Main Tour dates: February 19 - March 05, 2014 Stimulating Sapa Extension: February 14 - 19 presents FEBRUARY 14th - 15th Night train to Lao Cai - Cancau - Bacha (B,L,D) Our 9 hour overnight train departs Hanoi at 8pm tonight for Lao Cai. Accommodation is in soft berth, 4 sleeper cabins. After breakfast, we continue by bus (2 hrs) to the market in Can Cau, where young people dress in traditional costume & visit the market in hopes of finding their future mates. It’s a fabulous intro to the area & a chance to learn about the customs of the various tribes people. Afterward, we are off to visit the Flower H’mong tribe before checking into our hotel in Bac Ha for the night. SUN, FEBRUARY 16th Bac Ha Market - Sapa (B,L,D) Bac Ha is the most colourful market in North Vietnam – and probably the only place where you will find wine made from rice, cassavas, corn, plums, apples and peaches! Thanks to our guide, we have the chance to visit with the locals and perhaps purchase a few locally made crafts. The afternoon will see us in Ban Pho, another minority community dedicated to subsistence living & shared responsibilities. Onward to Sapa, where we check in to our hotel for the night. MON, FEBRUARY 17th Sapa (B,L,D) Known as the gateway to the hill tribe villages, Sapa is a charming lakeside town that welcomes trekkers from around the world. This is a great spot for a quick massage before we head MON, FEBRUARY 17th Continued... out trekking. Following buffalo trails, we trek through some of the most spectacular scenery imagin- able visiting a total of 3 Villages, each with their own story to tell. TUE, FEBRUARY 18th Coc Ly - Ray River - Hanoi (B,L,D) Early morning departure for Coc Ly market where we watch everything from food to wine to buffalos being traded. Locals dress in everything from Multi coloured formal costumes to western style tee shirts and it makes for a lively exchange. Afterward, a boat trip along the Chay River before we head back to the train station in Lao Cai for our return trip to Hanoi. WED, FEBRUARY 19th Hanoi (D) Welcome to Hanoi! Night train to Lao Cai -

Our 9 hour overnight train

Hanoi - Ha Long Bay

After breakfast, we leave

Hanoi for 3-hour drive to

the Halong Bay, a natural

wonder with thousands of

islands rising out of the

water, creating a unique and

beautiful landscape. On

arrival, we board our

traditional junk for a

journey through the 3,000

limestone islands dotted

with caves and grottoes.

The cruise heads to Bai Tu

Long Bay passing towns &

fishing village. There is time

for exploring the Bay at a

leisurely pace: swimming,

relaxing and experiencing

the magic of falling asleep

on board in this beautiful

part of the world.

Start your day with Tai Chi

on the Sundeck and enjoy

transfer to another day boat

for Lan Ha Bay excursion.

Continue on to discover Ho

Ba Ham Islet, the most

remote point in Lan Ha Bay

and bordering the Gulf of

Tonkin OR visit the top of

Titov or Soi Sim Islet and

enjoy 360 degree views of

Halong Bay (depending on

the weather). Fresh seafood

lunch is served onboard

before returning to the

mother boat. The vessel

cruises back through the

Bay to its overnight

anchorage near Ho Dong

Tien. Happy Hour &

Vietnamese cooking demon-

Sung Sot cave (Surprise

cave), one of the highlights

of the bay. Buffet brunch is

served on board before the

vessel cruises leisurely back

to harbor. Drive back to

Hanoi and on arrival, check

into the hotel and then the

rest of the day is at leisure.

Hanoi, a city of lakes,

shaded boulevards and

verdant public parks, is the

capital of Vietnam. We

begin our exploration of

Hanoi by visiting the Ho

Chi Minh complex, the

humble “house on stilts”

and the 11th century One-

Pillar Pagoda. Afterwards

we visit the Temple of

Literature - one of the

most interesting shrines in

Hanoi. We will then head to

the downtown core and

enjoy a Cyclo ride through

the Old Quarter where the

maze of streets date back to

the 13th century. The rest of

time is free to shop and

explore on your own.

A morning visit to the

Museum of Ethnology, an

excellent museum contain-

ing many elements of the

Vietnamese heritage. Here

we also visit the fabulous

Craft Link International

Shop at the Museum. At

noon, we transfer to the

airport for flight to Danang

and then head to Hoi An.

Upon arrival, transfer to the

hotel for check in. The rest
