
Hibben and Mrs Thesera who ran this workshop. The
feedback has been very positive.
We are looking forward to the Year Four class assembly
in the undercover area on Friday morning this week,
where they will get the opportunity to showcase some of
their learning so far this term.
Also on Friday morning, our Year Five class will be
travelling by bus to participate in the Performing Arts
Choral section and we wish them luck with their poetry
performance.
On Tuesday next week (15th August), all classes from
Pre-Primary to Year 6 will be travelling by bus to our
parish church, St Francis of Assisi, Maida Vale. In the
Catholic church, this day is a Holy Day of Obligation
which observes the belief that God assumed the Virgin
Mary, body and soul, into heaven. We look forward to
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.

YEAR 4 NEWS
It has been a very busy week! The children have been
busily learning their lines for our assembly tomorrow. Well
done to all Year 4 children - you have worked hard and
most importantly, worked as a team. I could not be more
proud of all of you! The children need to be at school no
later than 8:35 tomorrow morning. They have been asked
to leave their school bags in their cubby and make their
way straight to the library where they will need to change.
A reminder that all children will need to change back into
their sports clothes after the assembly. I am looking
forward to seeing you tomorrow. For the parents who
cannot make it due to work commitments, I will endeavour
to place some aspects onto your child’s Seesaw profile.

Religious Education News CONFIRMATION 2017 Last evening, we held the Confirmation Parent and Student Workshop here at school. Many thanks to all those who attended on such a cold and miserable night. We had a very good level of attendance. As part of the activities, the candidates shared with their parents, why they wanted to be confirmed, and the parents identified the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in their children. Thanks also to Mrs Theseira from the Parish who ran the workshop. Next Wednesday, the students will attend their Retreat Day at the North Perth Monastery, which will be directly followed by their rehearsal in the Church from 3 to 4pm. Please continue to keep the Confirmation students in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament on 20th August at 11am.
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION Next Tuesday, 15th August, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. Mary was given the greatest honour by God, to be assumed body and soul into Heaven. The children from Pre-primary to Year 6 will be attending a Parish Mass at 9.30am to honour Mary. We warmly invite all familes to attend Mass with us.
LOST JACKET Caitlyn D in Yr 5 has lost her brand-new sports jacket. It had her name on it. Could all families please check the jackets, in case it has come to your house by mistake.
We also have 1 brand-new jacket in the office with NO NAME. Please ensure that all school clothing items are clearly labelled.

YEAR 6 NEWS The Year Six class are currently in the middle of their
Confirmation preparation. On Tuesday this week,
Father Peter Whiteley came to visit us to ask about
why we chose our saint and what we knew about the
Sacrament of Confirmation. Next week, we will have
our Confirmation Retreat on Wednesday to finalise
our preparation for Confirmation and to prepare
ourselves for the mass. Then on Sunday 20th August,
we will be celebrating our Confirmation. Please keep
the Year Six students in your prayers over the next
two weeks.

YEAR 2 NEWS Well, it is great to back! I received some lovely welcome
back cards which was most thoughtful. The children
worked hard for Miss O’Hara whilst I was away and I am
sure the children will continue to work hard!!
This week, we have been revising strategies that we can
use when adding or subtracting numbers that end in 0.
The children are keen to participate during mental maths
activities, even when the questions are tricky!
On Tuesday, a special visitor called Captain Cash, came
to talk to us about saving money for our wants and needs.
The children learnt a fun rhyme with actions which you
may want to ask your child about.
Our Liturgy will be held on Wednesday 6 September
starting at 9am in the Sacred space, in the school library.
More information will be provided closer to the date.

PRE-PRIMARY NEWS The past few weeks have been very busy in Pre-Primary
and the children have been adapting to changes in the
timetable very well! Last Tuesday we shared an incursion
with our Year 5 buddies to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Ms
Brahim, Tennessee’s nan, Mr Albert and Mr Pigram from
Aranmore College shared some very interesting
information about Aboriginal Culture. The children started
to make a wall mural using their handprints and were also
given the chance to taste damper. Thank you to everyone
who made this wonderful incursion possible! On Monday,
the children attended an incursion in the library given to
us by ‘The Commonwealth Bank’. ‘Captain Cash’ made
us aware of our ‘needs and wants’ and it appeared from
the majority that lollies fall into both groups!! On Monday
the children were given the opportunity with the Kindy
class to be part of ‘WA Rocks’. The Year 4 class
generously painted rocks for us which were hidden in our
playground. On finding the rocks, the children were able
to keep them or re-hide them if they wished to. Many
thanks to Mrs Brescasin and Year 4 for sharing their
special rocks with us. Meanwhile, in the classroom, the
children are making wonderful progress with their literacy
and numeracy skills as well as developing their problem
solving skills in STEM activities relating to ‘Fairy Tales’!
Watch this space!! Have a great week!

Earn & Learn provides an easy way for children, Parents, Relatives, Staff and Friends to help our
school receive educational resources through the program, simply by doing their shopping at
Woolworths!
Each year, Woolworths runs their Earn & Learn program, which offers shoppers the chance to
collect stickers, which they put on to an Earn & Learn sticker sheet. Sticker sheets can be collected
from the Admin Office. One sticker is given for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift
cards). Completed sticker sheets can then be dropped into the collection box outside the Admin
Office. Completed sticker sheets are then used to obtain educational resources for the school!
The Woolworths Earn & Learn program runs from Wednesday, 26 July until Tuesday, 19
September, 2017.
