Mangaweka School & Community Newsletter From the Principal Effort Achieves Excellence Takahia te ara teitei TERM 1 WEEK 5 Monday 27th February 2017 Dear Parents Firstly, we would like to extend a warm welcome to Maia MacMillan and her family to Mangaweka School. We know you will enjoy your time here ! It’s great to finally have the sun shining and our children out in the pool practising for our up and coming rural swimming sports including being able to practice in the Taihape swimming pools with other children in their age groups. Last Wednesday we also had our first Kapa Haka session at REAP. The day was filled with learning new games and getting to know the students from the other schools. Congratulations to our children for being such great ambassadors for our school. Last Friday, we all learnt how to make plum sauce, using the plums from our neighbouring trees. You certainly have to have the time and patience to sieve all those plums. A huge thank you to Sharyll Gray for coming into school to help us with this. After our swimming lesson at Taihape pools today, we had the opportunity to participate in gumboot decoration at the Taihape Townhall. It was great to see our children creating such interesting gumboot designs that will be entered into the Taihape Gumboot Day decoration competition. Also this Thursday we have Zero Waste coming into school to teach the children about composting and litter-less lunchboxes. Homework this week relates to this as well. Moawhango Athletics: Is all organised. Transport notices will go home on Wednesday. Thank you to those parents who have offered to help out on the day. If anyone else is able to help out with the sprints on the day that would be great. Mangaweka School Raumaewa Road P.O. TERM 1 WEEK 5 Monday 27th February 2017

Dear Parents

Firstly, we would like to extend a warm welcome to Maia MacMillan and her

family to Mangaweka School. We know you will enjoy your time here !

It’s great to finally have the sun shining and our children out in the pool

practising for our up and coming rural swimming sports including being able to

practice in the Taihape swimming pools with other children in their age groups.

Last Wednesday we also had our first Kapa Haka session at REAP. The day

was filled with learning new games and getting to know the students from the

other schools. Congratulations to our children for being such great

ambassadors for our school.

Last Friday, we all learnt how to make plum sauce, using the plums from our

neighbouring trees. You certainly have to have the time and patience to sieve all

those plums. A huge thank you to Sharyll Gray for coming into school to help us

with this.

After our swimming lesson at Taihape pools today, we had the opportunity to

participate in gumboot decoration at the Taihape Townhall. It was great to see

our children creating such interesting gumboot designs that will be entered into

the Taihape Gumboot Day decoration competition. Also this Thursday we have

Zero Waste coming into school to teach the children about composting and

litter-less lunchboxes. Homework this week relates to this as well.

Moawhango Athletics: Is all organised. Transport notices will go home on

Wednesday. Thank you to those parents who have offered to help out on the day.

If anyone else is able to help out with the sprints on the day that would be great.

We are absolutely rapt to be able to present our second recipients of our ‘Mangaweka School Good Sorts’

****Bill Milham and Yvonne Forlong****

from Farmlands Real Estate, Feilding

Bill and Yvonne have very kindly offered to add our School Prospectus to the portfolios of

properties in our area that they are agents for. This is a great way to let potential buyers know about the awesome school in their midst and

we are grateful for Bill and Yvonne’s assistance.

THANK YOU both very much!

Weetbix Tryathlon: The bulk registrations have been completed. Thank you to our parents for returning these

so quickly – much appreciated. Transport for this event has been organised and the transport organisation will

be sent home closer to the event. Thank you to Sarah King and Marione Williams for their offers of help with

transport.

Principals Award: Congratulations to Alex Hoyle for receiving the first principals award for the year. Alex

gained this award for showing caring and helpfulness to others.

Reminders:

Contact List Updates: Could we please have these returned asap so we are up to date with any

changes. Thank you.

Friday Heat-up: As usual, the school pie warmer is available on a Friday for our children to bring a heat up

from home.

Sun-smart Term 1: Now that the summer weather is here, all children need to have a sunhat at school to wear

during breaks. Also sleeved t-shirts / tops are best to wear to keep the sun from burning our children’s

shoulders. Reminder: No hat, No play!

Student Absences: If your child/ren are going to be absent from school please let us know on the day or

before-hand if possible. This ensures the school is notified of absenteeism and lessens the need to make phone

calls to parents / caregivers. Thank you!

Have a great week!

Maree, Dianne & Ann

Home Help Service

Mangaweka, Ohingaiti & Rangiwahia sub branch of Plunket offer 5 hours of home help to ALL families living within

the sub branch area at the time of the birth of the baby. Ideally these hours are offered to help support fami-

lies with a newborn baby, however, they can also be used at any time until the your child turns 5 years of age.

10 Hours Home Help for Caesarean Births

Mangaweka, Ohingaiti & Rangiwahia sub branch of Plunket offer 10 hours of home help to all families within our

sub branch area where a caesarean birth has occurred. These hours are ideally for use while Mum is recovering

from her c-section. As Plunket doesn't take over from the midwives until baby is a few weeks old, anyone not

with the Taihape Midwives may be unaware that this service exists. If you have a caesarean birth, or know of

anyone within our sub branch area that has a caesarean birth, home help can be arranged by contacting our Home

Help Co-coordinator.

If you would like more information, please contact our home help co-ordinator,
