As always our children were great ambassadors for our school. Unfortunately, the annual Junior Country School’s swimming sports was cancelled last week due to the weather. Moawhango School Athletics Day: Congratulations to all our children for the effort put into this event. Placings were awarded to: 5 & 6 year old boys: 1 st place in high jump to Joshua Corbett; 7 & 8 year old girls: 2 nd place in long jump and softball throw to Atarau Finn-Wipaki; 9 & 10 year old girls: 2 nd place in high jump to Sereana Vaqiri; and 9 & 10 year old boys: 2 nd place for shot put and discus to Maeroa Finn-Wipaki; 2 nd place in long jump to Logan Ryder and 2 nd place in discus to Rory King. Taihape Country Schools Swimming Sports: Well done to our children who attended our annual country schools senior swimming sports last Thursday. It is wonderful to hear our children expressing how proud they were of themselves for the improvements they have made with their swimming such as more confident, stoke development and pace. Thank you to Mrs M for the fantastic effort you put into organising our children’s swimming lessons. Taihape Cluster Science Fair 2018: This event is organised for Term 2 this year. Our learning focus is currently related to science experimentation and how to write these up correctly. Over the next couple of weeks our children will need to create a question for investigation that must relate to a topic of interest and be relevant to their own experiences. Reminders: Friday Heat-up: As usual, the school pie warmer is available on a Friday for our children to bring a heat up from home. School Lunches: Now that our children are back at school and the weather is warmer, they will be spending a lot more time outdoors using more energy and needing lots of fuel – snacks and a hearty lunch. Could parents please ensure lunch boxes have enough in them to carry our children through the day. Sun-smart Term 1: Now that the summer weather is here, all children need to have a sunhat at school to wear during breaks, preferably brimmed. Also sleeved t-shirts / tops are best to wear to keep the sun from burning our children’s shoulders. Reminder: No hat, No play! Mangaweka School Raumaewa Road P.O. Student Absences: If your child/ren are going to be absent from school please let us know on the day or before-hand if possible. This ensures the school is notified of absenteeism and lessens the need to

make phone calls to parents / caregivers. Thank you!

Open-door Policy: We have an open-door policy at Mangaweka School. If you have any questions,

queries or have great suggestions or ideas, do call in and let us know.

Have a great week!

Maree, Dianne & Ann

What a fabulous day it was on Saturday for ‘Mangaweka Day’– the sun was shining and we had heaps of visitors call into school to browse through our memorabilia and share a few yarns and lots of laughs as past students reminisced about their time here. I enjoyed meeting new people and hearing

their stories and learned a lot about how our school and township has changed over the years. One topic I was keen to talk to people about is the upcoming 125th Anniversary of our school which is happening next year. There was a positive vibe and some great suggestions on how we are going to celebrate this occasion. We have started compiling an email list to keep people up to date with developments. If you would like to be added to this list, or know of anyone who would, please contact Ann at the school office. It was also great to hear feedback about what a bright, happy atmosphere our school has, and how awesome the classroom lay outs are compared to ‘back in the day’, so a thank you to our teaching Staff for creating these awesome learning environments. The children recently competed in athletics at Moawhango and on Wednesday and Thursday of last week at Junior and Senior swimming sports. Out there making our school proud! Well done!! Thank you to those school families and community members who have donated goodies to Sereana’s and Rory’s Easter Hamper Lucky Draw. The prize looks amazing and it is a great start for the children’s fundraising effort to help cater for their end of year prize-giving dinner. If you are keen for a ticket or two, feel free to call into school. The children have also been discussing hosting a ‘Food Festival’ later on in the year which sounds pretty exciting!– watch this space!! We had ERO in our school for 3 days during the last fortnight and we look forward to sharing their findings when we receive their over-all report. Have a good week everybody.
