NEWSLETTER No. 37 22nd November 2018
Dear Parents, Friends and Students
Congratulations to the students from Pre-primary for their
outstanding assembly last Friday. It was so great to see
the students perform so confidently and with so much
enthusiasm. Thank you to Mrs Hawley and Mrs Moore for
all their work in preparing the students for their assembly.
It is a huge task getting them ready for this and they did it
very well. Our next assembly will take place this coming
Friday. It will begin at 9:00am and it will be held in the
undercover area. Year 1 will lead this assembly.
As you would be aware, Catholic Education WA advised
schools to postpone community meetings until next year
due to a delay in budget information being sent to us from
the Commonwealth and State Governments. As such,
ours will be held in February 2019. Schools were
instructed to advise families of school fees for 2019. At
the last School Board meeting, the Board decided not to
increase tuition fees in 2019 and to increase amenities by
a very small amount. The Fees and Charges for 2019 are
part of this newsletter and also can be found on the
school website. The Board’s decision to not increase fees
was against the advice of CEWA who advised that fees
should be increased by at least 2.5%. I congratulate the
Board for taking into consideration the financial pressures
that many of our families find themselves under and to
sensibly leave the fees at their current levels.
Our end of year Thanksgiving Mass and Farewell to our
Year 6 students will take place on Thursday 6th
December. The Mass will begin at 9:15am and it will be
held in the undercover area. All families, particularly
those from Year 6, are invited to join with us on this very
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18)
special occasion. At the completion of the Mass, the
award winners from Year 6 will be announced along with
each student receiving their certificate for completing
primary school. We look forward to as many families as
possible joining us for this event.
Students will be receiving their end of year report at the
completion of this term. Parents will be able to access
their child’s reports via the parent portal from sometime
on Wednesday 5th December. The school will advise
families of this via an SMS. Any parents who have issues
with their child’s report are invited to make an
appointment to discuss this with their child’s teacher
before the end of the year.
The P&F held its last meeting for the year last
Wednesday. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all the members of the P&F for the outstanding support
that they have provided the school community this year.
The Executive of George Coldham, Michelle Steward, Joe
Rickerby and Natasha Alleway are also to be
congratulated for their leadership. The students have
benefited from the generosity of the parent group this
year through the purchase of many resources.
The students are practising enthusiastically for the
EduDance concert at the end of the school year. It will
take place on Friday 30th November, only a week away.
Please ensure that you have this date marked on your
calendars. A big thank you to the P&F who have
organised a burger for those who wish to order one.
Please send your order form to school before the closing
date.

St Vincent De Paul Christmas Hampers
On Wednesday the parish came and collected our food
donations for St Vincent De Paul. We had over 20 boxes
of food and the parish volunteers were absolutely stunned
by our generosity. Thanks, once again, to all our families
for your efforts to make Christmas better for families that
are struggling.

MUSIC NEWS
Once again 2018 has proved to be a very busy year. It has been a very successful year for MGCPS in the performing arts festival with
5 out of 5 awards. We were successful in the following performances. The Outstanding award along with the overall shield for
Christian Drama. The Outstanding award for Choral Speaking - Year 5.
The Excellence award for the musical ‘Cock A Doodle Dandy’ - Year 3 and 4.
Angus and Eli receiving a meritorious award for their piano performance. Angus and Eli also were successful in passing their AMEB piano exams. An excellent result and well done to all. A sincere thank you to the teachers for your help and cooperation.
We performed ‘Cock A Doodle Dandy’ at Midland Nursing Home last week and it was a pleasure to see the resident’s happy faces. We will once again perform this in the foyer of St John of God on the 5th December at 10.30am. All welcome.
I look forward to 2019 with some more ideas and I wish you all a very happy Christmas and an enjoyable time with your children and family.
If anyone has white or ivory wedding gowns or dresses and no longer want them I am very happy to take them off your hands.

YEAR 5 NEWS
Next Monday we are off the St Mary’s Cathedral in the
city to see where Matthew Gibney is buried and to attend
Mass. We will be spending the day reflecting on how we
will become leaders in our school in 2019, and what we
can learn from Matthew Gibney.
Last Friday, Maddy, Zavier, Olivia and Eli represented
Year Five at the inaugural “Primary Leadership Youth
Summit” at Chisholm College, along with 140 other
students, from across Perth. They were certainly a credit
to our school. As part of our leadership day on Monday
they will be sharing some of the things that they learnt
and took away from the day with the rest of the class.
