Today this mission continues to guide the school’s curricula and teaching

philosophy, inspiring both Ashley Hall faculty and students to engage in a

vibrant, independent, educational community.

Dear Ashley Hall Community,The 2012–2013 academic year was significant for our

Ashley Hall community. Probably the most exciting thing to happen

is we expanded our campus footprint by approximately 10 percent

with the acquisition of The Rutledge House for Global Studies at 179

Rutledge Avenue and the three city lots that this beautiful structure

sits on. Our new building will house our international students and

the main floor will be used for Upper School humanities electives and

feature a Harkness classroom and two Oxford-style classrooms. The

building will open next fall.

Bricks and mortar are important, but the primary mission of Ashley Hall is to educate women who

will be the successful leaders of the future. Our students have again distinguished themselves aca-

demically, athletically and artistically, as each individual girl strives to reach her full potential—honing

her own unique talents. As an example of how successful the girls were last year, members of the

graduating class were accepted at many of our nation’s most prestigious universities. While doing

so, they collectively amassed $3 million in scholarship offers to universities across the country. Among

the many accolades of the class of 2013, a student was awarded the prestigious Morehead-Cain

Scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Of course, the girls do not learn alone, and we are fortunate to have an energetic, dedicated faculty

who love to teach. This commitment to learning is contagious and our faculty continuously furthers its

professional growth with a robust faculty development program. Ashley Hall’s extraordinary faculty has

been tireless in formulating curriculum—creative arts and athletic programs among others—that foster

individual achievement. Under the dynamic leadership of Head of School Jill Muti, Ashley Hall has been

innovative in program development and has become a leader among independent schools in our nation.

The future looks brighter than ever for Ashley Hall due to the fact that we have developed a

critically important culture of philanthropy: The entire Ashley Hall community raised over $3 million

during 2012–2013 for our school. I thank those of you who made this possible.

In December of 2012, a campaign

to raise $4.5 million to support the growth and

development of Ashley Hall’s International

Studies Program began.

In Phase One of the campaign, Ashley

Hall’s Board of Trustees and other donors

generously gave nearly $2 million to purchase

The Rutledge House for Global Studies, a property adjacent to campus

that will provide Upper School humanities classroom space, a home

for international boarding students and their resident advisors, and

increase Ashley Hall’s total campus footprint by 10%.

Phase Two of the campaign began in July of 2013 with the goal of

raising $2.5 million to support the International Studies Program and

provide funding to allow the school to meet three critical needs:

• To create a restricted fund to maintain the property

• To support curricular initiatives within the International Studies

Program including faculty professional development and

student travel

• To renovate and repurpose the newly acquired property

into classroom and boarding facilities

In the 12 months since the campaign began, the generous donors

listed (right) have committed $2,400,000 toward our $4.5 million goal.

Supporting the renovation of The Rutledge House for Global Studies

and Ashley Hall’s International Studies Program provides a unique

opportunity for alumnae, parents and friends to continue their legacy by

shaping the future of Ashley Hall, this community and the world. Naming

Ashley Hall’s commitment to academic development in its students is stellar, however, the school’s additional focus on recognizing and developing each student’s unique strengths and characteristics—social, spiritual, physical, artistic, philanthropic, etc.—educates the whole girl and helps her find her voice and place in the world. This individual attention gives them the confidence in their moral compass to respond to challenges they face and the self awareness to lead fulfilling lives of worth. In addition, the school’s commitment to accessibility for its parents allows me to fully participate as a member of this wonderful community. The 1909 SocietyThe 1909 Society, Ashley Hall’s oldest giving society, honors donors who annually give $1,909 or more to the Loyalty Fund. The 1909 Society, founded in 1984 to mark the 75th Anniversary of Ashley Hall, is open to the community and offers special benefits. Gifts from this leadership giving group comprise approximately 70% of all dollars given to the Loyalty Fund. We thank the members of The 1909 Society for their leadership, philanthropic contributions and continued commitment to Ashley Hall.
